The price of funerals are TOO DAMN HIGH
Yep it takes money to live it takes money to die
Life insurance is a thing..

Honestly for the GREAT COUNTRY we are, it's pathetic.
@@brendamills13 Haha those options are fine and dandy but in terms of a proper burial or even cremation, it's incredibly expensive (for my 12 lb mini dachshund I paid almost a grand) and not within everyone's means, that's just reality. However, I agree with you that "dumping a body" isn't 👍, but I'm sure it wasn't the first choice. Seems like an act of desperation 😢.
@@JF-wn2yb How is building a casket and taking them to a cemetery dumping a body? the fact they built him a casket and took him says a poor family just lost their Father/Grandfather and didn't have the money for a ceremony and plot.
Not everyone's religion finds the giving of one's body to science and research as an option. Actually my state has assistance for people who cannot afford a proper burial through each county. I'm not sure about a typical casket burial, but I know they do help people pay for cremation.
Maybe the family couldn’t afford a funeral and did the best they could given the circumstances. Someone took the time to make a coffin for his 5’10 350lb frame; seems like they cared about him. They clearly placed him in the most logical place instead of blatantly mishandling his remains. RIH, sir. 🙏🏾

In fact, I know there’s more people in my hometown city that couldn’t afford that than ones who could. I was scared to open the comment section but I was pleasantly surprised at everyone being so supportive to this family. True 😢
Right!? Same here
Agree. 🙏🏼
I agree too, and the family did the best they could and cared that he was given a casket and taken to a graveyard.
It does not sound like foul play. A homemade casket takes time and energy to build and his weight probably not easy to move. It probably a case of a friend or family member not being able to afford the funeral or burial or cremation and just hoping at least cemetery would give him burial spot.
RIP DECEASED PERSON 🙏
Can we regulate funerals? It’s disgusting what funeral homes charge. Completely sad at a time when families are at their lowest point!
Open a funeral parlor and see what you can do it for.

Based on your response to my comment, you fall into one of those two categories. Perhaps you would prefer to live in China under CCP dictatorship.
Give me a break you're not concerned about the relatives paying their respects you're worried about charging someone for illegally placing a casket without paying for the site!
🤫🤭🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That would be my best guess!!
I think the health risks posed to members of the community visiting the cemetery also probably play a part there. Whether that’s regulated or not I’m not sure.
Exactly my thoughts. I actually feel really bad for whoever did this because they've already lost someone they obviously cared about (you don't go thru all the hard work of building a casket, transporting it with a large, heavy person inside -which is why I think more than one person did this- and leave it at the cemetery and take those risks for someone you don't care for) and now when they find out who it was, they are going to be charged and I don't think that's right. Obviously we can't be having a ton of people doing this, but it really should tell people something. Funerals and even just cremations are super expensive and most states offer very little to zero financial help for funerals. It's sad. Instead of arresting this person, they need to find out how they can help them. Obviously there's a reason this was done. Maybe they're having really bad financial problems and could use some help. There might be more going on than we think. I really think this is a time to help, not hurt.
@@mckaylaaelisee what health risks? Dead bodies pose zero threat. Zero (unless the person had Ebola, that's about the only time a dead body would pose any sort of threat to people, animals or the environment). Death is a part off nature, nothing about it is a danger in ANY way. The smell would probably be the worst thing. And it might be unsettling for some people to see, but he's in a casket and can't even be seen. Obviously this isn't something that we should all do, but it poses no risk or danger. Maybe if the casket fell on someone while being moved, but that's about it. It's a very common belief that dead bodies pose a risk or threat, but they don't. If you'd like to know more, check out caitlin doughty on RUclips. She's a really cool, fun funeral home owner and author. Or Kari the mortician is good too. It should not be so expensive to bury people.

@@beverlybalius9303 that's what I will do. No need for anything else. Burn me put me in a dumpster...were they put my ashes is fine with me.
Even so direct cremation in some states is as cheap as $800 and if the family can’t afford you can apply for burial assistance.
I agreed
I’m actually surprised this doesn’t happen more often
I’m currently on hospice and when I looked at options for funerals I was stunned. Even a simple funeral was over $5k. I finally said forget this nonsense and got the basic cremation package which includes a basic urn and pickup from the facility and flowers to accompany the free shipping off the urn which cost a very reasonable $795. Sold !!
God bless you on your journey friend! May your days be filled with good memories and laughter. Insightful comment.
I couldn't believe how much they want for urns. I had my mom cremated, and wanted to get a nice wooden box for her. The funeral home wanted 400 bucks for a little wooden box. I looked online, and found the same exact box from a pet crematory for 45 dollars. Same size, same look for a fraction of the cost.
God bless you Chris, I hope you have an outstanding quality of life, right up to the end.
Chris, sending a prayer your way.
@@shezcrafty4416 Maybe I'll go that way for myself. I was going to make my own box now to be used in the future, allowing for weight gain!! :)
Is it eerie? The coffin and remains were likely not "dumped," but placed there out of respect for the deceased, hoping for a burial. A homemade casket is likely the result of not having the financial resources to pay for a commercial casket and burial services. Certainly laws suggest a crime has been committed since you can no longer bury your loved ones without paying money to the undertaker and the government, but the crime is not necessarily depraved.
Yes. I didn't like them saying ..dumped😡 like he was trash. They didn't have money to bury him. Dig a hole. They did most of the work..geesh. they cared enough about him to create something for him.
The state of Oregon does not force anyone to pay for someones burial if they can't afford it. There are always funds available from the state if you honestly cannot afford to pay.
my brother had passed In February, and he worked for a cabinet shop for 30 years in Texas, we asked the owner if he could build the casket to lay my brother to rest...it was absolutely beautiful...my brother loved his job And the people he worked for! it was such an honourable piece!
My Granny always said family should take care of its own from the cradle to the grave. I prepared both parents before their family and friends saw them I buried my mom myself and my sons who were adults when we lost Dad buried him. I taught my boys the same saying so when it’s my time they know what to do. My youngest recently buried his father who passed of cancer. Most cemeteries and funeral homes will allow families to do this if asked. They will hang out or be close by if you need assistance.
Blessings to you and yours for taking care of your brother.

With the price of the funeral business these days, they probably couldn't afford to have him buried. The mortuary business is big business because they aren't regulated and they always have new customers.
Perhaps but why didn't they just bury him then?
Nor do they care if you're poor. Not their problem 😖
My first thought too was this was expense related, I agree with your comment, Some funeral homes are corporate owned too, It doesn't nor should be so expensive. I encourage everyone to watch Caitlin Doughty's YT channel she shares great information about the funeral business, family rights, laws, cost.
I commented similar before reading the comment’s. So sad because it sounds like they cared and tried. So sad. We can’t even be laid to rest properly. I have cancer and our faith demands us to be buried but I know we can’t afford that so I’ll be cremated. I don’t want my loved ones worried about monies to bury me. I tried to see if I could make a payment plan now while I’m alive and it’s not allowed🥺💔
The main reason I will chose cremation.
People used to do this a lot in an abandoned cemetery in my area before it got cleaned up. But rather than dumping they would actually dig their own plot. Happens when low-income families can't afford a proper burial or cremation.
In a way, I wish the people could have kept doing that.
Dumped or placed there?? It sounds like they cared enough to try which makes a big difference IMO. Sad funerals are so expensive and so many can’t afford to bury there loved ones. My prayers for whomever this is and the family.

What a heartfelt way to give respect. Remember my father when I was a little guy as this is no comparison to this story. Our cat was hit by a car and my father made a wooden box and then with wood burning tool burned a beautiful rose on the cover and real rose by his head with some velvet inside. He was an incredible artist up until he died and left me with his unreal lifelike carvings. Would bet these people had best intentions with little means. Rip

The difference between a graveyard and a cemetery is that a graveyard is on hollowed ground ( associated with a church) and a cemetery is owned land, just in case anyone didn't know. My God bless his soul 🙏.
I did not know. Thank you!
As someone who years ago mowed cemeteries and graveyards..yes I did know this ..the word cemetery comes from the Greek word koimeterion meaning dormitory or resting place....most graveyards and cemeteries I know have a little area set aside somewhere on the grounds for a "potter's field" ...a place where the unclaimed the poor the criminals the strangers and so on are buried for free out of respect ..most have no stones to mark them ..they become a number on a map....a number is better than disappearing in to oblivion with no acknowledgement at all.
What I took away from that was “we need to find the family so we can figure out who to charge for the plot space to bury this guy in, cause ain’t nothin in life for free no matter how poor you are”. Anyone else hear what I heard?

Maybe the person who put him there, didn't have the money for a funeral and to be buried.
By the sounds of the body’s weight and size, I think everybody that needed to know he’s passed already knows! I hope if they identify who he is, that the community around him come together and help this family financially to give him the send off ‘society’ thinks he deserves. This could not have been easy on the family but going to the lengths of making a coffin shows great care and compassion for the dead

This probably was done because people can’t afford funerals these days…
To take the time to carry them deep inside right. They must of cared deeply. I pray for the family and if found they will not be charged a penny. Seems like the gentleman is at peace.
I hate how they keep saying he was “dumped”. He was obviously cared for, but living in a rural area, family probably didn’t have $10K+ to shell out to a funeral home. Sad.
It’s obvious that someone cared enough to give him some respect. God bless who did the best they could do 💔
The cost of burials is beyond the ability to pay by many.
There is no way one person was able to get a handmade coffin with a 350lb man inside of it to the cemetery! I weight like 175 and my husband who is a heafty man, he's not skinny but he's also not 350lbs he can barley keep me lifted off the ground for more than a couple mins at a time. It would take at least 4 people , the weight of the box also has to be considered, over 400 pounds, maybe take 5 or 6 to lift it.
@@deliajones9541 that's what I was thinking 🤔 definitely more than 2! Probably close to 4! I totally agree with you. This is just so crazy.
You’re all missing the point! What difference does it make regarding the number of persons needed to lift this heavy coffin! Seriously? This is similar to my plan. I'm going to make my own box for my cremated remains. Then I plan on sending my immediate family/spouses/grandchildren on a lovely vacation to a beautiful island on my dime. I have chosen the island and my kids know about my plan. At some time during the vacation everyone gathers on the beach, says whatever they want and scatters my ashes into the sea. I get what I want, they get a free vacation to a beautiful place and hopefully everyone is happy.
My Mom had a direct cremation it was 1,500$ this is the lowest cost of a Creamation that you can get. A burial is 3-4x this even more. If you don’t want cremation and can’t afford burial then what?
They force you to burn. I would try by ocean or lake myself. Feed the animals
Shameful that funeral costs push families to do this kind of thing.
This is the best people can afford when social security pays a death benefit of $255!
My elderly parents are constantly saying to us:

And they mean it.
Probably somebody who couldn't afford to bury their loved one when they passed. So sad.
350 pounds- 5 foot 10 plus the weight of the wood ? It would have taken a fork lift or ar least several people to accomplish moving the deceased. This sounds like a humain thought out premeditated burial plan. May the deceased RIP.
Funeral parlors everywhere need to come to this comment section. Even if you are cremated, the cost of a viewing at a funeral home is outrageous! when I die, just cremate me and nothing else just get on with your life. RIP to this man.

Yep. If you don’t have the funds to bury or cremate your silly self, don’t die. Be a self sufficient Adult.
I know this, the family must have done their best and just did not have the money to do any different. People are struggling day to day, and if you have no money to live, you certainly do not have money laying around to bury someone. It's way too expensive to have a funeral.
This is sad and doesn't seem malicious. I'm not big on socializing many things in America but can't we bury our loved ones and at least cut back on regulations for more affordable options? It seems like someone actually cared about this person to build the coffin/casket and place him in the cemetery. It's not like they thought he wouldn't be found as they left him. Condolences to his loved ones.
that's such a sad occurrence. I think it had to be a family that couldn't afford services and tried their own method.
Trust me, funeral costs and burial costs are insane. When my mother died, I had just turned 18 and had no other family to help bury her. Her grave still doesn't have a proper tombstone being I had to pay out of pocket and I'm still trying to save to get her one...
If this was foul play, why would a suspect take a body to a cemetary? That makes no sense. It's probably a family member who didn't have the money to bury their loved one with a proper funeral.
What a mystery? What an enigma. Dead man in a box in a dead park... Had be 2 ppl. The man was 350
Right? 350 lbs is a lot of weight to carry around a cemetery at night.
He either walked there or there are at least a half dozen people that know what happened.
Dead Park🤣
Outrageous that it costs thousands of dollars just to bury someone in the ground! Shame on this society!
Yes that's one of my worries. I took out a $2,000 life insurance policy for pay like $20 a month to hopefully take care of The Cremation but they're capitalizing on that making it more expensive so that may not even take care of it. After I leave I don't care what happens to my body we're not our bodies that's just decaying flesh the spirit gone. And your people aren't at the cemetery they have ascended to Nirvana or heaven, whatever you want to call it. God bless these people they're going to hunt them down until they find them and then they're going to slap them with fines and then they're going to slap them with bills that they can't afford for burial oh, because dying is big business in America big money. No dignity just dollars.

Depending on where you live and where you want to be buried, the costs of buying a grave and the cemetery's fee to open/close said grave, is as much as the funeral home's fees.

Years ago families made simple pine boxes as coffins. Now funerals are elaborate with unjustified high cost coffins and many charges for the services! If this family had no money to pay for a funeral they did what they could.
It sounds like the family might have done this, who knows, funerals are crazy expensive. What I paid for on my mom's funeral was absolutely insane.
This is not a crime.
The crime is the price of funerals.
The man got a burial by people who loved him enough to do by whatever means they could, the very best they could do. Maybe they couldn't afford a burial. I'm sure in years past, this isn't the first private ceremony given to a loved one, just between the family, the deceased, the Land, and God. It may be out of the ordinary, I salute this family. Thank you for doing the best you could. I wish you peace and God's blessings. ✨🕊✨
Maybe the could not afford a burial.
I think so too
That's what I feel as well they couldn't afford to bury their loved one.
May he RIP…🙏🏿… my Brother just passed last month and the cemetery alone was 7k (cheapest area of the cemetery btw). Prices are ridiculous.
Lawd, Folk didn't kill and have a casket ready for him too did they, then had the nerve to take him to the cemetery too. Dang, They played the part of the funeral home and the cemetery almost, bc, they didn't dig 6ft and put him in it. Smh, Lawd have mercy🥺
Possibly no family and or money for a funeral and depending on the kindness of the county. I must say the headstones and markers seen in this video are most unique. I hope you can help lay this man to rest.
It's so sad that his loved ones couldn't afford to give him a better funeral. Funeral services should be free, or with assisted payment for people struggling. A lot of people struggling might not be able to afford one. Everyone deserves a proper rest and burial. Also to the comments saying "just donate it to science" not everyone's religion allows that, and some people or families don't want that to happen.
Who ever did it , at least they did the best they could and didn't leave the remains dumped in a lot somewhere!
They did the best they could and for that they get my respect 👏.
R.I.P. Sir
🛐
This is gonna be a doozy.
Ok is it a homemade casket or coffin? They are different…
Good question.
The report said it was home made , of 2 by 4 wood ( planks of wood). So not a proper coffin
The distinction is irrelevant here…..the story itself is at issue…..anyway the video stated that it was a homemade box!
As a former funeral industry worker, I highly recommend "Ask A Mortician"'s video on obesity and its impact on final expenses and the funeral industry as a whole. A 350-lb person would require twice the plot size and casket, and while cremation is a cheaper option for most, it's a much more complicated and therefore more expensive option than for those half his size. I wonder if this man died from COVID at home? If they identify him, will his family be charged? Does Oregon have a pauper's cemetery? Edited to add: Oregon has recently expanded it's natural burial laws, which may make for more affordable for everyone while also being less environmentally damaging.
I'm glad someone mentioned Ask A Mortician. An excellent channel run by a compassionate and respected woman. Cheers to Caitlin.
I had said the exact same thing as I was watching this as everyone else has said-that they cared enuf to make a coffin for him and putting in a cemetery- it's not that they didn't care like the media is trying to portray&said, I seriously doubt that was the case....I thought to myself I bet somebody else in the comments has said the same thing and almost literally all the comments are saying the same thing because it's unaffordable to bury a loved one nowadays!
If you can't figure out why this was done then you have never been poor and had to pay for a funeral
Amen!
Sounds like an episode of Grimm. Creepy.
The cop says the box was "dumped" even the journalists didn't describe the situation like that.
Well, legally it is dumping to leave it there. I think that's what she meant.
Moving a 350 lb man plus the weight of the casket must have been quite an ordeal requiring at least 3 or 4 people
Ok so hear me out… what if the man made the box and placed it where he wanted to be found and buried. Then he got in and took an overdose of medicine so he would die…stranger things have happened. Maybe he don’t have family or he didn’t want them to be the one to find him. I’m just thinking outside the box… 👀🥴
Those are a lot of ifs and where did he put his car?
How did he get the box to the cemetery? No truck found.
Possible.
Maybe he dropped off the casket got back in the car and drove it up the street and walked back to the cemetery. Just a thought who knows🤷🏼♀️it is an usual case.
@@marwatson7408 What reason would he have to do that?
I wish you would show pictures of it because I might actually know where that came from not the body but the coffin before my grandfather passed away he built one and it was in my grandparents garage and had been for years then it's missing
It was a casket, not a coffin.
I wonder if he was a veteran. When my uncle passed, my foreign-born aunt had no idea he was eligible for a military burial and was in a state trying to figure how to come up with the money for a funeral. It's not something everyone is aware of.
The real crime is the high cost of funeral expenses. They should arrest mortuaries who charge out of this earth prices.
Did everyone see how the Sheriff lady was smiling at first like it was funny?
