@@theresagross3523 thank you! And yes you can upload any SVG to Inkscape to edit it, or you can create an SVG on Inkscape from uploading a different file type (such as a jpeg).

Hi, I know I'm late to the party here but just wanted to say thanks for uploading this. I followed the steps and managed to replicate your results which is great! I did however have an issue when trying to change certain parts of an image to either engrave or cut. Had problems with path combining too. I added a couple of concentric circles to act as a string/ribbon loop and inkscape just wouldn't combine them into the path. Maybe it needs an update but I couldn't merge down layers either.
Hi James! I know what you mean by this… try making your circles again and go to Path - Exclusion. Then, once you do that, put those circle where you want them overlapped on your image and try the Path - Union. If that doesn’t work let me know!
Hello, New Glowforge owner here! I've been scouring RUclips to learn how to take my designs (off procreate) and convert them into svg files for cut and score options on glow forge. I'm having a really hard time figuring out how to create these vectors of single line designs on the inside of my design (for scoring) as well as having the outer lines for cutting. I understand having different colors for each makes it separate once in the glow forge app... but when I trace bit map on ink scape its all black lines, I've played with the trace bitmap settings and can't seem to get it to render in the two colors of my original file... Im commenting here bc I feel like there's something I'm missing and you folks seem like you would have an answer for me! Thanks for the videos, I've learned a lot already!
Hi there!! I will do my best to help! After doing trace bitmap, try selecting the object and go to Path - Break Apart. Then, select the pieces you want to change the stroke color on. Let me know if this doesn’t answer your question. :)

No problem! Glad I could help. The color does let you pick what settings to use on the Glowforge. It doesn’t matter what color(s) you choose, it just give the Glowforge a heads up that the different colors can operate in different ways (score, cut, engrave). It basically just sets them apart from each other so that you can choose what settings you want to put each one of them at.
hi. quick question. im very new to glow forge and inkscape. ive noticed in creating a couple of the premade files I've purchased off etsy, some can be time consuming as they are usually set to engrave. im curious if the image you used can be taken apart where part of the image is set to be engraved and the other part scored to cut down time. thank you again for all your videos they are very helpful!!
Hi Ashley! I know what you mean - some files can be more time consuming because of the engraving detail. In this particular video, yes, you can change the object to score it instead of engrave. To do this, you would need to select the object, - then go to "Object" - "Fill & Stroke", - then select the fill color as "no fill" (the X), - then go to "Stroke Paint" and select the box icon next to the X box icon and choose a stroke color of your choice (this will let your Glowforge machine read it as a score setting if that's what you want to select it as). -Then when you upload it to Glowforge, just select the parts you modified as a stroke on Inkscape as your score settings. Hopefully this helps! :) -Catherine
Hello, When you make the SVG file like this, does that mean that if there was a font on it, that the font would be embedded, flattened and couldn’t be removed it another user bought it?
Hi! If saved as an SVG, another user should be able to ungroup the file and can remove the font that way. Or they could remove it by selecting the node tool on Inkscape and deleting the nodes of the text, therefore removing the text all together.
@@85thandPine What would you suggest that I do if I sell something with text I purchased since most places to buy text want the text embedded so it can’t be removed? Is is best to sell an SVG without text?
@@redjulie1 I usually sell my files without the text so that people can add whatever they want. Plus, if you purchased a font, It may infringe on the rights to resell it even as text but it depends on the seller I think. Either way, it’s sometimes easier to just sell the file without text! :)
So do you do this same thing when you just design with fonts and not importing an image? I’m trying to figure out that process bc I saved as an svg and then glowforge won’t accept it

Hi! Just to clarify, are you trying to create a digital file in EPS format with a transparent background, or are you trying to take an existing EPS file and change the background to be transparent?

@@fathimaanna4970 Gotcha. Any blur or partial transparency will add the unwanted background when saving it as EPS. Select your object in inkscape, then watch the fill/stroke dialog box to see if there are "blurs" or "opacities" in your object(s). You can use the tab key to select the next object and the next, while you are checking for these blurs and opacities in the fill/stroke dialog box. If they are at a percentage higher than 0%, that is why the file saves with a background.

Do SVG files always save like htmls?? I import from glow forge and the html address that they save as is confusing me.
This happens because your computer wants to open the SVG file as a web browser file instead of an image because SVGs actually are web files.
