Howard, This is the best interview u have ever done. U brought out the best in Cher. I’ve seen Cher do so many interviews and she ends up not having a good time. I recently listened to her book on Audible and I loved it as much as u did. We think of Cher as an ICON. We had no idea of how she grew up, the struggles she went through in her life. I love her more now than ever. I actually You Tubed the Sonny & Cher Comedy Hr shows on You Tube and told my adult daughters to watch the
show. They’re so good! So funny! It was so good to see all those guests again! I
loved how Joe Namath could not stay in character! So adorable! I had no idea that Cher had so many wonderful relationships with men! She deserved that happiness. I especially love how even though Sonny stole MILLIONS from Cher, she somehow still had that special connection to him. Great job, Howard!!!

I like Cher, except that she wasn’t a very good mother. She was rarely around because she was pursuing superstardom, leaving Chaz, first with Sonny and then her household staff after Sonny was no longer in the picture. Chaz said (without bitterness, by the way) that he realized early on that his mom was the special one, the center of attention and care, so he just tried to meld into the background and not be noticed. She sent her other child, Elijah, away to boarding school at age 7. When he rebelled some years later and wanted to come home and go to local school, she threatened to put him in a military boarding school. Elijah also said, though, his mother’s house was always packed with people, always loud, always chaotic, and going back to school after a break home would actually be a blessing. He also gave instances of being on break like with his mother in NY and he’d be left not only unsupervised but apparently unmissed, and was out running the streets at age 11 - 12. I don’t know what to say about when she released a song on the same day as Chaz’s book came out. I’ve heard Cher say, “My kids know I love them.”, as if that’s enough. Although I like Cher’s moxie and music, I don’t like that she was a pretty neglectful mother.

Interesting. A very good point you make . I hadn’t really paid too much attention to that part of Chers life.
Not every mother is good at it. I get that. Mine wasn’t either. Thank god I had a father who was good at it, or god only knows….

No wonder she and Kathy Griffin aren't friends anymore, she's in with Andy and Anderson. Listening to Cher's book now she's had a fascinating life not a bit of an understatement. Just amazing and a terribly difficult childhood, just awful. She's a warrior.

She says her mother was duped by men and they controlled her etc. but she is the exact same with Sonny. She's a strong person now but I don't think she can come to terms with the fact that she was so weak when she was younger, because that wasn't really the person she was or should be.

By the way chooch means dumb or donkey in Italian it's not to be confused with hooch.Hust thought I would educate you a little. Love you Cher, and Howard when my children would do something not to smart or they were being stubborn I called them chooch. Chooch", in standard Italian “ciuco", is a word for donkey. The adapted word, probably derived from the deformed pronunciation of a similar word in some southern Italian dialects, came into wide usage in the northeastern United States, propagated by immigrants from southern Italian regions, then repeated by people in the second and third generation with the pronunciation as indicated above.
As intended by the immigrants who first used the word, it refers, as the word “asino" does in standard Italian, to a person of low intellect and, by extension, a person of low morals and corrupted values, in other words, a lowlife. A “chooch" might, for example, be someone who steals money from his mother's purse.
I'm not sure if this word had the same meaning in the regions, maybe Campania and Calabria, in which it originated. In any case, for people in the northeastern United States of a certain generation, it was widely understood.

I think she’s been trained from early childhood to just roll with it, especially when men are involved. Every man-from her grandfather to her mother’s many husbands, were just people that are just there for a bit until they let you down and then you roll on. It’s like getting mad at the weather. It’s just there and it does what it does and so you roll with it.

This is literally no different than any other Cher interview ever, look em up. She’s a living meme at this point, and I mean that with all due respect, she’s a legend, an icon… many people have impersonated her over the years because she is so predictable. And that’s her! I think she and Howard actually talked about things, for the entire hour, that she never gets to talk about. Her mainstream interviews are usually dull and all they do is ask her how she keeps going, her "secret" to longevity, etc. This was actually good but I don’t know what you’re expecting from Cher at this point. She’s 80.
