I understand what he meant when he said the ice bathing can help heal our depression and "awaken us to the world". I used to work 2 jobs just earning a good living but was not happy, felt like I'm going through life like an empty shell, not really connected to the world around me. Then one day my friend wanted to go rafting on a river and our raft flip over and I drop in the cold water and could have drown. Then after struggling to get out of the freezing water and making back safely on land, I experience a spiritual awakening. I have never felt so alive. I realize I'm wasting my life away slaving away for riches. So I quit both my jobs and took a year off to explore the world around me, did lots of fishing, camping, and road trips. Now I live a minimalist life style which can afford me more free time to enjoy life because I don't need to earn a lot of money.

When I feel depression I do not feel the world owns me anything, that's not depression, that's just being immature and entitled.
Depression may be caused by biological reasons ,in my family is a genetical thing, our brains do not produce properly serotonine. We end up requiring medication to get back ourselves.
When depressed I feel empty. I can pretend otherwise, to do not make others worry around me, but inside I feel like a void.
If I feel anger is not against others, is against myself. I do not feel pity about myself because pity means you feel some empathy, what I feel is that I should not be living, to stop being a burden for my family, I do not want them to suffer because I think I am a waste of human being, I rather dissapear totally, but I know that will make them suffer even worse.
Having the medication, working out in the gym, swimming, sleeping properly, winter, eating balanced, all those things give me the serotonine I need, made my thoughts clear because my brain begins to work properly.

It's true, living WITH the cold just makes you hearty and strong.
Where I live, it freezes from October to May, and from the ages of 13-16, my family's only source of heat was a cheap , defective wood stove. It took constant tending all day to get into the burn zone, and by then it was evening, and it would completely die out overnight if not tended every few hours. Every 3 days, it filled up with ash and the fire had to be let to die out so it could be cleaned and emptied.
Between this, and the poor quality of our 50 year old double ( also it's wide with it's cavernous living space and long skinny hallways ) the thermometer in our living room showed an average 45° , and a couple times the glass of water besides our bed would have a thin sheet of ice on it in the mornings.
Thing is, though, it makes you tough.
We almost never got sick, not even coughs or light colds.
Half the year, we were just cold all the time, living in layers of clothes indoors, but continuing to function.
I was aware even then of videos like this, and I tried to embrace my circumstances by sleeping with my window cracked and using only one small blanket at night, only getting up to pull on my quilt if I dreamt I was being snowed on.
It had it up sides and benefits.
Now, I live in a house with a furnace, and my husband and I use it regularly. I noticed myself getting chilled at temperatures I used to find " pleasant, and warm " , and I often have lingering colds and sniffles... It seems basic comforts come often accompanied by a general softening of one's constitution... :(
Ah well, I enjoy being warm though 😅🤷‍♀️😶

The benefits of showering with cold water is that it enhances the work of the circulatory system by increasing blood flow to all parts of the body, which will positively affect the health of the heart and even the skin. Bathing in cold water also helps reduce high blood pressure and improves the ability of the immune system and its role in preventing diseases

    • @ArtemLokhovitskiy
      @ArtemLokhovitskiy 2 года назад +8

I think the trick is this:
When warm body leaves water which is almost 0°C the vapor surrounding human skin acts like insulator of some sort. That prevents the skin from freezing instantly.
The opposite effect can be seen in videos where people swing their arms through a flow of melting metal. Moisture from skin boils instantly and super thin layer of vapor acts like insulator and prevents entire hand from burning. It's all ok when it takes a second, though. :)

Water does wonders...I don't know the thermodynamics but from swimming in the cold ocean I attest that the blood vessels constrict and send refined blood throughout the body it literally feels like fire when you get out the wind can blow but there is warmth all round, these guys do it during the day, I've tried day time which hurts for some reason but night time just releases something primordial, you can feel it from the gut it's like a life preserving liquid combined with adrenaline and a splash of dopamine essentially all feel good hormones are released at once, I know it for a fact because of years of strict study, not many can know the difference between serotonin and oxytocin or adrenaline and endorphins the way we're distracted mixes them all up, but my theory is that the cold effects the hippocampus and Thalamus if you look at an extracted one or crossection it looks like a seahorse, it's just my theory that it's the region that feels the freeze and after getting out of the water it feels like you have a new brain, new eyes, new senses, because of the dark suddenly you can see because the pupils are extra dilated...if you've ever had a DMT experience the winter water swim is like a snippet...I wouldn't advise anyone to do it but we all need to make our way back to nature learning to cope with cold is a great survival skill and it actually helps with extreme heat because you learn how to properly breathe...we need reconnect with the primordial if we don't, Nature will surely make her way to us. Water is sacred it's like it doesn't matter how many cold showers or baths, there's something about diving into a natural source I believe it's minerals that are preserving these godmen from frostbite, I would do that bath only if there's a sauna -50 my freezer only goes to -27 lol... But even with water alone, we need mountain minerals to detox our blood, I also believe that this cold dipping rinses toxins out, when the body is rid of toxicity it celebrates, that's why infants are in paradise, they're not exposing themselves to as many toxins as adults are. I contrast these cold dipping traditions to saunas, I'll never forget my first essential oil experience in a sauna...this therapist walked in asked if we minded some eucalyptus spearmint...Nope go ahead! He dropped a generous amount and splashed half the bucket on the hot rocks, we're looking at each other like this dude is crazy after 20 minutes I got out cooled down took a shower and was in a complete state of bliss...weed couldn't even match this state of pure relaxation. It was the best sleep.

In USSR this walrus movement started massive expansion since at least 1924, (as part of Healing Fitness practices) with a lot of statesmans, army leaders etc included. I think in every city we have some enthusiasts of those exercises.
But -50 is impressive for sure.

I'm on my 10th day doing this. It gets easier. Your skin burns/tingles when you get out like jumping from snow into a hot tub.

@@orgestplako8492 830 every morning. A river nearby. 2 degrees Celsius. Shorts only for me, sometimes a toque as it was -3 outside this morning. We live in the mountains so snow run off feeds the river. I walk in waist deep, give myself about 30 seconds to mentally adjust to temperature then I go down to my ear lobes and hold. Sometimes the more sensitive skin around the neck can get very painful so I may come out for a moment for the body to adjust, under a minute. Then always better when going back in. Holding your head under if not trained can cause severe pain. I do it 4 times quickly just under and out and I save it until I am ready to exit. We do it with some indigenous so we pray and thank the creator and also ask mother nature’s blood to heal any ailments. It’s very special. Our group is growing.

I do ice baths too, the only difference is that here in my country, the temperature outside usually is between +2 to -7 degrees Celcius at most, watching this makes my baths feel warm in comparison (yeah I know the water is the same temperature, but the air outside can make a huge difference too).

lower than -10° is not such a big different to feel, but really cold is exactly therefor risky, because you do not feel frostbite coming. Your next person only may see it.
