- An unlikely nominee for Best Song at the Oscars but the couple who wrote it had their fingers crossed. For a stretch of five years I got to find and do a piece for ABC News on the evening of the Oscars.
A shame they didn't win it
a crime they didn't win.
One word to describe the song “SWEET”. They definitely should have won the Oscar. I have loved and followed Mr. McKean’s career since I was a little girl in good ol Milwaukee a la Lenny and Squiggy days and a huge fan!
As noted the film does not make fun of folk music. It does make fun of the music industry generally. However, all that aside, as funny and bizarre as the movie is, it builds to an astonishing emotional climax with Mitch and Mickey singing this song. Mitch in particular is a tragic figure and you see him wrestle with reuniting with Mickey throughout, culminating in a powerful 'will-he-or-won't-he' moment. For an improvised comedy, it all leads up to that scene and I'm seriously not over-exaggerating to say that it's what the film is really all about. Many people cry when they watch it (I do, every time). If you've never seen it, you are missing a cinematic moment that not many other movies can surpass. Honestly.
Thanks for your reply! I haven't seen a worthy mock-a-mentary in quite a while.
I never realized Annette O'Toole had such a lovely singing voice!
Check her out in Copacabana and also, she dubs the singing voice of the ingenue in the First Nudie Musical.
I wish they released a single as well as Eugene and Catherine.
00:59 this movie NEVER made fun of folk music.
It absolutely did. Hell, the very title of the movie "A Mighty Wind" is a reference to fart sounds.
It's a very, very, VERY affectionate joke.
He said it himself, "If it's a joke, it's a gentile joke."
Go watch the Folksmen perform Children of the Sun and tell me they weren't making fun of folk music. LOL.
The movie doesn't make fun of folk music.
I mean it kinda does, but it's more of a good natured ribbing.
This entire movie plus others performed by this troupe should receive major recognition
I think that the other song sung by Mitch and Mickey in the film, "When You're Next to Me" is a better song but it didn't actually appear in the movie. It was played during closing credits and in extra footage on the DVD.
It's also on their soundtrack CD
@@StrangeScaryNewEngland Yeah! I used to play it on my radio show at the local college.
@@shawnuel Well, that's friggin awesome! I would play it any time I was on a "road trip" and had to go a good distance. Also a good choice for an at-home party with some friends / family.
Thats love
Lord of the Rings finally won their life time achievement award and IMO this was a better choice.
"Kiss" and "The Rainbow Connection" are the greatest Oscar fails in the history of the Best Song category. Who can remember the songs they fell to?
Gosh the "real" Mickey is Beautiful
Yeah, Annette O'Toole really is!
That's what I thought too, good- he deserve a beauty.
Great song!!!!!
He should have gotten one for "Big Bottom"
Chicanery
