    LYRICS:
"Oi fucks, let's eat 'ere, it looks niiice"
    Get me the manager
"Oh dear, what seems to be the problem sir?"
First of all I was greeted with a grimace
    Service with a sneer
He don’t want to be here
Second of all I was seated by the window
and the draft was a serious inconvenience
There was lipstick on my glass and it wasn’t mine
We put our order in - I can’t believe the time
This is a shambles, your cook is a heathen
Your carpet is ugly and your veg ain’t in season
My impatience spread like gravy on a tablecloth
And your head looks like it was carved out of a nut
    Rory C, well, tell ‘em…
I was waiting in line for 10 whole minutes
This is unacceptable - you’re pushing me to my limits!
"Please don’t raise your voice in here sir
    This is a respected establishment,
I’m sure we can sort this out quietly no?"
Oh really? Well that’s a great vase you got there,
It’d be a real shame if something happened to it…
    Slipshod, kick it.
    Cunt.

I love that even in a silly song like this, Rou's lyrics are still better than a lot of other bands out there.
And that laugh at the end is so contagious.

There were 2 ways I interpreted this...
    1. ES went to a restaurant and experienced extremely substandard service which incited them to voice their anger in a song.
    2. This is a parody song aimed at the criticism ES receives (a theme that seems to be at the forefront of Mindsweep). Much of this from the hardcore/metal scene is down to their music being too political. This song is the epitome of non-politics, causing the viewer to question why the boys are getting so worked up over such trivialities. It puts into perspective the pettiness of the typical "angry" song narrative when juxtaposed to anxieties concerning the fate of our species.

I think it's just another extended food metaphor like Shikari are fond of (Jester, Feast) about the outdated class system, what with the song name being Slipshod and all.

This song is a banger, this has been my favorite band since 2007 and they are a true gift. All 3 of the singles from the new album (even if this is just a bonus track) are so entirely different from each other and unique. They never put the same album out twice. And you'll never see the same Enter Shikari show twice. I always look forward to seeing them live because they put on such a performance and their repertoire is so impressive compared to most bands. Never stop making music.

Just so you ALL know. This is song is NOT part of the official tracklisting, it's listed as a bonus track and is likely not representative of the full album. Just listen to the two other singles or hear the album preview (The Mindsneak) in case you're worried that this song will represent a new musical direction for the band.
Trust me, this album will be boss.

Scrolling through comments I have seen 3 alternative explanations,
    1) about critical response to entershikari from the metal scene,
    2) a metaphor for the government
    3) a criticism of entitlement
... All from a song about a restaurant.
Anyone who thinks electronic music is talentless, please write something that can be interpreted in such a varied way, from such a simple message.
Entershikari has some serious talent :P

All your theories are nice but I just have to say, what makes you think that this song isn't about our capitalist economy? Everything he complains about is evident in things that are going on today.
    1. the restaurant is called "La Snoot" a snoot is a member of the upper class who see member of Middle or lower class as inadequate and useless.
    2. they were greeted by a servant that didn't like his job and was grimace servant with a sneer. If he is a snoot then he wouldn't want lower class citizens where he is.
    3. They were sat by the window where the draft was terrible and a huge inconvenience, and it seems that the rich upper class put people in the lower class in situations and locations that seem to be of great inconvenience for them to climb the ladder of success.
    4. Their Cook was a heathen, the cook in a restaurant is the major representation of a restaurant. The manager is just for show, the cook is the one people seek for the most extremes, if they want a special order, they tell the cook, or if the food is cold, they want to speak with the cook. Some would say he represents the food, and at a restaurant the food is what the people want. If you don't get what I'm saying I'll spell it out Cook=President(Prime minister, etc...), Food=Laws. The president (Prime minister) represents the laws that the people want, but if he is a heathen that has been chosen by the snoots, he can not do that justly.
There are many more points that he makes but I think you get what I'm saying.
But of course I could be wrong, this is just my opinion. But either way right or wrong I love this song and this Band!

It took me a long time to realise that Rory C actually says something when Rou says "Rory C tell 'em" as you don't hear him when you listen to the R side of headphones :D
I thought that because he is outside queueing - you can't hear him! Great track! \m/

Slipshod means lack of though, care, organisation etc. So the boss of this 'fancy restaurant' was wrecked by the slipshod management. The metaphor being that the restaurant is the government with it's slipshod management.

Once upon a time, this was a great band with great talent. Now they have computers for that.

Ah yes, remember that tragic day when computers passed the Turing test, and became more creative than humans and removed human input from music production? Remember when the legion of evil synthesisers and laptops cold-heartedly murdered the humble acoustic guitars and pianos, simply because they sounded different? How i cried when Rou Reynolds said "oh well it looks like artificial intelligence is capable of producing music, I suppose I'll just stop writing and let the evil machines do all the work.

You do realise electronic music still has to be written and produced?

    • @EthanJuppDrives
      @EthanJuppDrives 9 лет назад +4

Mate. Electronic music is all music. All music is produced my dear boy. Most musicians don't produce their own come to think of it. They just write and perform for the producers to dye and sow together into a coherent song. Many who produce electronic music often write and perform on instruments such as guitars in a process called "sampling" and then construct their songs. Production, the computer aspect of music, is a discipline is as difficult as any other in music.

    • @Tobi_Schmobi
      @Tobi_Schmobi 9 лет назад

Hmm no, I don't think it is. And really, I don't care. Music for me always has to do with instruments, played by musicians and not with a fucking machine, creating the music/sounds for you.
