In this video, the speaker explains the history and meaning of the famous “Keeling curve”. This curve shows the evolution of the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, as measured every day, year after year, since 1958 at the top of the Mauna Loa volcano in Hawaï. It features seasonal variations of carbon dioxide due to plants photosynthesis and respiration, and the first significant long term rise of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere due to addition of new carbon molecules into the atmosphere as fossil fuel is burnt.
