First of season birds are henned up still gobble good but tough. During this time hens will often lead them away. The lockdown period you described is miserable. They are spending the all day with the hens and flying up with them at night. They won’t even limb gobble at daylight making you wonder if their still alive.

This whole season in South East VA has felt like lock down 😂 very strange birds this year, almost can't even get one to respond to a call to get them fired up and work with you. Most days are less than five gobbles then silence.

Last few years I’ve had better success during the lockdown than late season. Little bit of roost gobbling, 4-5 hours of silence then a gobble somewhere in hearing range and I move to him and it’s on!
The last 3 late seasons have been quiet here except a few roost gobbles.
    Great video Matt

This will be my 5th year turkey hunting, my dad had my brother out one week before for the youth weekend he told me how vocal and active they were and it was overall great. One week later I was out for opening week at the exact same property they were and that entire week it was dead silent. Honestly it's frustrating but I'm glad to know that it's not just me being a bad hunter lol

Ya know Pennsylvania season starts this Saturday. Basically in lockdown. Not gonna make excuses because we’ve got many close encounters since I got my son hunting turkeys. We get better every season and braver thanks to your knowledge shared.

It was nice knowing her 🤣 wish I would have listened a lil faster....lol...have a good one bud

I have noticed this in N.Y right after the Opener, all is quiet on the "Eastern Front" but right around the end of the second week into the 3rd, the action really heats up, especially like Dale says, about those big Old Dominant Toms, get lonely. I called in a 21.5 lb. Tom for my daughter, last year on 5/27 in N.Y. He was alone, and came a long way, made my daughters day ! Happy Hunting in N.Y !

They haven't gobbled all season by me here in Central Missouri. I've hunted 14 days at least, and I've seen a mess of turkey on the area. They just won't gobble. It's frustrating hunting turkey deer hunting style, ugh.
