I suggest looking into a conservation easement, and/or a farmbill program that fits your long term goals. Manage your grassland per what you local biologist recommends, and enjoy !

Wow! That is sad to hear. Is this part of the new pipeline? In Wisconsin, that would certainly be something to take up with the State Government, as the Sharp-tail population status is under review. The lottery-based hunting season on them has been suspended due to poor reproductive success lately (in part).
