Back in the early 50s, in Albany, NY, Hoppy put me on Topper and led us out to the street as he was getting ready for a parade. Among happiest moments in my childhood.

My favorite hoppy is marshal lot Santa fe. He really showed a connection to the actress in the movie. They really had a on screen something special n where Holly really could fall in love with a WO men. The actress was really good. It was good to see. Now that I'm older n watching so many of these old westerns had a old buddy theme where they never wanted too have women to take hold of their
It buddy. . The directors back then almost had a gay theme of connection..Like in beginning of this one movie..Gabby Hayes is painting the bar 20 name on the wagon cover. Then it shows Lucky with a bunch of wild flowers in his hand n shakes dust in Gabby's face....but here comes a girl in scene from nowhere just going up n taking them from Lucky as if they were for her. But the look on Lucky's face that the director had him do. It was all set where Lucky was surprised that she just took them that's how he looked...I really think he had picked them for Holly. Even in early movies with the Johnny actor....anytime they would b splitting up...the younger actor looked as if he was leaving his lover!. Makes you wonder when all those men who traveled only with men...Bet they kept each other warm of nights...lol....they always had Gabby or others complain if another women was around. But in Santa Fe Marshal its so neat at the ending. When Lucky says to Topper....you may have a step mommy...Its so great n that line made the whole movie..!!! It was such a cute line!!..but the actress was great! n I love them showing her n Holly riding in wagon together...its the best one ..but all the Holly movies are threat. It really made u see that William Boyd was probably just a good guy in person as he grew ol!der n it really makes you want to have got to meet him n know him as a friend.

Thanks, Nevada Jane, for this grand Hopalong Cassidy movie. The snappy dialog 14:35 and 20:30 between Hoppy and the desk clerk (Earl Hodgins) was a special bonus-- the two veteran actors obviously enjoying themselves. And the saloon fight 24:42 was as good as it gets!

Considering this was only Robert Mitchum's second movie (the first was the Human Comedy), they gave Mitchum a somewhat major role with a couple of speaking spots and his name in the credits -- that's saying quite a bit for a new actor.

Actually John Wayne devised the way to swing as tho fighting and the angle of the camera caught it as tho they’d taken the blow. He was the greatest of actors. In The Alamo, his dream film to do, he was producer, director and acted Davy Crockett.
