I'm a 53 year old dude who only skated casually in my youth. I don't know crap when it comes to skating. I have a thought that humans can manifest anything they are passionate enough about. I believe that skaters are among the easiest people where this can be observed. Skaters' ability to think a trick and make it happen personifies our insane abilities as humans. Andy Anderson is such a joy and one of the most fascinating to watch! Great video, Dan!

Is the food for the monkey's infinite too? The paper and ink? Who would service the typewriters? Monkeys? And the monkey typewriter techs have an infinite amount of tries fixing the typewriters? Is there even a company still around to make enough typewriter ribbon? And even if the perfect Hamlet does come out of it all, would there be anyone around to read it? It's a complement to Shakespeare that it's not a 1:1 ratio or even a 1: billion ratio of who could produce/replicate his work. Let alone as many masterpieces as he created in the era he created them

There are differnet infinities, and some are larger than others. For example with the monkeys one you could have an infinite amount of them each typing the letter A but with each one typing one more A than the last on to infinity. Then you could also do this with each letter of the alphabet and that infinity would be 26xs larger than the one with just As. So with that knowledge it isn't guaranteed just giving infinite monkeys randomally typing they would write all of Shakespeare's writing, they could eaisly type nonsense for infinity as there's an infinite amount of ways to rearrange nonsense. It's not a 0% chance they'll type Shakespeare, but it's also not 100%.

I think what Andy was getting at with the apple was that if you have an apple in a sealed box and it decomposes, all of the atoms that formed that apple are still contained within the box. Given an infinite amount of time, those atoms might rearrange themselves in such a way that the apple would reform. When you put it like that, it does sound implausible because it violates concepts of causality and entropy.

I’m a musician and I went to school for Classical Guitar. When I am performing or practicing for my Classical Guitar stuff and I’m lucky I will be able to tap into that flow state and it’s like my progress or success rate doubles. It gets easier over time to tap into it but it doesn’t always happen like if there’s something else in life occupying my mind, I need to move around, etc.

Each fail is a step closer to the make. Imo each time he fails to have his body weight and board angle the way it needs to be, his mind and body (muscle memory) are taking notes subconsciously, remembering. Enuf tries and the key will slide effortlessly into the lock. (Metaphorically)
Its a Skater's attitudude of consistently trying over and over that makes the trick happen, and a skater, a skater. It's the one thing that trips none of us out, repetition. This is jst my opinion, I'm feeling talkative.
Loved it since I first saw and heard a board. Speed, danger, pleasure and noone telling I what to do and when to do it. I was hooked instantly.

The make was perfect. It was of the sliding style. In some of the earlier attempts Andy also tried to pivot and rotate only with the front truck [with no sound of the back wheels squeaking].
It would be cool if Andy also could make the nose rotate version.
And the logic continuation of the 360 nose rotation would be a 180 nose rotation and come down forwards. That should be possible, although difficult.

Crazy enough that's the concept of humanity and AI in a nutshell. An infinite amount of monkeys living through a looooong ass time playing with clay and food. And through time the evolution and creation of things eventually happened.
But then the counter argument is, yes humanity was created, but why the rest of the animal kingdom didn't actually progress like humans did?
    Food for thought.

Giggled at the fact you said (paraphrasing): "flow state is hippy dippy nonsense", and then went on to essentially describe what flow state is. Flow is essentially a state of mind wherein you're totally immersed in the activity you're doing, and the level of challenge is optimal to keep you interested and engaged, but not so hard to cause you stress or perturbation. The balance of challenge level and skill level facilitates learning, engagement, and reduces distraction. It's very well studied and documented across almost every field. It may have been hijacked by the hippies at some point, but it's a highly effective state of mind to access to improve at activities like skateboarding, or even just enjoy them.

Infinity is a weird concept, right? So if the Sherlock Holmes quote: "... when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth." has any merit outside of the fictional world he exists in, how can you eliminate an infinite number of possibilities? I don't think you can - it's infinite, by definition there is no end. Infinity is weird.

Adhd comes in many forms. It can even look like lazy procrastination.
And Hyper Focus is the term we describe FlowState. And we can make connections with random things others dont see.
And you dont need to deal with it or know that you think different than some others. I accidentally discovered that i have it after months of laughing at videos about it, untill the day it clicked, "omg thats me"
He has a lot of thoughts, thought processes, and other things ive picked up on that could point in that direction. But it doesn't matter even if he does. It literally has as many ups as downs. And allows him to be him.

  • @josephwatkins9892
    @josephwatkins9892 9 дней назад +8

IMO, Andy is right. You're putting the cart before the horse. Mathematics is useless if its application doesn't consider the properties of what it is used to describe. The branch of mathematics you would want to look into is called chaos theory, in particular focusing on emergent systems. Higher orders of organization do occur within chaotic systems, but they requires a momentary trapping or localization of energy within a part of the chaotic (random) system. These moments of localization or trapping can only occur when the properties of multiple random parts interact together, what is called gestalt, synchronicity or (in mathematics) emergence. In order for the works of Shakespeare to emerge, the monkey's must first have within their structure the potential for higher organization. That does seem to be the case, but not if they remain as monkeys. They would need a caloric excess and selection pressure for increased cortical density--I am talking about convergent evolution, i.e. the monkeys becoming wicked smart. Underneath all of this is a greater question, which is telos. Looking at the universe from this mathematical perspective, there appears to be two possible teleologies: entropy and order. So, for example, will the motion of molecules in a box (as Andy correctly observed) ever produce an apple? Entropy says no. Even with infinity, disorder will only stay beneath some threshold of disorder. You're thinking the gambler's fallacy, that just because it happened incorrectly in the past it makes the next instance more likely to be correct. It doesn't work that way. Having been incorrect in the past doesn't make it more likely to be correct in the future, so adding infinite time doesn't change the probability substantially enough to overcome the brownian noise (to coin a phrase). But there does also appear to be a teleology of order present within being itself, as though we are pulled toward outcomes by what in chaos theory they call a strange attractor (what I suspect to be some unimaginable range of hyper-dimensional objects acting on our lower four), and that could make the apple appear---only, not in a box. The chaotic system would need some way to trap excess energy and instantiate order, just like the monkeys would need a caloric excess and selection pressure for cortical density. But, what do I know? That's how I see it. I'm a neoplatonist. It is what it is.

The issue is, to get that Shakespeare out of the infinite, it would take an infinite amount of time to get to it. Infinity is hard to grasp the concept of, but what's harder is understanding there are larger and smaller versions of infinity 👍
