Good for you, to give back to the community for anybody in the future who may need similar info. Those who make the effort to give back are a very tiny fraction of all users.
I've got an '86 4.236 on a Cat loader-backhoe. It has plenty power, cranks on second turn and idles with a purr at 450 rpm with oil pressure over 40 psi... No leaks anywhere. A lot of keeled sailboats use these for auxiliary power. The US corporate headquarters/distribution center for Perkins is in Jacksonville. Just across the river 20 miles from me.
I'm trying to figure out the timing ratio between the crank and the inj pump. I'm thinking that the inj pump will hit all 4 cylinders in 1 rotation, which would be 2 rotations for the crank? Your ideas. I am trying to install the inj pump back onto the engine. Possibly the side cover shall be opened to align No 1 visually inside the pump...?
I've been working on this 88 Camry 3sfe for some time now. I was checking grounds and continuity. I considered buying a tone generator tool that you used on d6Spanky corolla fuel issue video. I did find some interesting readings yesterday with continuity checks. The VTA wire and IDL wire from the throttle sensor to the computer. IDL gave a consistent reading. VTA was unstable. Now I do want a tone generator. Trace down the short.
The idler should have a hunting tooth ( one more than twice the other gears, 24-49 etc) in it and you should be able to take it off and line a the other marks up and put it back on. At least that is how it works on the engines I have worked on.
I had a few motors which appear half a tooth off not on mark. I put paint marks or scribe before disassembly to avoid issues. One odd tooth on one gear insures equal wear since two teeth never consistently mesh on the same power pulse. Ducati has this idea . Look up a Napier Deltec engine ..
I’d sure like to know if that distributor gear can jump timing, with the cover in place? My starter was cranked, ever so briefly, but I managed to align and install the pump, and haven’t pulled the cover to investigate.
Once you line them up it takes several turns to bring them back where it should be I don't remember how many turns been a long time since I worked on one the 203 and 152 engines takes a lot more turns than the 236 or 248 engines
Good Job Brian; thank's to share allways with quality video And información! And congratulations because you are so clase yo 250 K subscribers, big hold! (ABRAZOTE! from México city)
Help me have the same engine which I am rebuilding after finishing all tried to start it's failing to start.timing it's correct, fuel is coming out nicely
briansmobile1. Seen many of these motors in Marine applications where they didn't have OEM air filters. Guess they figured dust can't float over water. If you're still working on this one I'm sure many of us would love to see more of the rebuild.
Do you know how to lock the crankshaft gear on a perkins 1106a 70t ? I have cylinder 6 on the rock. Timing Mark's aligned on gears at the front. Cam shaft lock pin is in however on the 1103 and 1104 there is a pin that locks the crank but on the 1106 it's not there. Any info you can help me with I would be grateful cheers
Brian, I have a couple of off topic questions I hope you can answer for me. My father passed a while back and I am cleaning up the garage. I ran across several full cans of R12 refrigerant. Is there any market for R12 anymore? Is it legal for someone like me to sell it? Thanks
I CAN START ENGINE WITHOUT ANY TIMING MARK OF CRANK CAME AND INJECTION PUMP, YOU CAN FIND FIREING ORDER FROM CAME SHAFT , CAM AND CRANK MAKE FIREING ORDER,
Frank Perkins was an entrepreneur from England. He started a prolificly popular high speed diesel engine company in 1932 that bears his name. Today the company is a subsidiary of Caterpillar. Perkins engines are found world wide in boats, tractors, material handling equipment like mine, and power generation equipment and even trucks and taxicabs etc.
I'd have to put it in paint then mark it off a bit. In real life it's easy to put your hand on a tooth and count from there but digitally it's much harder - I tried on another video once where the comment was about how many degrees timing was off based on tooth count vs how many teeth into degrees. :)
This is not a good explanation anyone can put the marks together but you didn't told the most important thing.BEFORE YOU PUT THE MARKS IN PLACE THE FIRST PISTON MUST BE IN TOP DEAD END and then align the marks otherwise you won't start the engine.

Good work
Oh man this takes me back to 2012-2013 where I worked on a few engines.
Do you know how to set time
Did you ever come across a Perkins with a vacuum pump??
Looks quite similar to my Kubota 2 cyl diesels. Cheers bud .

What if you can’t get them to line up? I, about 1 off no matter how many times I rotate
this engine type still works in our pushback car, douglas.
Popular motor on 28 foot Nordic Tug boats. Amazing efficiency, 4000 hours is just getting seated in.
This one is at 6k hours, but at dirt and water and then sat for 12 years in the weather with the intake open. I guess that's bad?

Just wondering if you know which mark for flywheel timing is required for a P[erkins 236 on a Massey Ferguson 175? Thank you

Hi Friends, is this info good for a 1104D - 44t engine? thank you.
Sweet!
How can we find TDC
Can wrong timing valves makes the engine not to start just from rebuilding

Sir can I ask you a question?
Valve adjustment
Does anyone have a Perkins with a vacuum pump in it? The one that goes under the fuel inyeccion pump..

How to do timing on Perkins 1300series
Heui?
Hope you can help me, what is the valve clearance for this engine??
8 for inlet and 12 for exhaust.
Nice vidyo sar
my machine at the time of star's initial sound was rough. I asked for enlightenment
Gosto k matuto s timing Ng howo
That could be confusing indeed. I'd be lining up the two marks with the two marks and yeah, I better not try this at home.
Jerry sent me here
Doesn't seem confusing to me because you're not going to be able to line the marks up any other way than how you did it. Give it a try.

I counted 58 - I could be wrong though lol

56 is what I finished with, maybe I need to retake 1st grade.
I counted 56 too xD
