Skiving plays such an important role in leather craft. The first wallet I made could have used it severely!

Thanks, a very helpful video for me. Around 6 mo. ago I started leather craft as a hobby, made a couple eyeglasses cases for friends and now I'm working on my 1st 11 pocket bi-fold, and of course, I have issues with skiving. I watched a lot of videos but you are the first who shows how to use different types of skiving knives. Have you ever tried manual skiving machines and how to control the skived leather thickness?

I appreciate the kind words. I have been basically doing everything by hand since the beginning. The machines would be very nice and they can actually be set to whatever thickness you need and its a done deal!! They look like a delight to use but like many things in leather work you can break the bank with many of the machines that can be accomplished by hand. Im sure they are waaaayy more consistent and efficient. We can all dream right?!?!

I have seen the strap skiving tools and you just pull a strap across it but they are limited for many projects outside of belts, etc

Same thing happens to many. Start with something small and continue to learn and try to keep taking on new projects
