LYRICS:
"Oi fucks, let's eat 'ere, it looks niiice"
Get me the manager
"Oh dear, what seems to be the problem sir?"
First of all I was greeted with a grimace
Service with a sneer
He don’t want to be here
Second of all I was seated by the window
and the draft was a serious inconvenience
There was lipstick on my glass and it wasn’t mine
We put our order in - I can’t believe the time
This is a shambles, your cook is a heathen
Your carpet is ugly and your veg ain’t in season
My impatience spread like gravy on a tablecloth
And your head looks like it was carved out of a nut
Rory C, well, tell ‘em…
I was waiting in line for 10 whole minutes
This is unacceptable - you’re pushing me to my limits!
"Please don’t raise your voice in here sir
This is a respected establishment,
I’m sure we can sort this out quietly no?"
Oh really? Well that’s a great vase you got there,
It’d be a real shame if something happened to it…
Slipshod, kick it.
Cunt.
Seeing this live was one the most fun experiences of my life. Just everyone yelling the lyrics. Absolute extacy.
Me and my sis went to several gigs on the tour just gone and every damn time it was played the night before or the one after D':
I’ve also been lucky to experience this, was such a great laugh and atmosphere
Gotta be one of the most fun songs I've ever seen live!
Instead of conjuring up all these wacky metaphors and deep sentimental meanings, did you ever think that they just wanted to have a laugh?
Sir, I believe you may be onto something big with this investigation... It would be my honor to assist in your affairs.
Political issues? Ecological issue? NAH, MATE. BANTER!
Mate this is Enter Shikari the only band I know of to ask for a cheer for the NHS at Reading music festival
That's why I love the beautiful bastards.
Well I certainly had a laugh at this song, the video especially made it funny
The Jester has just received a little brother
*big brother
*twin brother
*Father
TheClicheName *angry delusional father haha
Kaleb Skinner
And we have a winner
I love that even in a silly song like this, Rou's lyrics are still better than a lot of other bands out there.
And that laugh at the end is so contagious.
There were 2 ways I interpreted this...
1. ES went to a restaurant and experienced extremely substandard service which incited them to voice their anger in a song.
2. This is a parody song aimed at the criticism ES receives (a theme that seems to be at the forefront of Mindsweep). Much of this from the hardcore/metal scene is down to their music being too political. This song is the epitome of non-politics, causing the viewer to question why the boys are getting so worked up over such trivialities. It puts into perspective the pettiness of the typical "angry" song narrative when juxtaposed to anxieties concerning the fate of our species.
I think you have it spot on with 2
or maybe it's about both.
I think it's just another extended food metaphor like Shikari are fond of (Jester, Feast) about the outdated class system, what with the song name being Slipshod and all.
***** Any well-known metal bands that sound like Slipshod?
This is such a nice way of thinking about, I think it's a bit of both.
This song is a banger, this has been my favorite band since 2007 and they are a true gift. All 3 of the singles from the new album (even if this is just a bonus track) are so entirely different from each other and unique. They never put the same album out twice. And you'll never see the same Enter Shikari show twice. I always look forward to seeing them live because they put on such a performance and their repertoire is so impressive compared to most bands. Never stop making music.
This better be played live. It's like a manic re-imagining of the Jester, love it
Ren & Stimpy style of animation, I love it
Just so you ALL know. This is song is NOT part of the official tracklisting, it's listed as a bonus track and is likely not representative of the full album. Just listen to the two other singles or hear the album preview (The Mindsneak) in case you're worried that this song will represent a new musical direction for the band.
Trust me, this album will be boss.
Sweep*
harz6284
The album preview is called Mindsneak.
It this really a new direction? To me it's more of an evolution of the path they're already on.
Cracking song if you ask me! :)
Aaron Busch
My fail , thanks for pointing it out :D
What a dick head ^
I’ve been a Shikari fan for 15 years or so and this is the first time I’ve seen this video, absolutely brilliant lol
this is like a ridiculous jester and feast mixture. i love it!!!
interesting how both included references to food haha!
get this on spotify already, please x
I know right holy shit
Huge need for this on spotify!
they've uploaded a live version in spotify :)
They tweeted me to say its iTunes exclusive
2 years late but hey its on it now
Better than 90% of music today
ENTER SHIKARI!!!! Entertaining My Life since 2007...
1:32 is one of the greatest things i have ever heard, that combination of synths and metal sounds fucking brilliant
I love how all these people are complaining about this song, if you bothered to read the description its a BONUS TRACK off the album. If you have been following along with ES, you would know they had something like 46 songs for this album and had to only pick 12. Im glad they released this, its freaking brilliant and make me laugh every time.
I don't understand how people could complain about this. Do they not know enter shikari?
Scrolling through comments I have seen 3 alternative explanations,
1) about critical response to entershikari from the metal scene,
2) a metaphor for the government
3) a criticism of entitlement
... All from a song about a restaurant.
Anyone who thinks electronic music is talentless, please write something that can be interpreted in such a varied way, from such a simple message.
Entershikari has some serious talent :P
Im in love with this... Shikari have smashed it again.
Video reminds me a bit of old school Gorilaz
Same. Especially the dancing chef.
JayzOned C Hedley Manning I knew I was getting some sort of vibe from the art style. You've hit it bang on though
The dancing is similar to the dancing in the video for "Dare" and the general art style screams of "Clint Eastwood"
but as much as i love them... this song is better haha
Wasn't expecting a new Enter Shikari track when I woke up. Today is a good day. A very good day.
Coming from a food establishment and having to deal with customers who get worked up in a fit over the most trivial garbage
I want to thank Shikari for putting my frustration in words
Anyone clock Jonny and the Sniper's playing at 1:26? ;)
I'm not quite sure what's going on, but I love it
Thanks to Enter Shikari for exploring the boundaries of music once again.
I absolutely love it :D
Loved the little slip in of "Johnny and the Snipers" at 1:24.
This is brilliant. Prodigy vibes. Beautifully produced and an amalgamation of everything they've done musically. Great laugh, too.
these guys are genius in every way! and they realized that mankind is at the point where we have everything to change the world (structures of power, science on "the evil")
I was a always a bit 50/50 on buying the new album. Now I'm not. I'm gonna buy it!
this isnt actually on the album
^it is, just as a bonus track.
no it isnt, i have the album
AmazingJoe96 As do I, which means you didn't get it on iTunes (which is okay)
THEY ARE NOT CHANGING
THEY ARE JUST KEEP EVOLVING
Such a fucking phenomenal track, I was smiling all the way through
this song is so awesome nobody would ever be able to make this.
NOBODY
This song makes me wanna yell at people
+MissNatTheWitch ...yell, and run around room, house, street, city ... Oo
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
Woopsie
+Ben Brinton HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAH
Quite simple actually. The restaurant/manager is the "establishment" or "system", and he is quite frankly FURIOUS with his service.
Well I'm gonna be replaying this for a while.
Johnny and the sinpers, brilliant!!
Whatever ES took to produce this, I wanna have twice as much
The best animation music video I've ever seen.
Am I the only person who actually likes this song? I mean yeah it's a bit different, but who actually cares. Even though its not actually on the track listing and its a bonus track, I still appreciate the fact that Enter Shikari made this song for fans like us, so if you're a real Enter Shikari fan, stop complaining that it's wank and just appreciate the effort they went through to make it.
I agree. Honestly, I love how hilarious and random this song is compared to what they usually make. I literally couldn't stop laughing for a solid minute after hearing it.
I think its brilliant. I hope they play it live :L You know like on the FFOC tour they had the intermission with the Sssnakepit beer being served? I hope this gets an honourable mention.
***** When I saw them in Brussels earlier this month they played it. They also played it the day after at Amsterdam. Crowd went insane :D
Oh man I love this!!!! I hope they play it at their melbourne show in oz :) I have heard they have played it at other shows :) it's classic enter shikari I love it!!!!
I LOVE this song. Literally my favorite track by them.
Props to the artist!!!!
This live is gonna be banging
I was totally thinking, "this is so Ren and Stimpy", and then I read through the comments and realized it was done by the guy behind that show haha my eye for cartoons didn't fail me. Awesome video.
I'd totally watch an Enter Shikari cartoon on a Saturday morning
Awesome!
oh lordy lordy
this is just completely mental, It's beautiful!
"Now playing: Jonny and the Snipers" Love how they're so different yet they never forget where they started.
Can't stop listening to this song...
I like it, I like it alot..
I've always liked enter shikari for their hardcore and techno elements, me being of that age.. This is just another banging song of theirs..
Also their political angle is not a bad thing, the world's fucked up, they're pointing it out..
*And* synths and computers do make music, they're other musical instruments.. Good ones..imo
Easily your greatest video ever.. that's more like it boys!!
"thats a great vase you got there, it'd be a real shame if something happened to it!...Woopsie"
haha this music video is truly hilarious, leave it to ES to make something so extravagant within the Post-Hardcore genre =P
Love the LOTF reference, love this song, love Enter Shikari
I love the subtle nod to "Lord Of The Flies" with the severed pig head and "Sucks to your assmar" on the wall. Literature, everyone. Enter Shikari are gods among men.
I don't know what I just heard...but I think I love it.
People taking this song too seriously need to give their head a wobble. Song is clearly a bit of fun.
Also a bit Sleaford Mods influence on this
BETTER THAN I COULD HAVE HOPED
Im pissing myself laughing and loving the tune at the same time.
That is probably the hardest breakdown I ever heard.
This is gonna go off as much as Zzzonked live
Music video of the year/10.
They just got 1000 times more ridiculous and I'm so damn happy.
Feels like a follow up to the Jester with a different style for the approach. Like it.
My take on this is a scathing critique on today's culture of entitlement, where no matter how nice something is we feel an ingrained need to complain.
This.
this is the interpretation i'm hoping it is.
this is exactly what i thought too
This pretty much sums up what I had in mind.
Jonny and the snipers are playing in background
Such a good video, kicks the crap out of the last few.
5th REPLAY AND IM STILL LAUGHING IMMENSELY
I'd never even heard of this song until I saw it live and i'd be damned if it wasn't my favourite song on the set. Absolute madness, can't wait to see them live again.
So of this doesn't become a series then nothing else should
Old Enter Shikari were so good
All your theories are nice but I just have to say, what makes you think that this song isn't about our capitalist economy? Everything he complains about is evident in things that are going on today.
1. the restaurant is called "La Snoot" a snoot is a member of the upper class who see member of Middle or lower class as inadequate and useless.
2. they were greeted by a servant that didn't like his job and was grimace servant with a sneer. If he is a snoot then he wouldn't want lower class citizens where he is.
3. They were sat by the window where the draft was terrible and a huge inconvenience, and it seems that the rich upper class put people in the lower class in situations and locations that seem to be of great inconvenience for them to climb the ladder of success.
4. Their Cook was a heathen, the cook in a restaurant is the major representation of a restaurant. The manager is just for show, the cook is the one people seek for the most extremes, if they want a special order, they tell the cook, or if the food is cold, they want to speak with the cook. Some would say he represents the food, and at a restaurant the food is what the people want. If you don't get what I'm saying I'll spell it out Cook=President(Prime minister, etc...), Food=Laws. The president (Prime minister) represents the laws that the people want, but if he is a heathen that has been chosen by the snoots, he can not do that justly.
There are many more points that he makes but I think you get what I'm saying.
But of course I could be wrong, this is just my opinion. But either way right or wrong I love this song and this Band!
Happy 6th anniversary!
Lol at the Lord of the flies reference on the wall towards the end of the video.
Yeah! The dead pig's head a(the Lord of the flies) and Ralph's famous saying 'sucks to your assmar'!
Yeah! The dead pig's head a the Lord of the flies) and Ralph's famous saying 'sucks to your assmar'!
Good spot, it's been soooo long since i last watched that film i'd never have spotted that.
damn you Enter Shikari.real rave right here!
I could get my English teacher to play this because of the Lord of the flies reference 👍
Mad if you dont like it...beats and anger! Excellent
"Sucks to you ass-mar"
Lord of the Flies reference is appreciated.
If i could watch the recording of any ES song i would definitely choose this one
"OI FUCKS LET'S EAT 'ERE IT LOOKS NOOIICE"
Beautiful.
I really want to see this Live again!! Maybe the 23rd in AFAS (the Netherlands!)
YES WHAT HOW WHY WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT
I want this to be Christmas Number One!
I kinda like this side of ES a bit more
the angry and spastic songs about feasts and shit
It took me a long time to realise that Rory C actually says something when Rou says "Rory C tell 'em" as you don't hear him when you listen to the R side of headphones :D
I thought that because he is outside queueing - you can't hear him! Great track! \m/
Reminds me of Ren & Stimpy a bit
animated by the same dood :).
Please play this on the UK tour!
At 2:00 above the pig head it says "Sucks to your assmar" I'm guessing that's a Lord Of The Flies reference?
Yup. I chortled.
1:06 that part reminds me A LOT to Dylan Moran from Black Books...
This song is awesome. Period.
This song is fucking sick. Stop taking Enter Shikari so seriously
Yes! Jonny and the snipers!
Ha, just noticed the sign at 1:24 says "Jonny and the Snipers" :P
just brilliant!
still trying to figure out if this is some giant metaphor hahaha
Just google the meaning of Slipshod.
Tom Nicholson
archaic
(of shoes) worn down at the heel.
"his slipshod heels"
All makes sense now!
Slipshod means lack of though, care, organisation etc. So the boss of this 'fancy restaurant' was wrecked by the slipshod management. The metaphor being that the restaurant is the government with it's slipshod management.
Thought *
I request this song must be played in the next tour (esp Nottingham please) 😂 SLIPSHOT KICKIT
Erm. Ah. Erm... I... I just. I really don't know what to say. It's like someone turned The Jester up to 11. Great song, brilliant lyrics. Video made me confused on so many levels.
love this track something different great video too.
greetz from gema free germany \o/
I bloody love this
The singing chicken head... too fucking good /cheers
"ARRRRGH"- Angry beheaded chicken in the Slipshod video, 2014.
shikari goes hardstyle and I've seen everything
Did anyone noticed Johny and the Snipers? :F
Sounds amazing
Once upon a time, this was a great band with great talent. Now they have computers for that.
Ah yes, remember that tragic day when computers passed the Turing test, and became more creative than humans and removed human input from music production? Remember when the legion of evil synthesisers and laptops cold-heartedly murdered the humble acoustic guitars and pianos, simply because they sounded different? How i cried when Rou Reynolds said "oh well it looks like artificial intelligence is capable of producing music, I suppose I'll just stop writing and let the evil machines do all the work.
You do realise electronic music still has to be written and produced?
Mate. Electronic music is all music. All music is produced my dear boy. Most musicians don't produce their own come to think of it. They just write and perform for the producers to dye and sow together into a coherent song. Many who produce electronic music often write and perform on instruments such as guitars in a process called "sampling" and then construct their songs. Production, the computer aspect of music, is a discipline is as difficult as any other in music.
Hmm no, I don't think it is. And really, I don't care. Music for me always has to do with instruments, played by musicians and not with a fucking machine, creating the music/sounds for you.
MisterFisterBo As ethan said, sampling is a thing.
This is so awesome!!!
