The way most survival reality shows work in kpop is that a high number of trainees compete against each other, some get eliminated along the way and at the end, a few get to debut (previous JYP survival show had 16 girls in the beginning, at the end 9 girls debuted).
The Stray Kids survival show was kinda experimental, instead of competing against each other for a spot at the final lineup, the members were already chosen by Chris. Their missions are for them to proove their talents and teamwork, to make sure all the trainees Chris picked are qualified to debut.
Side note: not every group in kpop needs a survival show to debut. The survival shows happens because the company might have a large amount of trainees considered good, it also works as a way to promote the group before they even debut, so when they do, a fanbase have started to form already.

The amount of professionalism some of them had during that time is beyond me.
In this footage they didn't show it, but Chan actually fell before his part... You can find video of that on the internet. It is still crazy to me, cause if I didn't see that I wouldn't belive.
Song that they performed isn't theirs. In this kind of showcases only trainees participate, and they mostly don't get chance to have their own songs, so they do covers. If I'm not mistaken the original singer is a boy group called H.O.T.
But 3racha (Bangchan, Changbin and Han) performed song that they made by themselves. Song called runner's high. Again in show only snippets... But there is a full version of that if you're interested.

🎤Enjoyed your reaction. You probably realized by now that 3Racha was just incorporated into the boy project #1 group. They're basically the foundation of Stray Kids. 3Racha is made up of Chan/or Chris, Han Jisung and Changbin. They write, compose and helped produce ALL of Stray Kids music. Of course, they did have extra assistance in producing, it would have not been possible without some of the outside staff on the series and the boys always credit them on the tracks given. Since Chan, picked all the members & made Stray Kids from 3Racha is one reason why their music is so rap based & they have more 'rappers' than 'singers'. JYP [the man] basically made the final decision as to the group challenges as to whether they pass or failed. He is a 'real' drama meanie & loves to keep his secrets to the very lasstttt second. He acts like he discuss the decisions but I am sure its all him... Just be prepared... I did not 'like' him very much.. due to this show.. And seeing just how hard these boys worked to stay together, you will realize Why they are so much more family then teammates. 🎤🖖🏽 Look forward to the next one. 😁

🎤 Idk if someone has already explained this, but you were confused, so basically, there are companies in S. Korea, where you can audition to train to become a K-pop idol. If your audition is accepted, you would train in singing, dancing, and more for the chance to debut as part of a team. Some fail out before they get to that, others are picked to be in a team and might eventually debut, sometimes through a survival show. In JYP (founded by JYP, self named), they have a yearly showcase for the trainees. They would perform either solo or as a team if they have one. That is why Chan said it was his eighth time. Also some of the trainees live there, like if they came from Australia like chan at the age of 13, while others might live with their parents nearby and commute to their training each day, probably after putting in a full day of conventional school.

This part was only the beginning. Now that they were chosen to be the debuting group they had to go through more training.
In Kpop usually the members are put together to form what the company thinks would be successful. As the members were chosen by Chan/Chris, they were given missions to accomplish to make sure they had a strong team to be successful. btw, The girl group did eventually debut as Itzy.

JYP gives them missions throughout survival show and if someone doesn't met his standards, they are at risk of elimination and would leave the group. That is why Chris says he wants them to debut as 9 because he knows there is a chance they won't.

in 2017 Stray Kids had a 16, 4 x 17, 18, 19 and 20 year old. I.N is the youngest and Chris the oldest. They were very young and already very talented.
