I recently had to fit new bearings in the double cardan joint on my Land Rover front driveshaft and yes, getting the centre bearings in is indeed "tricky". I don't know if they're all like this, but the Land Rover one also has a spring in the centre of the double joint which makes keeping all the bearings aligned, whilst at the same time trying to keep the spring compressed and get the spider in, "very tricky".
I need this slip sleeve setup. My front end has a lot of droop, even with the 6.5" spline currently. I'm afraid of it separating and tearing up the truck.
It's not just being out of balance that can cause drive shafts to vibrate. If the pinion angles aren't equal but opposite then the changes in velocity as the shaft rotates can cause vibration. This is a problem that quite often happens when vehicles are lifted and the angles of the drive shaft joints are changed. It's also why shafts that are designed to operate with unequal angles have a double cardan joint instead of a single one.
Whenever I fit u joint caps if I knock them even slightly the damn needle bearings all end up in the end of the cap. You can push the cross piece into the cap one side to prevent it but when it comes to the other side it’s the same deal. Always use a vice to gently press them in now.
That was actually just a continuity error with filming. We did put the spring in, there's a quick shot where you can see it has disappeared from the bench. But also the spring isn't actually necessary, depending on who you ask.
It would be interesting to have them spin up a home made square shaft that someone made just to show how horrible they are and the loads on the pinion and case bearings. Since there are still lots of guys that think those are just fine🤣
@Mussa The guy works hard on these videos, nothing to dislike 👎 People are just that lazy, and best thing to do, especially if you're not into offroad is not watch, not go out of your way to dislike something, unless you're just a hater?
@@frankfilippone9679 dude relax your not curing world hunger or the fentanyl epidemic!! It’s a good video “so what” but don’t worry about it.. even dislikes help with the algorithm, go do a video yourself and put all that energy into it.. hopefully you can get likes or go into your garage and do something physically and like it yourself..
@Mussa Been making videos for over a decade, I have thousands of followers, I like to support my fellow good Americans, and my Sport, I can be a negative MoFo but I enjoy watching positive great quality offroad videos, I like in long Island NY aka Hell 🔥 So when I watch these good people in places I'd rather be, I try my best to do the right thing by them, I motovlog on my motorcycle, I have a first Gen Tacoma Solid Axle Swap, I go offroad and travel around my beautiful country, I've been doing it for 20 years! PS; Hey Shawn, thank ya for the slip yoke trick tip. 😂
Really enjoyed this episode!
Great to hear that this kind of content is appreciated as well! Thanks for the feedback Ben!
Enjoyed your informative approach to a new to me subject. Editing was spot on, all meat and no fluff. Thanks
There's no better shaft then a woody shaft that's for sure. My last Cherokee had a tom woods shaft in it and never had an issues.
Great video. I’ll never buy a driveshaft from any place else. Amazing customer service and deliver an awesome product.

This video was awesome!!!
I’ve been wanting a show like this. Show how it’s made so you know how to fix it. Very informative!👍🏼

Great video, quick question. Did Shawn give a reason why not to use that small spring in the middle of the double cardon joint?

@@tomwoodscustomdriveshafts great info, thanks for the reply!!

Sweet! Can u imagine if offroad parts came with a lifetime warranty 😂😂 The company would be bankrupt in a month!
Man..that was pretty click bait worthy. Still, cool seeing their process.
I love when clickbait actually is worth clicking
