  • In this video we discuss 8-108 of the 2018 Canadian Electrical Code to determine the MINIMUM number of single pole 120V equivalent panel spaces required depending on the method of heating and required ampacity.
This video is intended as supplemental information, and is in no way intended as a substitution for a qualified electrician. Consult your local jurisdictional authority for further clarifications.
    Thanks for watching!!

    Hi Schulerruler,
Thank you for this but to let you know the code book in 2021 for this has totally changed and those numbers are no longer valid. This is the new rule for 8-108:
-Panelboards installed in single dwellings shall, at the time of the original installation, have at least
four additional spaces left for future overcurrent devices with provision for a two-pole device.
    -...

Im really appreciate your video regarding Canadian Electrical code
If you able to make a video regarding the 27th edition code book go by section by section including Ontario electrical code
    It’s much appreciated
    thanks

Plz make an updated version with the 2021 code book!

Just add 4 for future space, ensure 2 are positioned for a 2 pole breaker. The rest is based on circuit demand.

Just curious if you have any more new videos for the 2021 CEC in particular this rule change. I wrote to my professor but no one got back to me. And also do you know if anyone else making videos about the 2021 CEC. It’s so hard finding any content for Canadians. America is very accommodating to their electricians when it comes to their NEC.

With the change to 8-108, now the space demand will be determined individually with the demand. Basically figure out how many single pole, and double poles are required (ie: one two pole for the range, one two pole for dryer etc) and leave four slots open now for future additions.
They've taken the comparison with the required ampacity out of the equation basically.

Hi could you help for the electric exam?

Thanks, but how can we know the number just by reading through the code book?

    • @schulerruler
      @schulerruler  3 года назад

You need to know the required ampacity of the service to determine the number of spaces required.

@@schulerruler yes, I know that through your video, but there is no information from the code book(btw my code book is 2021) so if I didn’t search on RUclips probably I wouldn’t know

Did you ever find out where it says how many spaces are required in the 2021 code book? I'm looking for panel size based on required ampacity. I.e. 16 required spaces for up to 60amps.
