Your content is awesome, I've learned alot from watching the past couple years and been introduced to a bunch of lifters you've interviewed and referenced. Recently I've found some videos of Dzoni Benidze performing the jerk and it looks so unique I am mesmerized. I was wondering if you know if he has a channel/website, or maybe if you could do a video talking about/interviewing him? Thank you and much respect!
Man you always be sirius and completely correct on bells, that's why you are in my holy functional training triad (Gregory Desm.Kettlebells, Mark Wildman Clubs, The Flowing Dutchman Mace's)you guys are the best period 💪🙌
Man, Gregory! Those kettlebells look AWESOME. I have a set of filled Progression competition bells (12, 16, 24, 28), which are ok, but I might have to get a couple 28s of those Pros for when I’m ready… 😅
For the Prokettlebell, would you recommend the apollo or atlas? For context, I've gotten used to the standard competition size from Kettlebell Kings. Thanks :)
When it came to picking my first 16kg Kettlebell, I bought a BodyMax "Kettlebone" (a skull-shaped kettlebell). Sure it isn't a serious kettlebell, but they looked cool and added a fun factor to the exercise. In fact, I loved the one I bought in 2017 so much, I bought a second one for double 16KG lifts and have a 20KG Amazon basics bell for heavier days.
I have to agree with him on the cast iron Kettlebells being better for double handed swings, I found the handle of the competition kettlebells too small for double handled swings and I don’t even have big hands. They’r ok for low reps dhs but for something like Dan John’s 10000 swings challenge…. No thanks, I’d stick to the cast Iron. By the way you should definitely make a video on Dan John’s 10000 kettlebell swings challenge
The 10,000 swing challenge has to be one of the least thought-out challenges ever. I've heard repeatedly that people have hurt themselves by trying to compete a protocol that doesn't progress, but just starts the person doing 333 swings a day in perpetuity.
My ones are a wide titanium handle. Not quite like my iron ones, but still better than the standard competition diameter. I’ve used the ones at my gym and for 1 or 2 handed swings, iron are pretty great. I could snatch either depending on my mood. 😅
Hi Gregory, as a user of Bodymax Kettlebones (the Skull shaped ones) 20 & 24kg, I can confirm that it does require 2% more concentration to make sure the skull is facing the correct way or u will end up with a MUCH more uncomfortable rep! I have been looking to invest in a pair of 12-32kg adjustable KB's, what are your thoughts on these? before I drop £500 on them.
@lebestark-official Thanks, ok I am trying to gather a but of advice to help me decide. The feeling from cast is all I know, and I don't have much space/money for many KB's, so was hoping the adjustables would be my solution.
@@lebe-stark I will respectfully disagree on that. I have been training kbs for over twenty years and have owned cast iron from 8s to 48kg. from the start and used fixed weight comp bells in gyms for over 15 years plus I own an original Iron Edge 40 kg. (with lead plates) adjustable that has served me well for almost twenty years including wedging an extra 2kg. plate in to complete timed S&S with 42 kg. And last December I bought a v2.0 Bells of Steel adjustable. Both of my adjustables work perfectly for all kb exercises and the mechanics are the same as the fixed weight comp bells. As always, technique matters.
The argument for getting cast iron kettlebells boils down to (1) if you are on a budget (2) you literally only want to do TGU and some accessory movements. So if you are struggling with bills and want to train hardstyle, they are a go-to. Otherwise, it's like turning bolts with pliers.
Weight accuracy doesn't matter, grab it and swing. Like said competition, yes, it matters. For the average joining the living room, no. I have 5 KBs and couldn't tell you the weights.
it may be a remarkable difference in the weigth, by some manufactorers you can expect variation of 5%. So 32kg bell could be 30,4kg or 33.6kg. That ist a huge difference
As a beginner, I am attracted to the rep adjustable kettlebells for the weight flexibility and compactness. Are those good enough for the key exercises I hear about with kettlebells?
@@lebe-stark looks like I just made the right choice! I just added a 16 and 20kg bells to my set. Wish I could afford the atlas/appolos, I’m gonna have to “train with what I’ve got”. Appreciate your walk through on the various beginner moves. Learned how not to hurt myself so far! And you beginner work outs are gassing me big time! In a good way!
Any chance of getting some Lebe Stark branded Atlas/Apollo KBs in your shop? I find comp bells not ideally comfortable due to my long forearm/big hands
Kettlebell sports athlete here. Got my hands on a set of pros a while back. And it was a nice feeling, i'll admit that. But. I'm pretty sure not many athletes will use them, exactly for that reason! You will have to deal with normal round ones in competition, and, having had no conditioning with the pros, it will hurt like hell. As long as the pros are not the standard in actual competitions, athletes will continue to use round, hollow core ones, i'm guessing.
solid iron kettlebells are best get the rattle can and spray them any colour you want and you can do some art on them I worked with 24kgs at the gym i worked at they felt a bit light my 24kgs at home were 28kgs painted them over 3 or 4 times had to look closely to see 28kg paint them make them your own
To be fair, while I agree coop’s shoulder press technique is sub optimal, he’s also using a 4kg (in the clip you used 🙂) and which such a light kettlebell it’s a lot easier to use subpar form …
I can't believe you just talked for 11mns about this... The tool is a tool, implement, nothing else...how good is it depends on the trainee. My first gym was stinky basement, old barbells, dumbells, machines...and the most jacked, fit, the most dedicated dudes were lifting there. When I went to "fancy" ones, comfortable, nice machines, barbells and cute kettlebells, colours, with handles for sensitive hands and waxed forearms. Every one of them was full of sissies, make-believe strong, fit, etc. The point - it doesn't matter what type of bells you have...you'll get used to them. Adapt. And yes, competition pro bells are a scam for an average Jo. Useless, too expensive. I have pairs of comp fitness 18, 24 & 32's, and they're as good as I make them - when traininig. And I had cast ones, great, and vynils completely fine... Sorry for my honesty. And yes, dude, LS bells are way too expensive, even with 10% discount.
While you are generally correct, if you get a crappy bell, that has a bad handle and wierd window you may learn poor technique and then get thrown off if you go somewhere with good/different bells. Worse yet, someone (obviously not you) might think ALL kettlebells were like the one they have and then assume KB training wasn’t for them because it hurts too much. When people (influencers) say “ideally you should buy competition bells” why? Because they are all the same size so the technique you learn will apply more easily to whatever weight bell you move up to, but any bell is better than nothing, so buy what you can afford
I think you misunderstood Coop’s diminishing returns comment. I think he means that you can only go so far with the bells, because with bars you can keep slapping on weight. His lack of form reveals that he is not even remotely versed in the world of kb’s. Context is everything.
Interesting point of view! If that's his perspective of "diminishing" returns, I'd say it's worded the wrong way. Spot on with your observation about his skill…
@@lebe-stark I like Coop for his product reviews. Lots of research and energy. For KB instruction, I will look to the top competitors and coaches. I love the feel of competition bells. Thanks for the expert demos.
I agree, because he doesn’t realize that even though I can swing, clean and do other things with my 32k, I use my light bell for everything, more often than not… okay I never swing with it, but I use it for all my warmup stuff… great for prying goblet squats, bottoms up presses, etc
@@lebe-stark Diminishing returns is a business term. If something has high diminishing returns it means that the more you spend the less value it returns. Spending twice as much on a kettlebell does not mean you get twice the value (according to Coop). I.e. you don’t have to spend a lot to get good results with kettlebells.
Technically, he’s not wrong, but that doesn’t mean you can’t start with KBs for the first couple of years(at least), and then move on to Heabier barbell work while still using the KBs to supplement your lighter accessory, and conditioning work. In fact, I’d argue that this will make you better at both overtime. Same goes for adding in some sandbag training too.

@ru8775 I'll put in my thoughts because the average consumer will not consider these differences when purchasing. 1. Our handles are contoured and textured for maximum grip and comfort, not just a straight, smooth tube, with a 90 degree angle that turns into the horn. 2. The distance from our handle to the bell has been refined through many prototypes leading to the perfect balance and wrist angle when holding the bell. I noticed the other, people's wrists are bent back at 90 degrees to accommodate for the imperfect dimensions. This also leads to the bell feeling bottom heavy in flight. 3. Our contouring has been refined through hundreds of prototypes. I won't go into all the details, but if this is not done correctly it leads to an unstable rack and lockout position. 4. Our bases are wider and hollow. This gives a more stable platform, an extra handhold, and a higher center of mass. 5. Our coatings are not paint but an industrial strength urethane. 6. We sleep easy at night knowing the people who manufacture our kettlebells have ethical pay and working conditions even if it means less profit and higher cost.
