In this video, I share 3 practical tools you can use to research a company before going in for an interview. The three tools are all free to use but are rarely used by candidates when they research a company for an interview - super weird!
The first interview research tool I share is Google Alerts. It’s a simple application that just takes a few minutes to set up and will continue to run automatically. Think of it as a personal research assistant that updates you whenever your target company is mentioned in the news or in popular blog posts.
The second interview research tool to use when researching a company for an interview is Google Trends. This useful little product shows you user interest for the term you’re searching for and can provide very useful insights for you to bring up during the interview.
The third interview research tool is the Vault Career Library. While the premium version is accessible mainly to current college students, the free resources they provide include company research worksheets, industry research analyses, and job interview reviews.
So the next time you research a company before the job interview, make sure to spend some time with these 3 tools and make a strong impression on the interviewer!

My guess on your post was close! 😂
@@livialone3199 Yes it was! Google analytics is mainly used by businesses though 😛
So grateful to have found your videos, Jeff. Since the first one, I've been hooked and use them again and again for each role I apply to to help walk me through all the steps. The cover letter video and this video are my most frequent repeat visits. Thank you for taking the time to create professional content that has good meat to it. I am praying for another success story for you through me soon.
Woohooo that's what I love to hear. Best of luck!! 😁
Jeff, since you've been my go-to channel from the beginning. I wanna let you know I have an interview tomorrow! Thanks for the coaching tips!
Oh WOW, congrats Mark! That's amazing, I'm glad I was able to contribute a tiny bit to your success! Please do let me know how it goes!
I stumbled upon your cover letter and resume videos and I've been hooked since then. Binge-watching and sharing these terrific tips everywhere.
Glad to hear it! Best of luck in your job search 😁
I cannot believe I didn't think of Google Alerts. I love you.
Glad you found this helpful Nate!!
Great video Jeff. Useful, concise and high quality!
Thank you very much Narendra! Glad you're finding the content helpful!!
I have to say this, your thumbail is asthetically pleasing
Thank you my friend 😁
Great video -- love that you offer practical steps instead of abstract advice! Also note -- starting around the 0:35 second mark it looks like the closed captions are slightly off
Thanks so much for the comment Angela! Oh wow thanks for letting me know about the Closed Captions - I think there's been a bug recently for my channel. Will try to get it fixed!
Great advice!
Not just for the job search, but while working as an employee too. Keeping your finger on the pulse of your company is a great idea to be a leading employee who is advancing the company’s goals.
Yes for sure!! Thanks for the additional input 😁
Thanks for your super informative videos, Jeff! I think I've watched all, if not most of it. I like the format, unique insights and your enthusiasm! I'd actually interviewed with Google recently (2 rounds through video), but unfortunately was subsequently informed that the headcount for that role is to be moved to another country 💔
Hi Melsa, first of all, huge congrats on making it through 2 rounds! If you search up the % of people who make it that far, you'll see it's a pretty low percentage, so chin up! I'm sure you had learnings from your experiences and more and more opportunities will be presented to you!
Thank you also for your kind words, I really hope this content is helping people who might be having a tough time in the job market right now, and your support means a lot more than you might think for a small creator like myself :)
@@JeffSu Thank you for your reply and encouragement! Your videos have certainly been of massive help to me and I believe for many others as well. Continue making awesome vids!
@@twerpyducks Will do! Look forward to hearing more about your journey moving forward as well :)
Way more helpful than all the other 4 videos I watched
Thanks so much for letting me know Sanderson! Appreciate the comment and hope you were able to get some research done for the companies you're interviewing for!
Nice one Jeff! Really loving the editing on the recent vids
Thanks Sharan! I've honestly been taking inspiration from some of Ali's recent videos as well, but I don't even think he's editing his own videos anymore hah.
Awesome video Jeff! 👌🏻 Meantime, have a great one. 😀👍🏻
Hahahaha thank you Pankaj! After reading your comment I'm having an AMAZING one 😁
Invaluable information.
Thank you!!
this deserves to be 1m views
Could you please tell RUclips that? Because I think so too :)
agreed, so so useful
Practical and useful! Thanks for sharing~
Thanks Elaine! Will continue to try pushing out useful content 😁
I really like this, thanks for sharing, I will have an interview on this Friday, I will use this video to prepare.
Best of luck! Let me know how it goes!
If the company is a public company, it’s annual report is also a great place to get the basic information
That's a great point Fiona, thanks for sharing!!
That is so true! Nobody properly tells us
I know right??
Super helpful
Woohoo!
awesome!
Thanks Chris!
I've been comparing payment processing companies like Moneris, Paypal, and Stripe inc. Reaped some interesting results!
Like what? Now I'm curious haha
Hey Jeff;
Love, looove, your irony and selfdistans jokes.
Would be great if you gave examples of other tools or alternatives to the tools from Google. Especially since your working there.. :-)
Check out my job search and interview playlists 😁
I just use the "wing it" special move. Throw in some random jokes to get hired... I am unemployed...🥴
Absolute *G* *O* *L* *D*
Thank you.
But not a 💎? Just kidding thank you 😁😁
Jeff these thumbnails are getting out of hand! Thanks for the tips -- setting up Google Alerts right now!
Thanks James! Took me a while to get the hologram right, I should just go be a graphic designer now :P. Let me know how Google Alerts goes for you!
Google and tesla should give u sponsorship lol
I know right?!
I like your videos, they are very informative, but I believe that you tend to overcomplicate simple things that can be done in a more practical way, anyway thanks for sharing your insights
Thanks for the feedback! Could I trouble you to expand on your answer?
@@JeffSusure! Well I will relate to this video, but it also extends to all the other ones. Let's start by saying that I am not an expert in communication, recruiting or whatever, I just love learning so I read and study stuff from multiple sources, and I watch videos from multiple channels so I compare you to the other sources I use to read or watch.
When it comes to this video by discussing point 1 and 2, by using Google Alerts to me is superfluous, let's suppose you have 20-30 preferred companies you'd like to work for, so you set the alert for all of these companiese and you receive information everyday for all of these companies, it is a ton of information that can only confuse you, right? Furthermore everytime you complete an application you cannot know which company will call you, it is uncertain, so setting an alert that gives you info about company x and company x never calls you is useless, I repeat it just confuses you, and if company x instead calls you I can guarantee you that you will never remember what type of notification about that company Google Alerts sent you, because again it's a ton of information that you are receiving.
By regarding to point 2 I believe this thing can be done in a very simple way, I mean just write the name of the company on Google or whatever and look for the section "About us", "Who we are", "Our mission", every company has these sections, read this paragraph carefully and try to find something that can be related to your personality and that you like about the company, the same is for the role, carefully read the job description and find something that relates to you.
Recruiters are people who do not know anything about technical stuff, they just get indications from the hiring managers, so discussing with them about quarterly earnings or google trends to gauge the products demand is pointless because they do not understand it, maybe the hiring manager understands it, but he does not care about these stuff, the hiring manager just wants to understand if you fit inside his team, so a brief contextual and to the point answer is ok, there is no need to do all this deep research, in the end the risk of being rejected during a job interview is way way higher of the benefit of being accepted, so if you fill your brain and your mind with all these informations you risk to get confused and make mistakes during the interview.
In conclusion, about this video, I say: carefully reading the job description and the section about the culture and the mission on the company's website is enough
This video is very interesting, you shared very valuable strategies that will help us alot to stand out during an interview.
Woohooo thank you 😁
Jeff is very cute
Thanks! I think so too 😉
Pretty sure this video is not sponsored by Google, but you sure it's not sponsored by Tesla? HAHAHA
Perhaps 😏, nah I wish
@@JeffSu I’m here to rewatch it to get inspirations, and possibly I’ll ask about Porsche Taycan V.S. new Tesla interior design tomorrow at Tesla’s interview 😅🤣
@@Christiana-J Good luck!

I just use the "wing it" special move. Throw in some random jokes to get hired... I am unemployed...🥴
