And as I am writing this, my memory pulled up some commercial of Steven Seagal in the 90's for a local Philippine rum/whiskey where he said the tag line, "I found gold in the Philippines." It could be that back in those days, it was already a rumor that there is really gold in my country. And religious leaders and their ally corrupt politicians and businessmen have vested interest on those items. Maybe that's the reason why the late President Marcos kept it for safekeeping for the welfare of Filipinos in the near future. And here we are living/working overseas to seek "greener pastures," but little did we know that the greenest pasture in the world lies beneath my country.
I also saw some comments here that Philippines was the Biblical Ophir. I will give it the benefit of the doubt, since Spaniard changed the name of the Philippines in honor of King Philip II of Spain that time.
