  • GERMANY: "abandons the basis of the coalition" - FDP and SPD argue about debt brake
In an interview with WELT, Frank Schäffler (FDP), a member of the budget committee, criticizes the demands from large parts of the SPD for a relaxation or even abolition of the debt brake. He criticizes SPD leader Saskia Esken in particular, saying that she calls for the debt brake to be scrapped on a daily basis and is thus abandoning the basis of the coalition.
Schäffler also describes the citizen's allowance reform as a mistake and calls for more flexibility in labor law in the debate about a four-day week or a six-day week.
