Emmaus started in France in 1949 in response to the housing shortage experienced by many people following World War II. Now a global movement, every Emmaus is tailored to the needs of the country it works in. In the UK Emmaus Oxford is one of 29 communities providing accommodation and support to homeless and socially excluded people.
