    I’ve wondered for 20 years why no one has done this. Especially Caterpillar. Their heavy equipment runs diesel electric. Same with trains locomotives. One of the biggest advantages of a constant rpm engine is you could tune it so that the emissions are very low even without an emissions package.

      Go and read the history of LeTourne theyre tried and tested a lot of those way back it’s unfortunate there was no RUclips Facebook or tiktok to publicize it.

    Dave these guys are genius👍👍👍 I think that’s the future. No stupid charging stations that we don’t have. I love the office shelf part idea. I think these guys have something that’s gonna turn into something big in my opinion.👍👍👍

      Not exactly genius to fabricate a diesel locomotive on a truck frame. It's been an idea for decades at least.

    Those of us who work in the Diesel Electric world have been waiting for Edison to arrive. Since the 1920's Trains & ships have had diesel engines powering DC generators that provide power for DC drive motors. DC evolved into AC systems and we now see the addition of batteries. I'm sure many other truck (and car) manufacturers are closely watching Edison. I wouldn't be surprised if he receives a call from Elon Musk someday.

    Congratulations to Edison motors as they've said in some of their presentations they've done what the other companies didn't take the time or put in the effort to do. You would think that any of the trucking companies or automobile companies currently in operation would have gone down this path to be able to convert their current vehicles to electricity and hang on to their dealerships and their maintenance work instead of trying to go into something they know nothing about building an electric car from the ground up the crew at Edison have done a fantastic job and I can't wait till their product becomes available for truck conversions for smaller trucks pickup trucks and vans and RVs.

    No doubt that the concept is great. Hybrids are the answer to both range and lowered emissions. And as explained, the torque and HP delivered to the contact surface between the tire and road, is insane. Even at 0 rpm, electric motors produce the same torque as when running.

    Hybrid vehicles and hydrogen powered vehicles is best, but there is a place for electric vehicles, just shouldn't be forced.

    Great idea but with trucks like that you have to haul less weight, because those electric trucks are heavy or change regulations in the nation to increase the amount of weight you can haul with those trucks.

    Or making it like a train where you just deliver power directly to the electric motor from the generator where you always have the generator on that’s even more efficient than battery’s

    Every major class 8 truck maker is going electric. Edison Motors, as its own guy describes it, is at this point a Rube Goldberg contraption. By the time Edison has anything close to a marketable truck, Tesla, Freightliner, PACCAR, etc.will own the market.

  • @Truckingup

    That's the way to go but one problem. The rail road bought the patent and runs that setup in the trains. So may have a patent issue.

    People will say Tesla semi looks bad. I don't think his truck wins any shows for looks. Its definitely not Kenworth W900 or a Peterbilt 379. The technology in the trucks is hands down. This is where I can kind of blame the big manufacturers for dropping the ball and being completely behind the curve. Elon is always pushing over the curve achieving the impossible. Realistically this tech should have been in trucks ten years ago. But they keep us trying to fight DPF and emissions lawsuits which frankly is huge setbacks for trucking. Looks are subjective. Build the trucks lets see them everywhere.

    How is 28k lbs a reasonable weight when a cascadia and trailer 32k lbs 😂

      These aren't primarily highway trucks

    • @treyschmidt762
      @treyschmidt762 3 месяца назад +5

      This truck is built much, much heavier duty than a cascadia, it is designed for heavy off highway work, rather than lighter duty on highway driving. It has thicker framerails than a standard truck will have.

    • @Tb0n3
      @Tb0n3 3 месяца назад

      That's exactly why it hasn't been done before. It works for trains because they're not exactly weight limited. Also, that's 28k for a DAYCAB.

    • @bondobilly9369

      My 579 weighs close to 28k bobtail. Trashcadias are throw away trucks that are ran for 3/400k, sold and get another maybe 200k and it goes to the scrap yard. Even my pete is a throw away and might last 750k, but itll need a rebuild between 550k/600k.
      The edison truck is designed for off highway/heavy haul, not to be a pavement princess. I haul bulk cryo and would love a Edison with a 60" sleeper
