3:38!! such a genius move- the top A is played on the same note as the previous note E but on harmonics... no more sliding arpeggios! This is probably what Bach intended to sound like on a cello piccolo or da spalla. Bravo!
Wonderful interpretation, as always. Music lives, breathes, it touches my heart, my soul. I feel a very great sensitivity. I love that ! Bravissimo Santiago
I like how you were re-thinking the 'usual' interpretation, bringing the world a wonderful fresh view on the same Urtext. And masterly played! Thank you.
I now truly have years of study. These 6 suites are the foundation of my love for Cello. Obvious maybe to many but a "true" experience to live through ... and maybe the only thing that one may take with oneself when the time comes ... The simple thought of hearing this music for eternity brings me to tears.
I love your approach. Your beautiful lines, varied dynamics and clear harmonic progressions bring out the full depth of the music. I think Bach would have loved it. Thank you for sharing this with us. Your playing is a gift.
La 6ª suite transcendiedo límites ,nos brinda alas hacea la pura alegría,una verdadera ofrenda para los tiempos que corren.Gracias Santiago las seis suites han sido una hermosa celebración.
I'm really in love with your style bringing these old compositions to life. Wonderful magnetic and warm sound and at the same time so clearly pronounced - breathing - singing - dancing . Totally concentrated but also totally in flow - magic ;))) Absolutely my favourite Cellist at the moment. Thanks a lot for sharing these wonderfully interpreted suites- love it♡♡♡
GRACIAS.
Santi please make a record of Bach Suites… you added dimensions and nuances, besides it’s a more morden interpretation… I cannot wait to buy your record…. ❤️
Musical, skilled ... and always elegant is your performance. You are well on your path to a successful musical career. My very best for it. And thank you for letting us be part of this exciting and superb "Bach During Lockdown" project of yours. Hello from Canada, Karin
You are definitely my favourite cellist! I've heard many recordings by others like Du Pre, Rostropvich, Isserlis, Thedeen, Kanneh-Mason .... but for me you are at the top of the list! Such energy, passion and finesse in your playing. Thanks for playing this and recording this for us! All the best! :)
Would it be acceptable to ask how you record these performances? I am struggling getting good results from a single condenser mic, and perhaps there are some tricks? Goes without saying I am loving the performance! Thanks!
Can I ask if you have or suggest an edition of the Cello Suites that follow your (or a good start) fingerings. I'm an autodidact so it could really come in useful :)

Bar 85, the sixteenth notes... Never would have thought of that fingering 😳
Because of your concept of what baroque playing is "supposed" to be, you completely detach yourself from the rhythmic integrity of each movement. It's like you are trying to show the listener all the pieces instead of just letting them exist and playing the music.
The best cellist ever…

I just commented the same thing!
Tortelier does the same here too.
00:00 Prelude

10:35 Courante
13:12 Sarabande
16:25 Gavotte
