    Space brother's the most inspiring and motivating and realistic anime ever.
    People complain bout the number of eposiodes but the best part about this show is it's looong. 99ep long.
    I took 2months to watch it. Watching 1-2ep a day and was constantly driven to work even harder

    I love the first two openings of the show. Also a nice side fact related more to the song than the animation. The mangaka behind Space Brothers is a huge fan of the band UNICORN, and he specifically requested that they will perform the opening song. This is also the first time the band has ever performed an anime song.
    Oh and Eureka is just an amazing song.

    • @theepicgamingregiment1264
      @theepicgamingregiment1264 3 года назад +2

      Ah, so this is why Unicorn's MV of Feel so Moon was so invested! They used the special-edition manga heavily on the MV and the author went to town drawing the whole band. You can even stretch it a bit and say that Muta and Hibito's hairstyles are kind of like the vocalist Tamio Okuda's.
      Also, apologies for necroing this comment, I'm just amazed at learning of this tidbit 😅

    My favorite thing about the show was it's very beginning. I was laughing so hard when they brought in the infamous World Cup headbutt only to be minutes later rolling on the floor after Mutta does the same thing to his boss while yelling "Zidane!".

    Fantastic analysis as usual! Real glad to see Space Brothers get some love, despite it's length it really deserves it. Space Brothers is one of those shows that's incredibly easy to watch no matter your mood and enjoy. I do hope it gets another season, as the manga seems like it may be nearing a conclusion and there's a pretty decent chunk of material now (as the end of the series was only announced as a 'hiatus' due to catching up with the manga IIRC.)

    really loved Space Brothers, though it's hard to call it a great anime in it's entirety considering how the story pitters out in the latter third. That said it really did capture that child like sense of wonder I had about space as a kid. I especially love the way the time line and story structure was specifically set to target the adult/young adult viewers. The first part mostly focuses on the past, their dreams as children and thus invoking some nostalgia in us. The middle section focuses more on the current, then the last section focuses on the future. I feel like the show was really just one big subliminal recruiting ad for JAXA and NASDA.

    I must admit the tribute OP to Jules Verne and George Méliès is my favorite, the OP with Merengue's "Crater" is my favorite musically, but the first OP with Unicorn's "Feel So Moon" and the second OP with Sukima Switch are the only two that have consistently made me cry.
    To make me feel good about going to space. To make me feel that love of wonder. Even now I actually had to pause a couple times cause I remembered how it felt the first time I watched the first OP.
    What I'm saying is, I love your analysis of these and I absolutely can't wait to see the other six covered. ^-^

    • @mothersbasement
      @mothersbasement  8 лет назад +10

      +Syrahl696 that's a tough comparison. Both shows are so good! Space brothers is more contemporary, but I think the core hook of Planetes is a bit more immediately appealing.

    As a spaceflight nerd and aerospace engineer I'll confirm that Space Brothers is not just a really good show (which it is) but also probably one of the most realistic media representations of spaceflight - while it's set in the near future and thus technically science fiction it's realism is easily on par with historical dramas, actually while it's not perfect I would rank it above Apollo 13 or First Man in terms of realism (and perhaps also general storytelling though other people around here are more qualified to judge that part)

    So I just started watching Space Brothers and I’m only on episode 4 but if Mutta doesn’t live his dream I don’t know what I’d do😭😭. It reminds me of Bakuman with the fact that they had big dreams and the show is all about them working towards it. I adored Bakuman too so I hope I love this as well.

    I discovered Space Brothers last year and finally decided to start on it this year.
    I won't lie, I struggled a bit through the first arc. The exams initially piqued my interest but didn't really hook me. I would say the third sealed box exam is what really got me into it. I just got to the end of that part and it's some of the best slice of life I've ever seen (and I've barely even read or watched anything else in the last 2-3 years or so).
    Eureka instantly became one of my favourite OP songs ever and instantly went on my general playlist as well lol.

    4:50 anyone else notice how the surface their walking on look like the surface of the moon which could represent how close each of them are to their goal. Like Hibito is so close he practically walking on it and Mutta is not there just yet but is at the threshold of his journey (symbolized by both how close he is to the screen that Hibito and how most of the texture behind him is white)

    I always look forward to these! Haha, you do great work, I remember when Woolie introduced your channel to me and you only had one video! It has been growing and growing, My friends are always like:" Why are you so obsessed with openings?" and though it was a small interest in animation from long ago your videos gave form to an obsession haha.
    Also since this is A-1 does Digi also hate Space Brothers? I'd love to see videos on what openings do wrong. And I once thought Blind dissections would have been interesting such as watching an op, deciphering what certain imagery might mean before the series ends and then coming back afterwards to confirm and clarify things, though it may not be as interesting the more I think about it as how you do them already is great.

    Your video made my stop and have a second glance at this series .. I wanted to thank you for the good recommendation.
    I marathon the hole show it in far less time then I take to watch it proper I was disappointed it didn't continue with the story so I'm on to the manga to see what happens ..
    I don't know why I avoided this show before I saw it around a few times but I assumed it be a dumb space comedy so I didn't even give it a second glance. But I was so very wrong Most if not all the characters have main character potential witch is rare to see even out of anime, everyone's had there own reason to be there and grow and struggle.. and the slower pacing in some parts really aloud you to get to know all the characters, so when a old character returns it has much more significance and meaning. and when someone gets hurt you fell it with them. It was a roller coaster of emotion I would have never seen on my own.

    I picked up the show since you recommended it so much, and I love it, but I'd like to point out two things about the OP that I think you missed. In the first OP, the letters that appear to be on fire actually represent stages of a rocket being dropped (they appear to be on fire because of the exhaust from the stage above it). In OP 2, the letters are actually the parachutes being deployed from four different landing pods. I'm an aerospace engineering major so it's not like this is common knowledge, just thought I'd put that in there. Thanks!
