I'm using sanding wheels with my long reach air die grinder... what a Ton of work! Dirty back breaking too lmao! Yea the power balls only knock the dust off... seriously just to help them shine after all the hard work is done. Most don't know that heat from the friction is what helps lift out the contamination. It's definitely an Art Form!
I used to work at a bike shop as a kid. My job was to polish aluminum parts all day to a mirror. Instead of rags, socks, towels, we used the Mothers polish you have and Charmin Ultra Soft TP. It worked great. For whatever reason it had to be Charmim Ultra. And its cheaper than wags, paper towels, etc.
I know this is an old vid, just going to add a bit of advice. Think about those pressure sensing stem caps. They are pretty flipping cool, but they press down the needle in the stem. If they get a little loose you will come out to your rig with flat tires. Ask me how I know.
Thanks for posting, I have the exact same wheels and tires on my '86 CJ7. Lots of elbow grease required but worth the effort! FYI, all the new wheels now are made in China.
Just got a set of these wheels for my Jeep. Someone know their worth. But sold them cheaper as they are very oxidized and he was changing the look. Was seeing the best way to clean them up.
if they are rough you have to sand them.. I had some once I had to start with 180 grit and they turned out just fine... when they are in bad shape they aren’t worth that much maybe a set for $100 -$150...a set like mine when I started:$300...but polished maybe $400-500 new ones are like $175 each (AR172)
I love polishing wheels like that. Do you have any recommendations for getting them to stay looking clean? I've tried Klasse and i think i'll even try a ceramic coating next. You're a cool dad setting up your daughter with this awesome jeep. Keep up the good videos
Nice shiny wheels always enhance the appearance of most vehicles. That polished wheel with the nice tire looks awesome. Now when you are through doing the Jeep wheels, do something to make the white letters disappear, and the Jeep will look totally awesome. However, if the Jeep belongs to a girl, probably should leave the white letters alone, as she might not appreciate that.
Hey Chris I got a quick question for you, so I have a set of decladded GMC aluminum wheels. The PO painted them gunmetal grey and I was looking to polish them. Any tips in terms of grit? I was going to start with an 800 but not sure if that is going to be low enough to get the paint out, and then 1000 then 2000. Also should I soak the sand paper in water or constantly run water over the wheel?
Ah okay I figured I could just sand the paint off. I’ll use some stripper and get it off first then and see what happens. I know I’m going to need to sand though they are rough in a few spots I can see.

I honestly don’t know what to tell you.. you are doing something that I would not waste my time with... the wheels look too rough.. so you would need to sand them down.. the problem is that the design of the wheels is going to give you some major problems.. notice how my wheels are like a big tub that can be sanded if needed.. even my 22” Alcoa’s on my semi conversion can be sanded... those look like a job
@@chriscraft77022 Oh those are not my wheels those are some I found on google to show you the declads lol. The ones I have already have all the glue and stuff off of them mine are way way smoother than those. Either way still going to be some work.

A great video, thanks, just keeping it simple flat hand with a good aluminium polish. Well done.

U did a great job I'm impressed with how much it improved thank's
Great video! Just what I was looking for. Great technique!
Great Video. I love your attention to detail.
I'm about to get a pair on bullet hole wheels for my truck. Just getting a leg up on taking care of them. Great video
Thanks for a great video. Have these same wheels on my S10 4X4. Can't wait to follow your lead.
You did that for your daughter? Your an awesome pops! Shalom!
I like your idea of doing it one at a time too
Impressive,,,,,great tutorial. Simple, complete, accurate and precise ,,,,you sir are a professional.
Excellent video. Doing some old centrelines tiommow. Was going to start with 400 grit but I will start with 600 now
I got some old 16.5 Weld Racing rims I about to try this on. Thanks for the video.
great info. been doing similar method for years myself. Thanks. keep spreading the truth.
I appreciate your hussle sir. I just wish I had the kind of time needed to do this to my semi tractor wheels
you have to get that buffer kit.. you can’t do semi wheels by hand unless they are new. I have some semi wheels I need to do too
Just what I needed to see! Looks great! Thanks a lot.
Great video, I like your narration style.
Absolutely a great video, very helpful.
Like the way it came out.shine’s like jewelry.💎
this is a budget video.... i have a pro polishing video coming soon... you will need about $300 just to start.. think about that before you hate me
Awesome. I found some great candidate wheels (same ones basically) and gonna try and get er dun. Thanks.
A shotgun wire bore brush on a drill..... fast work.
Awesome I just bought an old set of rims that need some cleaning up this will work great

they are just cut on a CNC in China now... nothing wrong with the wheels.. I’ve bought a few with no problems

Can you use a sock without the hole...?😄 good job.
So what grit roller did you grind the wheel with
Eventually I will be doing this got a '96 dakota and the wheels are pretty much solid brown.
I have a video using a power ball.. get one if you can
@@chriscraft77022 pretty hard to do, I'm off grid. But thanks, might get my friend to let me come over and use his place.
What number grit power ball would you suggest if you need one?
Thanks I bought cleaner that wasn't doing anything. This is what I will try.
Hope u know at the end of polishing a microfiber cloth gets so much more off thr rim
Awesome vid. How long did it took you to do all four?
probably 1 hour a wheel
Awesome thanks for sharing!

you need to paint remove them you aren’t going to “sand the paint off” and then see what they look like.. I don’t know what decladded wheels are

Try wet sanding with wet sand paper and wd40 up to 10k grit and you be amazed at shine without polishing, but with its like a mirror
I have same set of wheels but in 6 lug and i did what i said about wd40 and wet sandpaper up to 10k grit
I will try that next time.. the wheels I had were extra rough.. next time for sure
Great job! I have same wheels and about to do mine,,,,,do you ever clear after final buff?
no
Great video!!
Hey! Awesome video! What does the comet do when sanding?? I really want to know haha. Thank you
I use comet because it has bleach and is a little gritty ... it does nothing for sanding wheels... it’s the only cleaning soap I buy..
@@chriscraft77022 thanks for the reply! That’s fair, nice job on those wheels! 🤘
Nice work bro
Can you imagine that person trying to polish a turbine wheel with a ball 4:30?
I fear those tire pressure caps will get taken real fast
like stolen? they do stand out but I don’t daily drive the Jeep.. so far they have not been stolen
Thanks man
Yep that's what I am doing to my f 350
‘ I think I’m out of bad socks’ hahaha
So use 1000 grit?
it depends how rough the metal is
I wish I could post a pic
So do I wet sand or leave it dry and sand?
Old bar rags 1,000 for 9.99 cash n carry wilould do the job as well

15x10 wheels. 33x12.5 tires
