It’s so sad that the killers are celebrated and given so much attention, and the families are constantly traumatised and the victims aren’t remembered.

I think if someone i knew died because of a killer, i would be even more angry if any of these serial killer documentaries tried to focus on them and give them attention. Like they're making them famous for the worst thing that ever happened to them. I wouldn't want complete strangers talking about me and knowing me as "that poor person who got raped and murdered by a freak" and have them knowing all the details of my worst moments. This is why i hate most true crime in general.

Tbh Evan Peters kinda deserves to be roped in with it. He accepted the role and decided to stick with it even when the families out the victims said that they didn't want this show to be produced. Also the producers of the show KNEW what they were doing when they cast a conventionally attractive man to be a cold blooded killer. This show should've NEVER been made.

Also I live in SE Wisconsin and kids were talking about the documentary when it came out and asked my teacher if she was going to watch it.. she then proceeded to say that one of her friend's brothers was one of the victims and it just showed how real of a thing it was but the kids just continued to talk about it in front of her and it was so disturbing and disrespectful. Also turns out one of my other neighbors knew the landlord of the apartment he lived in and on time met him because he was sent to give him an eviction notice. The way people have been reacting to this new series is exactly the reason why shit like this shouldn't be made in the first place. Yes, it's important to keep the public aware of atrocities like these but how many more times do we need to see serial killers Ted Bundy and Jeffrey Dahmer on the screen again, especially since the victims and their families have long been forgotten in these "adaptations". I used to be someone who enjoyed consuming true crime content, for the informative aspect, but the exploitation is gross. I support it if those related to the victim have approved it because it's an efficient way to get exposure, especially for those forgotten by society [MMIW for example]. A lot of the time, though, that's not the case and instead, they give these killers the attention they always craved and it's treated more like a story than a real-life event. Like I've seen people on Tik Tok brag about how they didn't flinch at the gore/that it needed more, people lack empathy so much it's insane.

I totally agree. It’s nkt about “awareness” anymore it’s just people’s idea of entertainment based on shock factor. Like with Jeffery everyone’s like “oh he was misunderstood and blah blah blah” and i almost fell into this mindset, but I heard about the actual victims and their families and I think that’s what’s important. Yeah, Jeffery dahmer probably has mental health issues but making a show about him isn’t helping anyone. They need to make something for the victims. A show or something that allows them to tell their family members stories or how they were let down and discriminated by police.

While watching the Dahmer series on Netflix I was conflicted. Evan Peters is so attractive but the things Dahmer did were so horrible. I think these young girls are confusing the feelings they get when they see Evan and thinking they are in love with Dahmer. Idk. I live in Wisconsin and now everyone is saying this is our way of getting on the map. I do not want the state I live in to be known just for a horrible murderer. My mom grew up with and knew the family of that 14 year old boy. My aunts friend lived next door to him and he talked to her. It's fucking crazy. Her favorite anecdotes to share for entertainment, are of the ugliest things that a person can do to another person or animal. I was sexually assaulted a lot while I was growing up. My older sister sexually assaulted me when I was six years old. I told my mother about it as soon as I was able to get away from my sister. When I told my mother what had just happened, she laughed and went back to her cooking. That's when I realized that my sister could do anything that she wanted to me and no one would stop her. When I brought it up, years later, she said that she didn't know that it would bother me. She enjoys hurting people, but she has a limited understanding of what actions will hurt people. Also, I was in the care of a stranger who I didn't know, when I was very little. The way that he handled me, felt a lot like a serial killer. When he was hurting me, it was with the same level dis passion of a person using a foot stool for pleasure. When I seek knowledge of why serial killers kill people the way that they, I am trying to understand what happened to me in the hands of that man and I am trying to understand my mother
    better.
For most of the people who thirsting for serial killers....if they were ever handled by a psychopathic predator, is not glamorous. It is creepy and terrifying. I had a husband who had similar flaws and would have casually killed me under particular circumstances and he would have seen it as a way to express his deep devotion to me. Packing my bags to go to a domestic violence shelter, hoping that he wouldn't come home early, was the most terrifying memory from my adult life. He would have made it quick and kill me lovingly due to deep love and devotion and I would not have had a say in the matter. Being given a quick painless death by my loving husband, is so absolutely terrifying to me that it feels like I can't breathe. There is no romance in being killed and despise being in the presence people like that

The issue with that is that she would have to be diagnosed or had symptoms of conduct disorder when she was a child/teen and dealt with abuse when she was a child, neither of which seem to be clear from your comment. There is many disorders and mental health issues that can describe the way your mother is acting other than psychopathy. My best reccomendation is to get her to therapy and have a professional diagnose her rather than arm-chair diagnosing her with a heavily stigmatized disorder.

We have trigger warnings for surviving victims of crime with trauma but no one cares about these victims' families because it's an interesting story. I think that this is because of Evan Peters already huge fanbase of people who were attracted to him being a fictional murderer in American Horror Stories. They allowed themselves to fall in love with that fictional murderer so they are allowing themselves to be in love with this real person who ruined real lives. And to make it worse the families of the people affected by this guy are ALIVE AND WELL.
The evolution of the internet and how we have stopped seeing people on the internet as real people, makes it easier to separate the face of Dahmer from his crimes. Like when people glorify and adore school shooters. Obviously there's way more psychological reasons behind being attracted to bad people (like savior complexes and such) but idk I think people forget that the victims in these dramatizations were real.

Like, when Im on Netflix looking for a new movie to watch, and I feel like looking for representation of people like me, I don't want the "People like me" to be serial killers. By tagging serial killer related things with "LGBTQ+" all your doing is making queer folks seem terrible, let alone the fact that queer folks are most likely looking for something that makes them feel happy when searching lgbtq+ and definitely aren't looking for serial killer stories and stories of homophobia and hatred. If I wanted to read about or watch things about hate crimes I would search true crime, or homophobia, not lgbtq+.
