As soon as I saw the floors and the directories, I knew Simon had been here. The square vents remind me a lot of my hometown mall, Melbourne Square, which was a debartolo built former Simon Mall, constructed in 1980.
Grew up going to this mall in the 90s. I remember going there to watch movies and there were lines to get in. We would go early because there used to be an arcade down the one section you didn’t turn into. It had an old school shooting gallery. I still remember hitting the piano player. He would start playing the piano when you hit the target. 3 staple games I played there were TMNT, Simpsons, and Mario Bros. Good times.
This one had a very strange feel to it and what stood out to me was all the open space. It just seemed to be open, with no signs that in the past that space had any purpose like displays or booths or something to showcase local town events or there were planters or fountains...it was just open space as if designed to be that way...to me that just highlighted the strange feel. That said, it is in very good shape of a mall it's age and for one that has gone through so many changes and had so many various incarnations within it's life.
I like the gray squares on the floor and the plant pots near the doors. The outdoor plants look pretty good too. This mall is literally 50 years and doesn't look too bad, but it could use a splash of color to accent the walls.
The memories I have of this mall! Grew up just a few miles away! Was a mall rat! My first two jobs were at Woolworths (where they paid in cash in little brown envelopes) and JCPENNEY! My dad took me driving in that parking lot on Sundays ( because back in the 70' s nothing was open on Sunday's - so the parking lot was mine!)
You pronounced it correctly. I do agree with you on this being a rather plain mall. Supposedly had a lot more unique things going for it that were lost with a major renovation in the 1990s. Also, a lot has changed from when this video was taken as the former Sears wing is really suffering nowadays with only a couple of open tenants. Auntie Anne's has since closed as well, but at least it was replaced by a local taffy shop. Ollie's Bargain Outlet will be taking over the Officemax space. I did always find JCPenney closing and then coming back extremely weird here. It does explain why the store feels so cramped and seems to lack selection though. I would of honestly liked to have seen JCPenney reclaim the Officemax space, but that's definitely not going to happen now. Sometimes I wonder how practical it is for JCPenney to operate here still, as a lot of people make the trip down the interstate to Erie, PA to do shopping. The Jamesway that relocated here replaced what was actually Jamesway store #1. Jamesway got its name from Jamestown.
The jc penney's looked very cool and there were a couple of other intresting facades but overall I'm not in love with this mall. Maybe if I was there in person I would get the feels🤔 never the less great video as always!
Took a stroll through there just yesterday. Heritage Living, rue 21, Shoe Dept. Encore, Yankee Candle, and Auntie Annie's are all gone now.

Mean Gene's Burgers? That was the burger joint named after wrestling announcer Mean Gene Okerlund.
I remember seeing one years ago in a small West Virginia town. I doubt they're around anymore, though.

Bon Ton took over Woolworths? Did they ever get the smell of grease out of there? (You know they had a lunch counter in the back)

I remember when there were more stores. I also rode the carousel as a little girl.
Good video! Thanks.

The exterior of this mall looks really nice and vintage, but the interior is very forgettable. This place is definitely in trouble.

Looks to be about half dead? Why is it that the Halloween store like to open inside old Sears space? Something spooky going on there?
Hey Doomie, did you hear that Northlake Mall in Charlotte is in Receivership after their mortgage is in default? You may want to go and check that out
I actually work at this mall as a security guard and can assure you, it is exactly as bland and empty as it looks
"Rue 21 etc" yikes 😬
