We’ve visited Leo’s farm twice and he’s is very generous with his time and knowledge. It’s a beautiful property and the plants are very well cared for. The cuttings I bought from them are very healthy and thriving.
Thank you for this educational and enjoyable video. I learned a lot and took a lot of notes. I’m a novice back yard gardener who hopes to someday create an orchard of many exotic and tropical fruit trees. I’m very new to dragon fruit growing, and your video helped me a lot. I’m forever grateful. Be blessed🙏🦋.
I'm in the western part of Fallbrook and I'm just learning so much from your videos. Thank you. Been growing Avocados for years and the amount of water is killing me. I've become obsessed with dragonfruit from a few Physical Graffiti cuttings a friend gave me. Can't wait to visit the farm!

Love it !!! So many varieties...... Dragon fruit growing is just started in India ..I don't know why they realized it so late because climate and soil is so good for dragon fruit in India ...south India to north India differs but over all good ....if you guys are curious just search in RUclips "dragon fruit telugu" you will see bunch of videos ..you will see they use cement poles and rings etc one time huge investment to make the plants last for 30years... The market exponentially growing in India ....!!! They plant 500 poles per acre ..that means 2000 plants per acre ...yeilding 5ton to 10ton after 3 years old plant per acre !!!
@@RAREDRAGONFRUIT thanks :) ..just did pvc pipe for now .3 cuttings..planted a cutting not rooted ..hardly 2feet..so far I can't see nothing..I know I have to wait ..but I check every day 😀😀
Amazing farm. I have learnt a lot from this video like take cuttings from bottom with dark green, and have to get more varieties. Trellis are so diverse and easy to do. What kind of wood did he use to make trellis? For the container pot, did he cut of the bottom or simply insert T-post thru the bottom of the pot? Can I take cuttings and grow this month, or it is getting colder now and should wait for next May? One the best videos on DF for sure. Thanks Guys!
Thanks for the kind words. He uses regular lumbar from Lowes or Home Depot. He doesn't like pressure treated wood. I take cuttings all year long but use a heating pad when the weather gets cold. Cuttings need to be rooted by the middle of October in my experience for optimal winter growth.
They have a tool designed to do it. I use a sledge hammer, but this is the tool that works much better. www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/countyline-t-post-pounder
Bud and Bloom was one. I think he was talking about this. www.groworganic.com/products/dr-earth-budblm-bster-394-50-lb?variant=21543500972145¤cy=USD&msclkid=7626b862d2781cbfdd99d8d05754da71
I'm confused by Leo's description of his watering. He says each pot gets 0.45 gallons of water (rounds up to a half gallon) in 5 minutes. He then says he gives them two five minute watering cycles per week when it is hot out, and one ten minute watering cycle per week when it is not hot out. That is the same amount of water per week regardless of season. I get that the soil mix drains fast and will dry out faster in the heat... but I'm still not understanding how getting the pot half as wet during a summer water cycle makes sense. What am I not comprehending? I'm in the desert where it hits 115F, so this might be vital info for my plants.
I talked with him off camera and I think he meant to say 10 minutes per month when the plants are dormant or when its cold. We both water them very little on the off season. A few farms in San Diego that I visit water their plants on drip and they receive 1-2 gallons per week on drip. I hope this helps. Let me know if you need more information.
There are non-toxic natural insecticides, I use something called Saf-Soap on aphids that attack my Apple tree. Boric acid powder and sugar does not work for me.

This is such a conscious grower!
Yes sir! I learned a lot from Leonardo.

Great video
Thanks!
Why are you growing them in containers and not directly in the ground? Just curious. Your DF farm is amazing and beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks. We grow them in pots our here because the gophers are so bad!
Thanks for answering. 🙏🏽
Are you selling any cuttings?
Excellent information! Thanks and happy growing!

Thank you for sharing! I will plant my dragon and try your method since my dragon always flowers but hardly becoming fruit.
Awesome! Try getting a Sugar Dragon to use as a pollen source.
@@RAREDRAGONFRUIT, I have not seen a sugar dragon yet in orange county.

@@RAREDRAGONFRUIT I assume you grow root cutting in soil not water. I am trying to grow them in water now - keep them in a bucket inside the house.
amazing perfect beautiful farming ideas brother
Many many thanks
Can I know which kind of manner are to be use to grow it healthy? Please.
Some use cow or chicken manure that has been composted. I like to use earthworm castings.
The Pitahaya red Leonard Is very beautiful 🔥.
I agree and have a trellis of my own :)
Thanks. the set up is very cool.

Wondering how to “pound” the green u-shaped things into the ground, when making the new trellis design?

Ive read they only flower at night? Ive seen videos of people polinating with headlamps on.
Here they are flowering in day light..😮
Hi what is the best plant if some one tria to start gis growing dragon fruit thanks..
American Beauty, Sugar Dragon, and Robles Red are good plants that are self fertile.
Muy bien organizado el plantio . Saludos.

Hello sir ❤️
Love from Bangladesh ♥️🇧🇩🇧🇩
One question?
What size is nursery pot
Hi! 15 to 20 gallon pots and I drill extra holes for the roots to go into the ground.

¿porque no las plantan en el suelo? Yo creo que seria mejor. Saludos desde Mexico.

Is this the farm you can see on the 15 going towards Temecula?
no. It's off the 76, but close to the 15.
There are a few to see along the 15. We need to visit some more farms, thanks for watching.
