If possible, please record another video of this Zellaton room. No worries if not possible. Thanks for the superb coverage.

It is fascinating that semi open, damped enclosures are so rare in the industry and resonating pipes are so popular.

Yeah, kinda like it... but what happens to room placement? Do you still need them like 4 meters from the front wall? (Kinda joking about the 4M especially in a small room but you get my point.) ;-)

It's not as simple as making the back open. You can control and suppress any small faults or inconsistencies of driver behaviour much better if you let them operate in small boxes which you can dampen heavily and control precisely. When you push this design further you go from semi-open baffle to full open which is even harder and then to boxless speakers, e.g. the IO Design naked loudspeakers. It becomes extremely hard to control drivers well enough and most companies fail doing so. The idea has been around for decades but only few succeed in creating a product that works well. As difficult as building a great loudspeaker chassis is, it's even more difficult to get away with it. But removing it and done right creates amazing results.

Even given the BS youtube compression I've never heard drums rendered as accurate on any other speaker, is that what you experienced in the room? and do you know what DAC they were using ?

During my visit to this room in 2023, everything seemed great. However, on my most recent visit in 2024 in Munich, it felt a bit too bright for my liking. I brought along some companions from the UK and Asia, and they all agreed that something was definitely off.

Not open baffle, but aperiodic (lossy) vented. Good idea for midrange (avoids congestion) and you might be able to do it for bass with enough woofer area, but not practical for the deepest bass - there, sealed box shines best, followed by vented enclosures when a lot of output is needed from the fewest drivers.

To me the Wharfedale Elysian 4 in piano walnut are a dream at 10k a pair. It's crazy what the higher end market has going on at insane to justify prices, but i love that it exists.

Does a $270,000 speaker sound better than a $80,000 speaker?🤯 And what does sound better mean really besides accuracy. Great coverage as always. I can buy one hell of a vehicle for that coin and have one hell of a stereo system on wheels.🤔😬

It's true that the pricing in the industry in general is hard to justify nowadays, but if there's demand, you can't blame the mfg for supplying it.
