- This orange frame Fender/JBL D110F from 1978 is actually a K110. Fender wanted to maintain the "F" designation model speakers when JBL was transitioning/evolving to the "K-Series" to improve the power handling specs and complete the product line. I've found the production dates of orange frame Fender/JBL "D-Series" loudspeakers to be from 1974-1978.
The issue with these great vintage speakers is their age. Oxidation takes it's toll on everything. Those of you over 30 understand this concept...lol. The cone dries out and gets brittle. The spider loses its restorative spring. Thermal cycling from use...especially hard use...takes it's toll on the voice coil. The AlNiCo magnet loses some charge. The cast iron motor housing collects debris inside and should be thoroughly cleaned. Luckily enough, there are excellent parts to keep these gems alive, and the magnetizer is crucial to keep the motor strong for full frequency response. Renewed for another few decades of enjoyment with proper treatment.

Love this stuff. I must truly be a guitar equipment junkie ... But after 62+ years what else would one expect?
That was interesting; thanks for posting. Wish you were a bit closer...
Have you experimented with compounds that could restore or reinforce the brittle 50 year old cone?
Thinned down PVA...Elmer's Glue...can bandaid it.
Can one use an amplifier speaker as a home speaker?
@@ericgonzales854 yes, of course. But...there are speakers that are designed these days to be either sound "producers" vs. "reproducers". JBL has a Technical Note on the differences. A Google search might lead you to it. Keep in mind that the early JBL HiFi speakers for home use became musical instrument amplifier speakers. Refinements in the engineering art has evolved different speakers for different uses. Great question!
