    I've been waiting for you to review this one! Thank you for having an open mind and buying boots from all manufacturers. Allen Edmonds seems to get ignored in these online review spaces, but you are the exception! Thank you and keep them coming!

    I have a pair of boots with the XL sole (Berwick 538 moc toes) and find the same issue as you regarding stability. I think it is because they have the cushioning of a soft running shoe but none of the support features that are built into running shoes nowadays like TPU plates and dual density foam.

    You are so right about the sole. I have the Higgins Mill Barbour and it is so light, bouncy and squishy. It's almost sneaker like. Not a 'boot' feel at all. They are in my rotation because I spent $450 but I can't wait to get back into my Aldens or Grant Stones.

      I was looking at the Barbour because of the sole. I’m on my feet all day.

    I have a pair of these and agree 95% with your review. I was able to find mine for $199 USD! I bought them without even a review until after they arrived. The color is very versatile and the yare probably my favorite pair of boots.

    Thank you for the video. I know this is a couple months old video though for anyone wanting to get a pair, righ now both the Allen Admond Amazon store and their website have most items at 30% discount. Picked up the same Loden suede pair from the review at Amazon for $200 (Thursday's price). Great video!!!

    I have an old AE Caen cap toe boot in suede and the 11.5D fit me perfectly if anything a little roomy due to the blocky toe. I measure an 11.5D on brannock. However I found the Higgins Mill boot tight. When I tried on a normal brown chromexcel pair with black rubber sole, the 11.5D fit well. Snug, but felt right. However, I was buying the natural chromexcel “weatherproof” version with the red rubber sole. They had to order those in my size and mailed them to me. Unfortunately they were too snug and did not break in. I wore them on and off for almost 4 months before finally giving up and selling them.

    Another well made and interesting video. A bit of information that is maybe useful: „Loden“ is a type of wool fabric that is traditionally used in the southern parts of Germany / the alpine region by woodsmen, farmers and hunters. Very old type of fabric that has been used for hundreds of years. It is often in dark green or brown colors like you see in this boot.

    I have the high top sneaker version and I had to size one whole size. When I first purchased the sneakers I was hesitant on it not jiving with my outfits but I’m glad I kept them. The color loden is a great third option when it comes to versatility when you want a break from brown or oxblood/burgundy.

    I have the HM in burgundy lug sole & I have a love/hate thing for these boots. Comfortable but the quality could be better, got it on sale so the price was justifiable. Idk if I ever keeps them where they need a resole but want to get a vibram lug sole to keep that more rugged look mix with it dressy upper. AE is better making dress shoes than boots IMO.

  • @MarcP5267

    I’m an 8.5D on Brannock too. But I have skinny feet and skinny ankles.
    I always have issues with lacings coming too close.
    Like you I like my fit to be snug in the heel and ball and a lot of room in the toes. The Trubalance last is my best fitting boot in this regard but like I said having low volume feet and skinny ankles makes lacings close.

    Great review, as always! One question if you can help clarify. You mentioned the outsole is cemented and, therefore, is a throw-away shoes. Can cobbler just glue a replacement outsole? If not resolelable, it would defeate paying more for Goodyear welt boots.

      You can resole. The outsole is on a midsole and can be replaced

    Great review, as always! I have the exact same boots and it’s funny they’re my go-to airport shoes as well (like you I also have this model in a Dainite/CXL combo but I haven’t worn that pair on a plane yet, lol). Yes they’re a little squishy due to that sole but a nice comfy break in my regular rotation of (harder soled) GS Diesels and Chelseas.

    Some cemented boots are re-soleable in the same way that a glued on sole on a welted shoe is re-soleable. I have had cemented boots re-soled myself and in many cases a cobbler would do the same as a cobbler would do for this boot.
    Where it gets trickier is when there is a foam midsole integrated into the outsole which is how most modern hiking and athletic boots are constructed. Even so, there are a couple of specialised repairers in the UK (and I'm sure elsewhere) who can rebuild many of these and are authorised agents. Typically the all leather boots are ones that are more likely to be included.
    Zamberlan, Scarpa, Lowa and Meindl (and possibly other brands ?) also offer a resole service at their factories for many of their heavier, all leather hiking and mountaineering boots though it usually makes sense to use an authorised repairer unless you live in that country.

    • @UnknownUser-rb9pd
      @UnknownUser-rb9pd 2 года назад

      I'll just add that the most well known specialist UK repairer, Lancashire Shoe Repairs, have a much larger list of brands on their website than I included above but also claim they can repair "ALL makes and models of walking, hiking and trekking boots" .

    Hey Teik, I have a question that's unrelated to this video. I'm considering of buying Truman boots, but also want the best quality possible, which is Nicks or Whites. Since you have both, if Thursday boots are a 1 and Nicks and White's are a 10, where do you think Truman is positioned?
    (the only reason I'm asking is because Rose Anvil didn't yet cut open a pair of Truman, and we can't see what's inside)
    Thanks

    • @x.nihilo
      @x.nihilo 2 года назад

      Apparently after watching a cobbler take a few Truman boots apart, they are filled with a fiberglass shank and foam filler, which I don't think it warrants the price. So personally I will stay away from Truman until their quality improves.

    • @Bootlosophy
      @Bootlosophy  2 года назад +1

      IMO Truman are up there, maybe 8.5 to 9 just for the solidity of the construction and the fit and comfort. They do have boots with fibreglass shanks - but fibreglass can make solid vessels and body armour and help me go through airport security, so what? But all of my Truman boots are steel shanked. Not all of them have a foam infill, some of them are cork, and some even leather. But my score is on the wearing of them, not on the materials, and for ruggedness for stitching etc

  • @ryemill7787
    @ryemill7787 Год назад

    I bought these not realizing the outsole was so dang soft. Maybe it's all in my head but sometimes I think I can feel pressure points in my foot where the different lugs are. The website should be more clear on how soft it is. At $249 I kept the boot but if I had paid full price then absolutely would not have been happy.

  • @johnhawkins3507
    @johnhawkins3507 2 года назад

    I would exchange these if you haven't worn them outside. They are too small for your feet. The 1157 has a wide toe box, it is not a hipster boot. I had to go 1/2 size above TTS for my feet with the AE Park City. Maybe the Higgins Mill runs narrow, and you need an E, not a D width. Try TTS and E.

    • @ADyess086
      @ADyess086 Год назад

      Allen Edmonds advised me completely opposite

    • @johnhawkins3507
      @johnhawkins3507 Год назад

      @@ADyess086 😀Happens sometimes. I have four pairs of AE boots. My feet on Brannock are just wider than 11E. But I have thick feet, and need EEE. For a comparison, 10.5EEE is ok on my first pair, but I went 11 EEE on the next three pairs, which is better. I would say never go below Brannock on length, width will depend on thickness of the foot. I originally thought I was 10.5 on the Brannock, which is why I advised going a half size larger. Then I bought my own Brannock scale. TTS is best for size on AE boots.
