Thank you so much for this entertaining and educational video. You have solved a conundrum that i have had for years. When i came to Brum in 1974 for an interview at the University one of my strongest initial memories was driving past Holy Trinity Church. It made a real impression on me. However i also remembered another large church close by which is long gone and now replaced with the SDA church. I was beginning to think my memory was totally false - but seeing Camp Hill Presbyterian church in the video has confirmed that my recollection was true. Brilliant set of videos!
It was a really interesting video and well put together. It sad how many great historic buildings have and continue to be demolished in the name of progress.
I used to work at Dowding & mills (Sulzer) at the top of camp hill during the noughties. Hurts a little to see it's all been levelled. I worked with a lot of guys that had worked there man and boy and I bet it's even more gut wrenching. I even met my wife there.
Great pictures and filming. Excellent choice of music to create emotions of a bygone era. Made me think of all our loved ones who are no longer with us who would have been familiar with some of these changes.

No matter how many times I check the video, errors always slip up... At 32:40 Bradford St actually ran from Moat Row to Camp Hill. And I knew it, I don't know why I put Alcester St for... Anyways 😌 Sorry about that.
This is a brilliant video but how you managed to do it without mentioning Dowding and Mills which was there for over a hundred years is a mystery. It was no small part of the video as it is the site with all the huge fencing around it and also incorporated Trinity school. I worked there as an an apprentice from 1987 until 2010 when it changed to Sulzer (where i still work) I watched the old school get demolished, the old flyover and watched with sadness as Dowding and Mills was dismantled - on my trips down the Blues. I know progress is good but still...........
Well done for bothering to make this piece of work. Obviously, with the music, it's quite poignant viewing but I think that's not a bad thing. Love these areas of Brum but sadly, bit by bit, they disappear...as do we, unfortunately.
can I ask where you got these amazing pictures? My Dad grew up in that house on Camp hill next to the garage in the 1950's, he would have been living there when these photos were taken, with his extended family of first generation Italian immigrants. I've been researching the area for a project and haven't been able to find anything as good as these. Sadly there are no family photos of the front the house. This has blown me away.

An interesting fact about the flyover. They tested putting sections together in Bordesley Green. I remember as a child going to see it and walking along a section. I also remember seeing it put together at Camp Hill and driving across it.

If you ask the staff for the Bham photos CD, more are on there. I didn’t bother because it would have been too much. But if you are not in Bham, next time I go there, I’ll get the photos and send them to you.
So nice to see lived in Sandy Lane the bottom of Trinity Hill would have liked to have seen that area went to Holy Trinity school in the 50s christened in Holy Trinity church so sad to see it now lovely building going to waste. I have a lot of good memories growing up in the area .remember the flyover being built and opened.

Redevelopment? Talk about throwing out the baby with the bath water! What your excellent and very evocative series has painfully shown, is just how unimaginative and shortsighted both the Council and the City developers have been, and still are, especially when you see some of the very poorly designed architecture they have built to replace some irreplaceable buildings that were part of Brums heritage, or have simply demolished to increase traffic flow! I’m all for progress and improvement, but unfortunately a lot of what’s been done can only be described as sheer deliberate vandalism!
Man Birmingham is a dumb now... It's lost all character and charm I hate going up town now because it's all to modern and boring there's no character in the buildings there's nothing that makes you go wow history it's all just flashy and boring I don't like it, Back in the old times Birmingham looked like a fun yet dirty city I wish we kept the old houses and buildings and built the city around them so we have that mix of old and new!

Next time you are "in town" have a proper look around...there are still many old buildings left. If you just go down the road from this vids location you have the custard factory 🏭...it's not all doom and gloom you know.

I did add some of these pictures (flyover being assembled) but I removed them at the last minute because it seemed too much for the flow of the video.

the coelbunkers were better built than this modern rubbish . Mac mods BCFC 1875 .
