    If you’re anything like me, every now and again you just want to learn a good ol’ dirty sounding groove that makes you wanna say… “Ooof”…
    Well if today is one of those day’s for you, you’re in the right place!
    As well as teaching you a great bass line that will make anyone in their right mind get their groove on, I’m also going to demonstrate a couple of great harmonic devices that you can using over static dominant chords immediately.
    I wanna give you the “Ooof factor”!
    This groove is based around an E dominant 7th style vamp, and both of the licks include the minor 3rd. Now if you know anything about dominant chords you’ll know that they are an extension of the major triad, i.e. the minor 3rd is essentially a wrong note - but, in this style of groove it still works! In fact it does more than work, it sounds fantastic and gives the bass line that real bluesy style sound.
    I incorporate these types of lines and runs within my grooves as they’re a great way of expanding of the dominant 7th sound, and in-turn give you more options when grooving and soloing over static dominant chords.
    As always, see you in the shed…
    Scott :)

    Gosh that's one good bass, rich and distinct. I have concentrated on flaw-free and play anything so I need licks that are also musically intriguing. It's not technically hard. A good session. I've learned a lot over time and all is 100% Scott's.

    Scott's lessons are easily among the best music lessons I've found on youtube. They're both practical and theoretical, but most of all they are musical and insightful. I play a bit of bass and keys, but I still watch and practise what Scott teaches. Having said that, are there any other youtube channels that produce music lessons of similar quality that I should investigate?

      I have yet to run across any one who breaks it down and throws in the theory.
      I have seen so many that just say "go to the 4th fret of the D string" If they even call it a D String.. I scream at the computer "Say F#, these kids are never gonna know what notes are. LOL

    Watching back after seeing a recent podcast where Scott talks about how he wanted really narrow string spacing because of his Gary Willis influences, I now can't un-see how narrow his Overwater string spacing is!

    Firstly, what an excellent and enjoyable lesson! Love the way you emphasise that a harmonic understanding in required to squeeze maximum usage out of each and every lick (or motif, or modulation ... whatever!).
    I also love the way (in the light of comments on recent other lessons) you snuck in "So What?" as an example in the section starting at 17:12 !

    • @superTomwins

      89Kele focus on learning your e and a strings the other two learn off the octave of E and A. but generally i learned quickly from jamming with more knowledge able people, for instance they call out the key or the chords in a jam you gotta figure it out quick lol.

    Hey Scott! (and anyone else who reads this comment) I got a question for you: As I've been playing more bass recently, I've been noticing some dull ache in my hands, not always when I'm playing. I'm just wondering if anyone knows what this is/how to help it.

    • @assshakerstudios549
      @assshakerstudios549 9 лет назад

      Timfine See a Rheumatologist if in time it does not get better. Might be arthritis, but if you haven't been playing a lot then it's probably just the fact that your using different muscles. Try stretching(look up some exercises on here for stretching) both before and after you play. Stay away from artificial sweeteners, and canned drinks(especially those energy drinks) they kill your joints and ligaments. Eat a lot of cherries and blueberries, even if it's only in Greek yogurt or smoothies(as long as no artificial crap or xtra sugar). And keep hydrated, dehydration can cause muscle cramping. Also if you drink too much tea or coffee/soda it will cause hand cramping. I know this because I did all of that shit. Plus booze can do it as well. Try to eat a more natural diet. And get some excersize, if your outta shape you get tired more easily. But it could be something else, so if none of this works or you think it's more serious go to a Dr. Also if you smoke it can cause issues with pretty much everything. After I quite made a hell of a difference.

    • @timfine143
      @timfine143 9 лет назад

      Wow, thanks! That's a really comprehensive answer. I really doubt that it's arthritis, seeing as how I'm only 17 and in decent physical condition, but I'll look at the stretching and diet stuff for sure.
