The loss of the manufacturing industry wreaked havoc on Coventry. At one point Coventrys (midlands) workers earned more than national average. Socioeconomic factors explain some of it like personal drug use, but there are social problems that need to be addressed. If you can utilize an implement such as a knife on someone maliciously, you are just inherently and irredeemably evil, there's no excuse for that. The penalties for selling drugs are weak and lenient. Police are underfunded and preoccupied with political activism. All of this contributes to a sense of lawlessness.
I live in coventry and personally its not that bad. If you are a normal regular person. Its abit rough but not to the point where you dont feel safe walking around😂
Lady in the shop is full of it, wood end has had millions spent on it in recent times and got a massive community centre with gym, dance studio, outdoor football pitches, cafe etc
I don't think wood end is as bad as people make it out to be, if a person does try to cause trouble then it's their fault, I have worked with people from wood end and they have perfectly nice people, good and bad everywhere even rich areas
a "community center" is supposed to be free for public access, everything in that "community center" is for rent or paid for one way or another. its not w community center
@valerieee1469 it is free to public access the amenities have to be paid for how do you think it keeps running....plus there is a school on site and that's funded by the council!
I sold weed for 5 years, I sometimes carried a knife when things felt dodgy and towards the end about a year -8 months before I stopped I started getting really really paranoid thinking everyone was out to get me, I mean EVERYONE. I stopped selling to loads of people and started selling to the people who I knew well, the loyal ones. But I stopped and around 2 months before I stopped people started getting locked up house raided like 7/8 people I was acquaintances with, so I moved out the country and I haven’t been back to the uk since, literally changed everything about myself, started doing meditations and self healing and now I’m blessed and living life to the fullest, Like the guy said if you feel the need to carry a knife or a weapon somewhere don’t go there and stay in school and go to college I dropped out of school when I was 14, and then I spent 1 day at college half way through the first year I’ve never been a big people’s person, and I’m definitely not a people pleaser, So I feel because I’m like that people tend not to want to be friends with me
Normally when I see someone with purple hair I reach for the remote but God bless that girl in the shop, saying what we all think but politicians don't give a flying F for 👍
how much does it cost to maintain an addiction there per day? It seems expensive these people are talking about owing hundreds of pounds on credit which seems crazy

Cov born and bred, Born in Bell Green, moved to Tile Hill, Then Eastern Green, Then Stoke Ald, Then Binley and finally back to Tile Hill... Never had an issue really - I left Cov when I turned 30 after some relationship issues now living in Cornwall by the sea. But 10 years on every city in the country the youths are all carrying blades and desensitized and just stabbing for fun. Back when I was there we had bits and bobs go on but nothing like it is now... I remember walking at 3am from The Colly all the way back to Binley, through Hill Fields through Stoke down Binley road n that at 3am cus I had no taxi money and had no issues... I doubt I could do that now
Thinking the exact same thing, was hitting cov around the time icon opened so 98 or something. Was still at school them days so used our school bus passes to get up there, meet up in Mr G's 😂 and get on it. By the end of the night no one got and money left so we'd walk back to either our mates house down the binley rd or we'd have to walk all the way down the Holyhead and the A45 just to get home. Never did we ever get any drama along the way. Good old days are long gone.

@@Runningaround94 went cov the other week for the first in a very long time shopping, wish I hadn't. Other than close to west orchards it's all run down. Went round by where Woolworths used to be and you could cut through to the market and wow it's like crackhead central.
@@frankiewalnuts been a very long time since a night out in cov, I'm 41 now but even before I started going out in cov drinking I was always up there. Saturday morning at the swimming baths, cinema, walk around motor museum with mates etc when we were about 11. Used to jump 900 from meridien and spend the day up there, no chance I'd let my kids go alone these days. Shame really because I loved Coventry when growing up but like you say, every town up and down the country is full off kids with knifes and it's sad state of affairs. The world we grew up in has long gone.
Lived in Coventry all my life, I’m 26, definitely depends where you go, by no means is this an untrue representation and I see crime daily in the city centre and in various surrounding areas, grew up in Radford moved over to the other side of town, I was brought up very traditionally so for me even though I live in the city the behaviour is crazy to me, I’d never dream of behaving in such ways. I suppose it depends the groups your in and the area you are, along with your background and experiences of what’s normalised to different people. I will admit perhaps I’m in the minority but I’ve never been offered drugs but I definitely see dealing happening openly. For me the worst areas to go to alone are far gosford st, the burges, Henley green, wood end but it’s so complex and so many small communities and diversities, is really sad, particularly how common stabbings are that’s one if the worst things for sure - the sheer numbers of stabbings is frightening. Town is certainly a place of some difficult sights at times but there are also some good people and good organisations here making a difference for people
Respect for bro in the car not glamorising it. Im from coventry and i know exactly what all this is lile i was born in tilehill and i have family in woodend mad to see this when its in your city but yeh respect to those who spoke out about the problems
Been living in cov for 8 years, there are 4 parks within walking distance from my house. Never seen anything remotely bad compared to what i used to see in Brum.
The woman with the pink hair in the shop is the old type of councillors the nation used to have. They keep people, like that well way from positions of power these days as they are the few that would not sell the kids out.
"old type"; like when!?! She's definitely not getting a job looking and sounding like that so, for her to become a councillor is a nightmare that is thankfully never likely to happen.
they think its cool and way to get much money but those little kids and teens dont realize that only if you are the boss or very high in a huge mafia or a gang you will make money otherwise you will be used and get jailed
Funny you say that with Britains history in drug dealing. I mean Britain did try to destroy China with a Heroin epidemic, Britain thought it was a brilliant idea to grow in India/Bangladesh. Then try to destabilise countries flooding streets with drugs...
Give the kids something to do then , no jobs or things to do around and no male figures other than the gangs who couldn't care if they get stabbed or caught running drugs
Most if not all this is the main reason, as most if not all are having very little parenting skills if that is the kids have two parents in the first place. Cultural and interlect issues are the rest from what i see, all mashed up with drugs. ANY, good balanced kids have nothing to live for, and live in constant fear. I live in Coventry and brought my kids up there, but made sure they had a means of getting out of the place when they left school.
That's not always true though is it? Just being in the wrong place at the wrong time through no fault of your own can result in your life being destroyed or ended by these degenerates. The authorities are more concerned with the feelings of spoiled brats than they are keeping the streets safe. They would rather paint the roads with cult symbology than fix the potholes. There's more than enough blame to go around though, people are responsible for their own choices and actions. I was involved in drugs, and I got myself out of them because I saw what was happening to me and what what happening to those I was associating with. I wanted no part in it and haven't looked back since. People can make all the excuses they want but it's on them at the end of the day.
Lived in a lot of places but no where’s been like Coventry. The nonchalance of serious violence, drugs and prostitution I’ve never seen elsewhere. I was there a long time, knew where to go and where to avoid, but never felt safe, there’s always something in the air.
I grew up in coventry, that thing is normal to me but I know what you mean. Coventry has always had a 'vibe' even back in my day in the 70s and 80s, violent times back then. The phrase 'sent to coventry' exists for a reason.
Is it Britain that is broken though, or is it the fact taxpayers have to pay to keep women like this in crack and bad parenting, all while paying to put a roof over her entitled, add nothing to society, ungrateful mush!?!
The young man in the car that says dont get into dealing i think has a good heart. Its just circumstance that brings him to where he is in life. Hope his life turns round and finds a good path
😹...What circumstance?.. he stated "there's other stuff to do!" yet, he isn't doing that other! stuff!😂...worry about the one's without a mask!..the suppliers!.. look where South America is located!, and somehow?! the world!! is full! of stones!!😖... (one certainty!, he can definitely! have his identity! & that car! identified! & he should be getting a visit! soon!)🤣...whether he does! or not?!...thats stilĺ a bait! move! & not! worth the risk!😣
I lived in Hillfields for 3 years when I went to uni as it was the cheapest I could find and I never understood why such a small city is so crazy. I lived in the prostitute lane and saw a prostitute getting stabbed to death at 5 am one night, seen machete fights, a guy getting shot, so many fights and overall poverty, ignorance in kids, huge mental health issues and homelessness. Just on that street you were, Gosford street, there's always shootings, stabbing and all sorts of craziness happening. It was a fun city to live in as a student but you definitely don't feel safe if you're not from there.
Oi!!! That's my same experience lol Lived in halls 1st year, then Gosford St, Stoke & Hills. I'm from a poor part of South London and when I lived in Cov, I realised we had it easy. Poverty is just different there. If u are unlucky enough to be born there, the future is either bleak or just a day to day existence. 🤜🏿
That woman complaining about lack of facilities, it’s people in the area who destroy the facilities! You think drug dealers would swap making money for a community centre. These people destroy, make something nice and it’s gone within a few weeks. Behave and act with respect and it will be given to you in spades.
You think it’s drug dealers closing down facilities? lmao Dealers go where there’s a market. If Coventry wasn’t full of crackheads people wouldn’t be dealing there
Are you serious? given to you in spades. I'm in my 40s. When I was young, parks and community centers were being taken away, not because of damage, but because they didn't want to invest money in them. This is entirely the government's fault. They created the cesspool that Coventry has become. People like you have no clue.
@@Truth_hurts6969 you are partially correct, they were under funded due to under use. Do you think the young drug dealers are there because the under 18s disco has been cancelled? Communities need to take responsibility for their youth, you can’t constantly blame the government.
These kinds of areas don’t just happen. This is largely due to terrible parenting. There are many deprived areas that are ignored by the government, that aren’t anymore unsafe than anywhere else. Too many people use the fact that they’re in deprived areas as an excuse to fuck each other over. I’m live in a very deprived area, butI have nothing to do with drugs. I also didn’t have a good upbringing. Its all down to choice.
Im from brum. Known too many people that are so young selling. Its crazy too see and its so sad to watch, these kids just need a chance to find themselves. Great content and great editing! I live in Telford which isn’t far from Coventry. Sad thing is that this is happening in pretty much every city and large town across the uk now. We’ve got our fair share of problems this way but nothing close to this yet.

Born and bred in Coventry as long as you stay out of certain areas is to bad but you see drug dealers everywhere if I could afford to move I would be gone yesterday
That woman in the shop at the start summed up the whole of Britain to a t. I live in a kinda well to do area and it's the same here. Over the last 15 years everything has been taken away from the kids and young youth.its no wonder our kids are ending up on sick benefits with mental health. The ones that are to scared to go out of the house or the mum never wants them to go out in fear of them getting stabbed or end up in some kind of trouble like I said end up with mental health problems. Why work if you can get a flat and benefits and be better of than working. Country has gone to pot.
kids dont want to be kids anymore, its social media and drill culture/american wanna be culture that has ruined the kids, if they had parks they would just use them for hotspots to move drugs like we used to back when i was 14/15 in 2007, the only thing getting worse is the gang culture, yes the gov aint helping but the point stands, playgrounds wont change fuckall. even the youth clubs was hotspots for moving drugs, trust me the issue is much bigger than giving them something to do, we need bigger change.
True. The problem is it's all damned if you do and damned if you don't. The mental health issue in this country is through the roof. Not helped by the lockdown, I think that lock down really pushed mental health problems into over drive....as people lost their businesses, homes, jobs etc. Now people turn to drugs, crime. It's the same in history. I live in a very small village and in the past 4 years we have had 2 suicides....for a small village that's alot! One bloke threw himself off a bridge. It's sad.
I half agree, the gov has done us all dirty but we are still all responsible for some of our own actions. We dont need to use or deal drugs and create gangs/violence on the streets. Work is certainly a factor though and it wont gett better importing low level workers.
@@kyrusinek Absolutely. Also, people still believe in Government. That's a religion all on its own. The toughest thing alot of people will do is tick a box every 4 years of what slave master you want. I agree work is definitely better than dealing in drugs especially when you can see the devastating effects it has on people.
@@HonestPerspective1981 Goverments dont fix things Citizens do. We could be given all the money in the world but if your not using the time (And resources around) to better yourself, your family, friends and the area you live. What even is your life at that point?
If you ever wonder why a lot of countries in Asia Africa Arabia don't have the same problems with youth crime and drug addiction it's because the man's role as a father and elder in the community is given great respect and importance. Secondly religious values and religious institutions are at the centre of the community. This is why the UK also didn't have these problems 50 to 100 years ago.
They keep voting the same clowns in. Even if everyone in the city were offered 1M each to vote in change they would still vote in a labour council. They are brainwashed into socialism from birth.
Cov was ok ish when I grew up. I was from Radford, and was born in 1956. From what I read here. I don't think I'd ever return. Shame I loved the Golden Cross pub, and The Windmill pub and others too.

I can confirm, Burges/McDonalds isnt safe, even years ago i got robbed in broad daylight by two young teenagers with weapons in a tiny set back alley just meters from there. Nothing i could do at knife/gunpoint, not worth arguing..
Used to live in Cov. Beautiful history, some great parts of the town... but overall, an absolute dive of a place, even after the City of Culture win. So much I could say about it.
I’m a lorry driver from Bedfordshire I work out of Coventry regularly it’s a great place prefer it over central London any day of the week the people are sound I don’t see the everyday of life in Coventry but from what I know the people are very welcoming …
This is so different to Australia. I'm 30 and just stopped dealing most people are like me in their 30s or 40s usually just suppying to use themselfs. No teens dealing just adults.
As someone who's spent a long time in 3rd world countries, I feel safer in most of them than I do in the UK. We've become a dangerous, drug ridden, expensive, shit hole of an island. I can walk around town at night in any Asian country and be 99.999% safe, I've never felt like that in any UK city.
Lady in the shop "government don't give a shit". Coventry council has been labour for decades - and yet they still vote for them. Whatever labour touches goes to shit. Probably enough money for rainbow flags, migrant hotels etc etc but none for the British people.

But I stopped and around 2 months before I stopped people started getting locked up house raided like 7/8 people I was acquaintances with, so I moved out the country and I haven’t been back to the uk since, literally changed everything about myself, started doing meditations and self healing and now I’m blessed and living life to the fullest,

Funny you say that with Britains history in drug dealing. I mean Britain did try to destroy China with a Heroin epidemic, Britain thought it was a brilliant idea to grow in India/Bangladesh. Then try to destabilise countries flooding streets with drugs...
Parks destroyed by youth. The real issue here is people blaming everyone else for there shitty kids.
How is it a kids fault 😂 they dont know better? Adults fault poor guidance
imagine blaming kids for anything literal children as if they can make the right decisions with no guidance
In London it's Eastern European men that destroy our parks they sit children parks drinking alcohol all day pissing and vomiting in the parks
Coventry always been a very rough city from right back in the 70s, 80s not many other cities compare
I went toapub in Coventry about 20years ago, Itwas packed solid rough, no one batted an eye lid at us, I felt right at home, I'm from luton

Just on that street you were, Gosford street, there's always shootings, stabbing and all sorts of craziness happening. Are you serious? given to you in spades. I'm in my 40s.
If you ever wonder why a lot of countries in Asia Africa Arabia don't have the same problems with youth crime and drug addiction it's because the man's role as a father and elder in the community is given great respect and importance. 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Jesus
Thanks for the comment! New stuff on the way
That guy at 7.37 is a cop 😂
This place, is coming like a ghost town
5:00 not only in the UK / England, everywhere in Germany where I'm from it was back in the 90 and early 2010's just like she said Community centers places for kids to play on Consoles and everything it's all gone how lost a society is you see how they treat old and the kids or just everyone in that matter
I call the Cov “the Wild West “ 😂
Great documentary love to see more on different topics
Glad you enjoyed it! Any suggestions love to hear
5:00 The councils are not underfunded, they are greedy
And poorly run
the eclipse on lower street was one of the best venues in europe in 1990
till 1993
The roadman Coventry accent is just awful. Especially the RUclipsr.
I use slang to blend in if I start using Oxfordshire English perfectly eloquent infront of a crack dealer pretty sure he’ll think im police . You try it
@@HavingaSHOCKER I wasn’t clear. I wasn’t talking about you. Your accent was fine and I understand your point.
@@HavingaSHOCKER If you don't social code, do you really social?? Good job bro this was a great vid
@@JP-420 what
well said, ignoge the haters@@HavingaSHOCKER - whilst im here - are you good with a place to stay etc?
that lady in the shop is so spot on is mad
Mate seriously give your head a shake will you? She's an actual crack head with ferral kids ffs. Her area and areas like hers used have all those services she complains about lacking, and do you know what happened? The services were either not used or they were abused, because those people are scum and they don't appreciate anything. Nothing is ever their fault, did she ever consider maybe that SHE should be looking after her own children? Of course not, govahnments job innit. Is it not enough that tax payers are funding her and her spawns entire jobless lives? We need to raise them all too do we?
"99% of england is not safe" ok love. I know her sort, she wants all the hand outs but isn't willing to do anything for it.
She’s clueless
So true.
I use to walk to school everyday through bell green, through wood end. It’s always been a 💩 hole. But not as bad as it is today. They actually redeveloped wood end years ago. And yet it’s still a hell hole. Glad I got out of Coventry too many gangsters. 😂👍
Good and bad everywhere though in my experience mind your manners and business and you'll plod on nicely 😁 Long Live the city of Ska 🇬🇧
i have to agree with that lady she is 100% spot on well said 👏 👍
You reckon tho ? I think in part shes right but on the other side what are people doing to better the community . I’ve been to much poorer countries and people will Graft from the moment they can till they die or physically can’t there’s so social security or benefits to fall back on . There might not be as many opportunities as 20 years ago but there’s a hella lot more than in most countries. Also a lot of kids over here couldn’t give two shits about education and then when they can only get low skilled jobs we say there’s nothing out there for people .
@user-lw9yc2ps5s yes you have a strong point also 🙏✅️
Coventry used to be a posh city like Eaton and Cambridge but everywhere is hurting now, its a shame.
In what year? I didn’t know it used to be a posh place
@@HavingaSHOCKER only certain parts were ever 'posh' even those started to decline in the 90s. Coventry as a whole was never posh it's been too industrial to have ever been posh. Our new neighbours and the rise of chavdom have put an end to it ever being remotely upper class or desirable.
@@Lisafer15every city has posh areas tho
not this centruy
Its been the same since the 90s when i was a youth@HavingaSHOCKER
Great documentary thanks
Glad you enjoyed it thankyou too
