    Hello There, I am from Canada. My intention was to apply for the D7 Visa in 2023. I am very confused as to where I fall now.
    I will be 60 years old in 2 months. I am self-employed... I work one:one with clients, as a business coach and brand strategist. I am not looking for a temporary stay visa, I intend to move and live in Portugal and eventually get citizenship. On the D7 I make enough money to sustain myself but this digital nomad visa changes everything. You are requiring 4 times the income which, is $4600/month (CAD). I have never made that much a month nor do I need that kind of income to live comfortably in Portugal. I just want a simple, happy life in Portugal.
    In 2 months I will qualify to apply for my Canada Pension Plan which I was going to consider (depending on how much I am eligible for, taking it 5 years early) and supplement that with my business income. My clients are global. UK, Spain, Italy & USA. I'm a single solo business. My income fluctuates each month (hence considering taking my CPP early).
    I heard somewhere that now for the D7 we cannot supplement with income outside Portugal. This is really upsetting news since so very many people, just like me have successfully moved to Portugal already.
    What should I be doing?

    In my humble opinion, there is NO WAY a US company will pay any kind of tax/fee/contribution in a foreign country. I hope they re-consider social security contribution issue. The simple solution would be the visa applicant pays it in addition to the tax.

      Dear Mr.Jacob, there are several possible solutions. Some countries have waived Social Security and oblige remote workers to have health insurance in their country.
      However, Portugal has not taken such a clear option, so companies that do not want to have a permanent establishment in Portugal to process wages will have to look for other options, and there are some viable ones.

    Does this new digital nomad visa still require someone to obtain a 12 month rental/lease for residency the same as the D7? I probably qualify for either, and my intent IS to move to Portugal full time, but my hesitance on the D7 is committing to ONE place in Portugal for a full year. I'd like the flexibility to move around and see what part of the country really feels right.

    Just watched the video. I am a USA IT Professional working W-2 in the USA, and they will let me live and work remote in Portugal, but they will not establish a tax residency or relationship with Portugal to pay my taxes or social Security directly to Portugal. However, I have no problem at all paying any necessary taxes to Portugal myself in addition to whatever is paid to the USA.. Does this D8 allow me to do this? I know the D7 does not allow this.

      This is exactly what I want to know. My company wants to use an employer of record but will this visa make it unnecessary as the company needs to be outside the US. An employer of record is essentially a US company in my case in portgual that my company is funneling money to so my company doesn’t have to sent up a Portuguese entity.

    As usual, top-quality content, thank you! 39:52 I think this needs clarification. Please help me here because I am not a native English speaker. And, I do not know Portuguese. Can someone please read the requirement written in Portuguese? It may be result of English translation. "Need to stay 183-day consecutively" is very different from "Cannot be outside the country 183-day consecutively".
    In the case of "Need to stay 183-day consecutively" , I do not really understand how this will work.

    • @GlobalCitizenSolutions
      @GlobalCitizenSolutions  Год назад +1

      Dear Mr.Jacob
      The 183-day rule is a tax residency rule, and note that it is not the only criterion for becoming a tax resident in a given country.
      The D7 refers only to civil residence and the rule that applies to it in order to be renewed is not to be absent from the country for more than 6 consecutive months or 8 interpolated months in each of the authorization validity periods.

    What would be the proof of tax residency? Like a document that states that I am a tax payer in my country of origin/residence? or would I need something else?

      The law does not determine which document, only that proof is provided.
      Some countries issue certificates attesting to tax residence, this is the case in Portugal, in some countries the only way is to provide proof of the last tax return, but in general, it will be any document, issued by an official entity, that can demonstrate the country in which a given citizen is taxed. This document, in order to be submitted to the Portuguese authorities, will need to be apostilled or legalized by the competent authorities of the issuing country.

    Joana mentioned that the stay rules for the residency version of the digital nomad visa is the same as any other residency visa - no more than 6 months in a row out of a country, and no more than 8 months total over the term of the visa. Do these rules also apply to the temporary 1-year short stay visa as well, or are there different rules for short stay visas vs residency visas?

    Can the digital nomad visa provide a pathway to Portuguese citizenship?

    • @GlobalCitizenSolutions
      @GlobalCitizenSolutions  Год назад +1

      Dear Mr. Cass, a digital nomad visa is the first step to permanent residency and citizenship. Then, after you have stayed in Portugal for 5 years, you can apply for citizenship, provided that you are eligible and meet the requirements.
      Reach us at www.globalcitizensolutions.com/contact-us/, and a team member will contact you.

    Hello. Thanks for the stream Joana, João and Gizane. I am a remote worker from Ukraine with my only contract with a Ukrainian enterprise and income enough to qualify for a Digital Nomad visa in Portugal. I have been living here for more than 190 days permanently and have a year long rent contract. I got all the numbers - NIF, NISS and NUSS and based on EU kind and welcoming attitude towards Ukrainians, I am allowed to stay within EU (say Portugal) under Temporary Protection regime till 2024.
    So is there any reason for me to apply for 1 year Digital Nomad visa if my long-term intention is to go back to Ukraine when the war is over and russia is defeated? Though I am very grateful to Portugal for welcoming us.

    • @GlobalCitizenSolutions
      @GlobalCitizenSolutions  Год назад

      Thank you so much for sharing your experience.
      The temporary protection regime granted you with a regular residence permit, the main difference is that it was through an expedited procedure.
      Thus, the only advantage of switching to a regular permit would be the long-term prospect of remaining in Portugal, as the renewal would allow you to stay more than two years.
      Notwithstanding, the general hope is that the conflict and the dangerous situation in Ukraine will come to an end quickly, if these conditions continue for more than 2 years, it is expected that a mechanism for the renewal or extension of the residence permit will be created.
      Therefore, this temporary protection status seems perfectly adequate, in addition to benefiting from a more expeditious and flexible procedure, which is a very important advantage in any immigration process, but especially in a situation such as this one.

    How many taxes do I have to pay in Portugal? If I apply Visa Digital Nomad for the first time, for example in Spain, I have to pay IRNR 24% per year

    • @GlobalCitizenSolutions
      @GlobalCitizenSolutions  Год назад

      Hi Rodrigo, Portugal taxes on worldwide income. By using the NHR statute and existing Double Taxation Agreements, many advantages can be obtained.
      All in all, in the best case scenario, in a 10-year window that can last the NHR, income derived from work can be taxed at 20%, income such as interest, dividends and royalties can be exempt, capital gains tend not to be exempt and pensions may be taxed at 10%.
      Social security costs will depend on the type of work relationship that is established.

      @GlobalCitizenSolutions  Год назад

      Dear Mrs.Kate Carter,
      What the law provides in terms of income, in DNV, and without prejudice to other requirements and a specific assessment, is the demonstration that the applicant has a passive income corresponding to the Portuguese national minimum wage. As there is no further specification, we have to assume that it refers to the gross value, so the profit, being net, would not be the reference amount. Please contact us www.globalcitizensolutions.com/contact-us/ and a member of the team will get back to you.

    • @mrsscants

    does this digital visa can be changed or converted into golden visa after purchasing of certain amount of property in Portugal 🇵🇹?

    • @GlobalCitizenSolutions
      @GlobalCitizenSolutions  Год назад

      Technically there is no impediment, but it is not a switch, i.e., it won’t be possible to convert a Digital Nomad Visa into a Golden visa upon renewal just by meeting the requirements. The Golden Visa procedure is absolutely different from the Digital Nomad Visa, thus it would be necessary to start the process from the beginning.
