First time being this early. I’m a huge fan. Since I live in Seoul, S. Korea, Hummer vehicles are extremely rare, well, almost extinct here. So thanks for this upload 👍🏻
Not exactly like they’re everywhere in America either. Especially a real humvee. I have driven one on a freeway and on the streets numerous times when I was in the army. I promise you it’s far from special. They are the most uncomfortable, terrible to drive vehicles ever !!! Sharp edges and metal everywhere. Everything is hard and metal.
Hi, you can put the issued tire iron in that hole on the hub with a snatch rope on it. Attach the other side of the rope to a tree or something and the that’s how it works as a winch. I’ve been stuck in quick sand and used the rope attached to another truck to winch myself out.
Since the tires are rotational mass the effects of reduced weight are way more than just the absolute weight difference, so that 30lb/tire reduction is significant! Also any thoughts on safeguarding the drive select so it doesn't accidentally get slapped down to reverse while you're moving?
Whats odd to me, was an experiment I did with my 95 hummer. My 12 bolts with runflats and MT tires are 165 each (oof!) I put on a set of aluminum rim and hiway tread tires from a friends pickup that was 0.25” shorter measured on the truck so sidewall flex was accounted for. Chalk tested tread so it was optimal like my tires were. I saw zero gain in mpg or the 0-60 time. Ran two tanks of fuel to get descent comparison. The 6.5 diesel does get way worse mpg in hummer than pickups- so maybe already over taxed engine just couldn’t benifit at that level of gearing. Weight is not any more than my k3500 with 6.5 was, actually a hair less. Another Hummer anomaly? Haha

I was happy to see you ordered 5 wheels and tires enabling you to have a spare. We all saw what you did to that Rivian tire. :D Awesome build project and way different than watching you mouse-proof a cabin. Cheers man!!
This makes me feel like the old days before DVR, on Demand or Streaming, when you had to watch your TV show when it aired. Yes I know I can watch this anytime, but every episode ends with a Cliff hanger and I can wait to see the next. I watch as soon as I can after you publish. This is the most interesting show on any platform.
Very cool. I love your choice of tires and am fascinated by your whole rebuild. I had wanted to do the same with my old 1971 Series IIA Land Rover, but c'est la guerre. THanks for sharing your adventure!
8:58 you will notice that the new tires have thin hairline grooves across all the tread blocks... these are 'sips' , they specifically help with grip in the snow because they 'grab' onto the snow, relying on the friction within snow for grip, instead of between the rubber and the snow
Random thought about the Tesla's not including a spare- My Dad' Model 3 picks up nails like a magnet. He's needed 6 new tires in 2.5 years of ownership, because the stock whels have sound insulation inside that makes it impossible to plug.
@@Nevir202 Their is a foam insulation mated to the rubber on the back side of the tread. I assume that makes it contract around a plug differently, because we tried mutiple times to no avail.
I'm most excited to see it painted, I'd love for everything to be recoated in sand (color) but my ocd will be happy regardless so long as everything has a consistent color
Don't use a knife or cutters to remove the leftover tab of the zip tie. Use a set of pliers, lineman pliers work great, and twist the end till it snaps off. It leave a smooth edge and won't cut you. Helpful tip from someone who has had a few run ins with sharp ends
Thought I’d put my 2cents in on the oil plug. The magnet is not designed to hold the metal filings in place so it doesn’t “rattle” around in the gear box, it’s designed to stop the metal filings from going in between the teeth of the cogs thus prevents rapid wear
I've actually watched every minute of the Humvee series - a first on RUclips and I want more... 😍 Well done Zack! I wonder what I'll do when this project is done 😂
It's been almost a month since this last video about the HUMM EV you posted. I hope nothing went wrong 🙏🏻 and i hope it's finished soon cz we're so excited about this 🙌🏻
Man the details you put in - after you mentioned the gearbox, i immediatly thought "hopefully he'll add a heatsink on it, with THIS amount of torque he might need it" - and there you are, mounting showing the heatsink... btw i'd choosen the same tyres, but painted the spikes the same color as the humvee (to make them look a "little more original")
Damn 2 seconds bro. Absolutely love the vids, said it once ill say it ugain thank you so much for allowing us to take this journey with you. LOVE THE HUMMER! CANT WAIT TO SEE IT AT THE END!
I work as an engineer for Cooper Tire (now a Goodyear brand) who makes the Mickey Thompson’s he is using. I just had a girl hit my front driver side tire, a Mickey Thompson, and the tire is still fine. Granted she killed the tie rods and bearings on an F250, but the tire was fine despite taking the whole impact and shredding her passenger quarter panel. He’s got some good tires on there. I trust my life with those things any day.
Would be a good idea to add a breather pipe and filter up high for the torquebox to prevent it taking in water when you are driving through deep puddles.
@@littlejackalo5326 No they are not, you clearly have no idea what you are talking about. Go to 10 4x4 shops and ask for a snorkel, see what they come up with.
Can't wait to see this on the road! Nice tires and wheels, btw! I saw that episode where Westen was trying to drive his Hummer back across country.🤣 If it weren't for the crappy tires, he may have made it!!😆
I totally understand trying to reduce the unsprung weight by using alloy wheels but the strength of the military grade wheels along with thier versatility by being a multi-piece design allowing the tires on the wheels to be changed anywhere with simple tools make up for the weight in my opinion.
While the car is still relatively empty, you should take it to the body shop and get it restored properly, de-rusted and have some fresh paint over it and stuff, you'll regret not doing it and when you'll decide that it would be cool to do, you'll have to remove all the stuff that's already in it
Your wheel selection couldn’t have been better. I really dislike the trend of having huge rims with low profile tires. I prefer the rugged look of smaller rims and thick tires. The all matte black makes the wheels look perfect.
I ultimately want him to drive this thing and show the whole world he did it. And take it all apart and do a 100% restoration! I want this project to be a full restoration!
I bought M+S ❄️(mud and snow) tires for my car in the fall. They are a popular brand but after the first snow fall I had to buy winter tires as the all season M+S were terrible on ice or even a little snow. The tires he has on the hummer should be fine with rugged grip and a heavy vehicle but I doubt the rubber will be soft in cold weather.
Damn that’s crazy it looks like an electric military humvee or something, most people would probably disagree but that’s what it looks like to me and I have a unique eye for things.
Wow, you really opened my eyes.... I thought something was odd about it but I couldn't figure it out.... UNTILL you came in to my life. You sir are the Saint of all saints. You have really saved my life ❤️
You forgot the blinker fluid which is a must. Without this no car can run, electric or ICE. Also remember to fill your tyres with winter air in winter for optimal performance and long durability.
The tie-dye a point on the rear tire is used for when they transfer the Humvee underneath a helicopter or when they’re tying it down on a transport aircraft in the military my dad used to be in the Air Force and was on the same Air Force Base that chinooks were on and that he saw them practicing doing this all the time so this is how I know this. It’s a really cool feature if they’re good for helping pull you out of deep situation
I've been following this transformation and I must really congratulate you Zack. The rims and tires are spot on! Can't wait to see some off road footage, or maybe some smartphone durability test under those bad boys ;)
I'm a volunteer first responder, I love what you're doing to the HMMWV, I gotta ask - Will you be labeling this as an EV so any emergency responders know to watch for high voltage hazards? I have faith in you, I have faith in the structural integrity of the HMMWV, but people will prove the necessity of the consideration.
Good point. He should route the power cables through an accessible cut point immediately off the battery pack so that EMS can cut the battery off from the rest of the wiring, devices, and structures. It should be accessible from the outside, easily noticable, and able to fit the snipper blades of the Jaws of Life. Maybe a small cavity like a big fuel filler compartment that has a big label and flush fit handles that allow the cover to be yanked off and opened easily but are totally unobtrusive and aerodynamic the rest of the time. 👍
@@mannys9130 The two biggest points for me, are identifying it as electrified, and identifying the location of the electrical emergency cutoff point. That said, I am absolutely in love with this conversion of his, and wish I had the resources to make one of these myself.
I don’t know if you will need to wait for the second click to start moving when you have everything installed, but it would be cool if you could use the wait light on the dash. You would probably have to add a 12v LED to it but it should be easy compared to the rest of the build. I am looking forward to seeing it moving out of the shop!
It’s very impressive to see how good a shape that Humvee looks now. Btw, doesn’t Utah still allow you to purchase tires with studs to help with grip? Anyways, this is a great video to watch.
Man, those wheels... they look massive and awesome! Did you also take into acccount that EV's generally use different rubber compound more resistant against weight and wear? Most brands mark it with a "EV" badge. The snowflake had the letters M+S next to it, which means they're intended for mud & snow.
While there are some out there that are built different and more and more are coming to market, most "EV" tires are just made to be quieter (they often have a foam insert) and with the kind of weight people put on their off-road rigs it shouldn't be an issue with off-road tires. It would be an interesting comparison to see the range with something like the Hankook Ventus S1evo3 EV variant (an actual performance EV tire) and the current tires he has, I wonder how significant the difference would be, if at all. I would also love to see if you can even get them in a size that fits haha
@@joyfuflower from what I understood it was mostly the combination of weight and immense and instant torque. My previous summer-set on my Model X barely lasted a year. And those where designed to be tougher.
Everytime I watch one of these I wonder how much time and effort goes into behind the scenes talking to people, companies and finding out what is needed to get to the next step. I am enjoying this series.
Just as a "down the road" upgrade thought... since your Humvee is now going to be electric (and nice and quiet) you will be able to hear lots of noise that wouldn't normally come through with the loud engine. The Hummer H1 Portal Hubs use helical gears to cut down on some of that noise rather than the straight cut gears that the Humvees used. Naturally you will get more strength from the straight cut gears, but if it ends up being too loud, this might be an upgrade you may want to consider.

your patient's and skill is off the charts. lots of money doesn't hurt as well.
I was happy to see you ordered 5 wheels and tires enabling you to have a spare. We all saw what you did to that Rivian tire. :D
Awesome build project and way different than watching you mouse-proof a cabin. Cheers man!!
Now to schedule tire rotations with all five tires, so they all get used.
Such a fun project and a great series. Well done Zack.
Thank you for your newscaster type voice. I can listen at 2x speed and understand everything you’re saying. Great video too 👍
This makes me feel like the old days before DVR, on Demand or Streaming, when you had to watch your TV show when it aired. Yes I know I can watch this anytime, but every episode ends with a Cliff hanger and I can wait to see the next. I watch as soon as I can after you publish. This is the most interesting show on any platform.
i’m so exited to see this thing go off road
yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah
US TOO!
and get towed out...
Very cool. I love your choice of tires and am fascinated by your whole rebuild. I had wanted to do the same with my old 1971 Series IIA Land Rover, but c'est la guerre. THanks for sharing your adventure!
I totally Believe when Zack says he is gonna clean the wires(In every Hummer ev video)
When everything is about to get finished is the time you arrange everything as to not get them messed up
That looks so good! 😀
8:58 you will notice that the new tires have thin hairline grooves across all the tread blocks... these are 'sips' , they specifically help with grip in the snow because they 'grab' onto the snow, relying on the friction within snow for grip, instead of between the rubber and the snow
Very cool as usual Zach!! So awesome to see the progress. Getting so close now? Re fluids, what about differential fluid and brake fluid? Those count!
Random thought about the Tesla's not including a spare- My Dad' Model 3 picks up nails like a magnet. He's needed 6 new tires in 2.5 years of ownership, because the stock whels have sound insulation inside that makes it impossible to plug.
How would anything being inside make it "impossible" to plug?
You mean tire shops just refuse to do so?
@@Nevir202 Their is a foam insulation mated to the rubber on the back side of the tread. I assume that makes it contract around a plug differently, because we tried mutiple times to no avail.
@12:22 the zip tie is a great idea for a clear and durable (but still changeable if desired) level mark on the sight tube.
It makes my heart feel warm is fuzzy to hear you throw out a chris fix slogan! Love the build, keep it up!
Correct. But I have a feeling he knew that.
I've actually watched every minute of the Humvee series - a first on RUclips and I want more... 😍
Well done Zack! I wonder what I'll do when this project is done 😂
It's been almost a month since this last video about the HUMM EV you posted. I hope nothing went wrong 🙏🏻 and i hope it's finished soon cz we're so excited about this 🙌🏻

Love this hummer series more than web series 😂😂
Love from India sir!!!!! 🖤
These videos are a highlight of my week. I literally say YAY out loud when I see a new video uploaded.
Get a life.
@@azzeeX sorry I enjoy something.
I think the wheels are perfect, but now the whole thing needs to be painted black. That would look super baddass!
He already said he'll paint the vehicle in PINK in one of the video 👍
Love watching your videos, Zach.
From working in the garden on the ranch and your Hummer, all very interesting and thanks for sharing.
Damn 2 seconds bro. Absolutely love the vids, said it once ill say it ugain thank you so much for allowing us to take this journey with you. LOVE THE HUMMER! CANT WAIT TO SEE IT AT THE END!
Big fan of this series ☺️☺️
I work as an engineer for Cooper Tire (now a Goodyear brand) who makes the Mickey Thompson’s he is using. I just had a girl hit my front driver side tire, a Mickey Thompson, and the tire is still fine. Granted she killed the tie rods and bearings on an F250, but the tire was fine despite taking the whole impact and shredding her passenger quarter panel. He’s got some good tires on there. I trust my life with those things any day.
Would be a good idea to add a breather pipe and filter up high for the torquebox to prevent it taking in water when you are driving through deep puddles.
You could have just said:
Add a snorkel
@@sean6992 A snorkel is something different, that's for an ICE to take in air, this is about the differentials, gearbox, etc.
@@navithefairy semantics. They're both snorkels, they're both breathers.
Great looking tires! Cool to hear the weight differences too. Thank you for teaching us as you are learning. Be Safe n healthy.
This video is getting interesting day by day 😍 , love from india sir , the project was so mesmerizing and informative 👍 👏 👌 😀 🙂🙂💯💯💯💯💖💖❤❤
I ultimately want him to drive this thing and show the whole world he did it.
And take it all apart and do a 100% restoration! I want this project to be a full restoration!
I don't think the last part will be possible since he has already cut down some parts. Even if it is I don't think it's worth it.
@@abhishek_soni1 Maybe i worded it wrong, but you know what i mean.
I love how we've been following this project for almost a year and we still have not seen the cables been organized XD
Lmao yeah
Damn that’s crazy it looks like an electric military humvee or something, most people would probably disagree but that’s what it looks like to me and I have a unique eye for things.
Wow man very unique eye
Unique eye indeed, gentleman
yeah, CRAAZY
Unique 👁
Wow, you really opened my eyes....
I thought something was odd about it but I couldn't figure it out.... UNTILL you came in to my life.
You sir are the Saint of all saints.
You have really saved my life ❤️
You forgot the blinker fluid which is a must. Without this no car can run, electric or ICE.
Also remember to fill your tyres with winter air in winter for optimal performance and long durability.
Best show ever
This series is sick❤
Yeah you can run studded tires if you want but that's not really necessary for his application.
@@joyfuflower What is original purpose of the hub/wheel cap hollow rods? 2:55
@@joyfuflower from what I understood it was mostly the combination of weight and immense and instant torque. My previous summer-set on my Model X barely lasted a year. And those where designed to be tougher.
Commenting to boost engagements. You are incredibly entertaining. I can't imagine how much you work on this channel.
I would definitely add a massive time attack Wing. You've got to have that rear down force
Cant wait to see this go at highway speeds
Keep it up man
Everytime I watch one of these I wonder how much time and effort goes into behind the scenes talking to people, companies and finding out what is needed to get to the next step. I am enjoying this series.
Hi
Hello
Just as a "down the road" upgrade thought... since your Humvee is now going to be electric (and nice and quiet) you will be able to hear lots of noise that wouldn't normally come through with the loud engine. The Hummer H1 Portal Hubs use helical gears to cut down on some of that noise rather than the straight cut gears that the Humvees used. Naturally you will get more strength from the straight cut gears, but if it ends up being too loud, this might be an upgrade you may want to consider.
This might be the sickest video build on RUclips on god
Can’t wait to see this out ripping. It is getting so close. Curious to see it out on some trails.
