Negativland's U2 single blew my mind! I was lucky enough to grab it on CD before it was pulled from shelves, after the lawsuits and controversy. They are seriously underrated. My own sound manipulation stuff is largely based on their work - they are a huge inspiration.

That dust up was such a big deal. Negativeland looked classier. Sounded great. "Timezones"(?)- love it.

I go for regular walks in nature, although it's very easy for me being out in the deep woods where I live. I find it necessary for mental health, especially in the last half a year or so with world events being what they are.

Been visiting US pretty frequently past 7-8 years and the thing that strikes me always so hard is the way so many American cities are built on driving. As a non-driving European, visiting your amazing cities, and trying to go places walking, I can totally relate to your experience of receiving weird looks. Whats weird to me is that quite often theres no one on the streets, except homeless people. Even in a massive megacity like LA theres so few pedestrians around its almost ghostly at times. I guess therefore the way of transportation/ getting around becomes a reflection of a persons social status. I just spent 4 weeks in Colorado & California, and had a great time, but the amount of cars & the intensity of the traffic in places like LA & Denver leaves me slightly shocked every single time. In my mind public transport is the way forward.
Anyways, that Negativlands album sounds real interesting. Gonna check it out. Been on a serious Stranglers trip here. What a great, diverse band.
Cheers Dereck. Wishing you a peaceful summer.

38 dollars for a single album? I love Beth Gibbons music, but I like to eat too. Silly money.

Hancock's Mwandishi band was incredible. Eddie Henderson's "Realization" has similar personnel & vibe. Great, great stuff.

There is a term called, "owning the libs". The idea is just to get you angered from some stupid talking point. Usually, those talking points are bunk. So that's a thing.

I know that. It's very juvenile and downright stupid.

Dereck, I had the fortune of seeing Herbie and the Headhunters in Tampa in 1999. They opened for Dave Matthew's Band. I walked out half way through D.M.B.'s set, as I was so blown away by the Headhunters. Maybe one of the best shows I ever witnessed.

The first Comus album is very unique. I used to have their 2nd album too, but sold it. Their 2nd has guest appearances from Lindsay Cooper (Henry Cow) and Bloomdido (Gong), but it didn't have the same magic as the first album, imo.

Another good recording of Conrad is Slapping Pythagoras produced by Steve Albini. It is also filled with his theoretical text in tiny letters though.
