      Hi Juliana, do you perhaps remember (since this was 3 years ago😅) the freezer bags size you used to store the breastmilk bags in your freezer? I'm trying to organise my breastmilk a bit better...

    I have the medela bags and they don't lay as flat as this. I'll definitely try using these bags from now on. Great tip on numbering the gallon bags.

      @JulianaFrugalMinimalMom  2 года назад +1

      Thanks so much! Yeah, the medela don't lay as flat, but you can also get them pretty flat by adding a bit less milk and making sure to freeze them flat and with no air inside, i did a video tutorial of this. You can check it out here ruclips.net/video/95hX8gKBxDY/видео.html

    Great video. Our freezer just arrived (same one as yours) and I’ve started freezing. My first two bricks are all over the place because I didn’t know how much milk I would need for my twins. I started the pitcher method today so my bricks can be more consistent. The tip on getting air bubbles out will come in handy!

    Thank you, your video was to the point. I was struggling to remove the air and they are not as flat as you show in your video. Plus I don't have an extra freezer so I might have to rotate a little earlier.. Also for anyone else reading - I put the pumped milk in the fridge first and then transfer the packets to the freezer later. Anyone worrying with supply - I take fenugreek tablets, 64& more Oz of water daily, and garlic boiled in milk. This boosts your supply.

      Thanks so much! I'm glad it helped. We were also not planning on getting a freezer initially, but then I realized that my small fridge freezer would not fit all the milk I was freezing and we decided to buy a chest freezer. The smaller one was about $200 and we can always resell it, although we use it still.

    Your freezer stash and organizing skills are amazing... I wanted to ask one thing when I store in freezer there is ice all over the freezer. Do u defrost the fridge when milk is stored inside? I am too confused about how to take care to avoid milk from getting bad 😭

    • @JulianaFrugalMinimalMom
      @JulianaFrugalMinimalMom  2 года назад +1

      Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I'm so glad to be helpful. I never defrosted the freezer, but my freezer didn't have too much ice as it was brand new. Now it's starting to get a bit of ice, but it's still not too much, so I don't feel like defrosting it is warranted. If there is too much ice, I'd probably defrost it. What I did during the time we had to move and didn't have access to the freezer for some part of the day, was that I put all the milk into a bag, put a bunch of ice packs all around and then put the whole thing into the chest freezer as soon as we had access to it again.

    I love how you call them bricks 🙂. I got my stash before I head back to work next week and I am doing ok. How many times do you pump and how much do you get at each pump? Also I was told they last in the reg freezer for up to a year

    • @JulianaFrugalMinimalMom
      @JulianaFrugalMinimalMom  3 года назад +2

      I pumped about 8 times a day at the height of my pumping "career". After my milk supply was established, I started slowly dropping pumps one by one, first to 7, then 6, then 5, I believe at 4 ppd is when my supply started dropping, but by then I had two freezers full of milk that was going to last my daughter till over a year, which was the goal, so I didn't mind.

    Thanks for your information, i have 2questions,
    1)before pouring the milk into the bags, should the be washed?
    2)after gathering little amount milk in normal freege of 2days, then can i store it to be iced?

    • @LoreyR29
      @LoreyR29 4 года назад +1

      Zinat sultana these milk bags she used are already sterilized so there is no need pre wash.
      Breastmilk can be good in the lower refrigerator for up to six days and six months in the freezer compartment.
      Hope this helps 💕

      @JulianaFrugalMinimalMom  4 года назад +1

      Hi, thanks so much for your question. I never washed the bags, they do have a slightly plastic-y smell, but washing won't really do much to ameliorate that, so I never washed them.You can store them in the fridge at first, you can also just put them in the bags right after pumping and freeze them right away. When I was pumping a lot more than I knew my daughter would eat in a day, I'd just freeze what I pumped right away. I hope this helps.

    Thank you for your video. I was struggling to find information on how much freezer space I’ll need.
    Is daily pumping right from birth the way to go, and is this the reason for large freezer space?

    • @JulianaFrugalMinimalMom
      @JulianaFrugalMinimalMom  2 года назад +1

      Thank you for your comment, I'm so glad it was helpful. I did daily pumping, every 3-4 hours because my daughter had latch problems and was not getting any milk from nursing, so I started pumping and then just stuck with it. Once your milk supply is established around 3 months post partum, the amount I was able to pump was alot, so I needed alot of freezer space.

      Hi, thanks so much for a lovely comment. Thank you! I did a video on how to increase milk supply, it's posted on my channel, check out those tips. I pretty much did those for the entire time I pumped. Also pumping at least once a night definitely helped. Prolactin hormone is highest 2-3 am at night, but I mentioned other tips in that other video that also helped alot.

    Do you mix breastmilk from different pumping sessions to save on milk storage bags?

    • @JulianaFrugalMinimalMom
      @JulianaFrugalMinimalMom  4 года назад

      I definitely did mix if I had to. I always packed around 5oz-5.5 oz into those bags, and if I only had 3oz from a pump I'd top if from a different pump, for sure. hope this helps!

    How many months the milk is okay if put in freezer

    • @JulianaFrugalMinimalMom
      @JulianaFrugalMinimalMom  3 года назад

      The followed the guideline that in a regular freezer it's 3-6 months, and in a chest freezer like this one it's up to 1 year. But I always smell the milk before giving it, just to be safe.

    how many years or months can we keep the milk in freezer?

    • @JulianaFrugalMinimalMom
      @JulianaFrugalMinimalMom  4 года назад +2

      Hi, thanks for the question! A general rule of thumb is 3-6 months in a fridge freezer and 6-12 months in a deep freezer, like the one I showed. I definitely kept some milk for almost a year, but some of it started tasting little bit off, so I'd definitely try to rotate the milk, and taste everything past 6 months old (chest freezer). If it takes not that great, you can still use it as a cream, in a bath, just on skin. I hope this helps!

  • @lopez2129

    Does breast milk get old , do you pump everyday to keep more.. I never stash I long breastfed for 3 months but never froze it .

    • @JulianaFrugalMinimalMom
      @JulianaFrugalMinimalMom  4 года назад +1

      It does get old, there are guidelines for how long it stays good in freezer/fridge/counter. I froze the excess that my baby wouldn't be eating from that day, so I ended up freezing 5-7 bags every day at one point. At 7 months old I had enough to last her till at least a year, so I dropped pumps one by one and weaned slowly.

    @2pacgallar 2 года назад +1

    Hi how much did you produce a day?

    • @JulianaFrugalMinimalMom
      @JulianaFrugalMinimalMom  2 года назад +1

      Thanks so much for the question! St first I produced about 30 Oz a day, later it increased to about 90 Oz a day, possibly more. My milk supply went up alot at first and then once I started dropping pumps It wend down a bit, so it was never a static number how much I was able to pump, but at the height I was pumping like several 8oz bottles per breast per pump, so it was a lot. I hope this is helpful

    • @craearagon
      @craearagon 2 года назад

      and just know that even producing 30oz is the high end of normal better yet 90oz. Her amount of milk produced is an outlier in terms of normal amounts and definitely an huge overproducer - just to manage expectations.
      most babies need between 20-30oz a day.

    • @JulianaFrugalMinimalMom
      @JulianaFrugalMinimalMom  2 года назад +1

      It varied significantly throughout my pumping journey. At the very beginning (first 3 months) I worked very hard to build up my milk supply, I pumped every 2.5 hours during the day and every 3.5 during the night. At the end of those 3mo, I pumped anywhere between 40-60oz/day. After that the milk increased for awhile and i'd pump around 25-30oz/session, but my sessions were less frequent. At around 5-6 months i started dropping even more pumps, because I wanted to be done with pumping, but to have enough milk to last my daughter till a year. I have a video on how i increased milk supply, if want to check that one out for reference too. hope this is helpful!
