Ocean Plaza ended up being a regular hangout for me on the Rock the Boat cruise, most of the lesser-known acts played in there, they had a few bands playing in the Limelight Lounge, but it was far too small
Looking forward to sailing on her in April. I love that she has retained some very Italian design features. Loving all the outdoor areas. I do love a good deck space and retaining a promenade style is a win for me. Shall definitely try out that steakhouse. Thanks for a great review of the ship.
Ok. Just disembarked yesterday. Loved some of the Italian decor, other bits not so much. Theatre was great! Food was very disappointing overall. Very limited menu and there was a distinct lack of seasoning. Best food was the BBQ lunch, the pizzas and deli tastiest. Enjoyed a high tea where the sweet offerings were better. Lunched in the Italian restaurant one day. Was worth the extra $ however the main dining room food was bland and rushed. Ive been on her and won't return.

I'll be sailing Carnival Luminosa this summer to Alaska with my family. I haven't been on a Carnival cruise years ago since I was a child and my last cruise was back in 2012 celebrating my quinceñera on the Disney Dream

Hi Adrian. Luminosa is not bad at all, although they do love that rust/brown motif on the walls and staircases, don't they? Her layout was great, and the public spaces were well appointed. They do Blue very well. And this ship has a magrodome over the main pool, which will pay off very well in Alaska for sure. The ship is very nice, the transfer and refit was done well, I think. Thanks for the tour.

You say the Lido Marketplace has traffic issues but all in all, from your video, I think the ship layout is much better than Splendor. But yes, your assessment of Alchemy on Luminosa is sound. To me, it smacks of an egregious afterthought. In any case, I'd like to give Luminosa a try if it sailed out of Sydney.
Thanks Adrian for a great ship tour. Very detailed and comprehensive. I am afraid the décor does not push my buttons. A bit garish and too much bling. Now I am showing my age... However, if I won a prize trip I am sure I would happily do a cruise on her.
I did indeed hit that suggested "subscribe" button, but I think I busted my monitor... and my fist. I'm kidding but I would like to give the Luminosa a try if she comes to Sydney when I get some time off from work.
I just got home a few days ago from this Cruise 🚢 was absolutely beautiful. It was my first cruise sadly we encountered some problems mainly the staff. Worker at the bar knew we where new I was trying to buy drinks for my wife with my money so she could just have fun without using her money asked him how do I pay or switch the card so she don’t have to keep using her keycard and getting charged he says you can pay me cash so I go get cash out the machine come back a different guy waits on us I pull out the cash he says no I can’t accept that so I looked back at the other guy who told me that asked him why he told me to get cash out if you don’t accept it according to what this guy is telling me he denied ever saying that causing a odd situation where his boss had to calm the situation down because I wasn’t backing down I don’t tolerate lying and making me look like a fool in front of everyone just so he could lie and save his job.We soon realized he was trying to pocket the money for himself which I personally honestly didn’t care if he did that put a little money in his pockets they work hard on those ships but the fact he made me look like I was lying so that was the problem I had with the situation and 3 different people heard him tell us to get cash out. Then on my wife’s b day we come back to are room around 9:45pm and it’s flooded asked them 6 times what happened nobody would tell me until I got really mad finally guy says a pipe burst from the plumbing. Then they move us to an extremely loud floor 8 which is right under the breakfest lunch eating area they give us new key cards to are rooms we get up there with clothes and got are hands full carrying crap from are flooded room and the damn key cards didn’t work. So my wife had to go back downstairs and get them to activate them then we get inside are new room and the entire USB light station doesn’t work so we couldn’t charge are phones they had to come back and replace that. Then I got kicked out the gym while I had already been working out for 30 minutes guy claimed I had the wrong style shoes on. I had all I could take with some of there staff I was so pissed so finally I tell them my mom works for carnival and royal carribean which she does she’s a piano bar player and how Im surprised on how I’m not having a good experience with some of the staff here been a rocky start then ohhhh everyone’s tuned changed quick the guy in the gym starts telling me where I can find and get the right shoes and then I can come back and train then they start making phone calls to my room from guest services managers where gonna provide you a free meal anything you want and drinks which they did but man that was really disappointing with some of the staff that it had to get to that point I had just got out the hospital not to long ago from surgery I just wanted a stress free experience on the boat but that didn’t happen .The trip itself the scenery the places we went was absolutely amazing beautiful so I just took in all the positive out of it and enjoyed it but I still highly recommend others to go on this trip guess we where just unfortunate to run across a few bad apples of the staff members but the rest of the staff on the ship where great hard workers nice doing everything they could to help out and provide good services. The places we saw the towns the people where nice at the towns we visited the food gets 5 stars the ship experience give it 3 stars would have gave it 5 stars but encountered to many problems.
After being on the Panoroama, this ship looks small, and dated. I was considering it for the cruise from Brisbane to to Seattle, but 29 days on this ship could yield cabin fever.
I think that’s a fair comment, especially if you’re used to something bigger with more in the way of attractions and features. Luminosa is quite traditional in terms of her onboard experience.
Thanks Tracy. There are crew around that keep an eye on things and I have a feeling the adults in the area will do a little self-policing as well haha.
It’s not the norm per se. A lot of other ships have more pools. Have a look at my Grand Princess and Pacific Encounter ship tours and Ovation of the Seas tour. They all have a few more and are quite different.
Hi Sharon - here's a link to my actual review of that cruise experience: ruclips.net/video/k_28UmFkym0/видео.html Typically, Carnival cruises will attract a lot of children, even outside of school holiday periods. The line doesn't have a cap on the number of children that can be onboard so that's worth keeping in mind.
The Lido Marketplace, which includes crew served food station plus the burger bar, taco bar, pizzeria and Deli, and BBQ. Brunch is also served from 8:30am to 12pm in the main dining room.
Yes, all cruises are very good at catering for varying dietary requirements and vegetarians are definitely well-catered for onboard. You should make sure you record your dietary needs when you make the booking and once onboard, speak to the restaurant manager/maitre'd to make sure they're aware.
Hi Dan. No, not yet. But it is coming. Having said that, I sailed on Celebrity Eclipse in December (she has Starlink) and Luminosa’s internet was significantly faster. I was achieving download speeds of 30-40MBPS, on Eclipse I would average 1-3MBPS.
@@TheCruiseandTravelGuy Thanks for your reply. If you don't mind me bugging you, did you do any wifi calling? Being able to make internet calls would be kind of important to me. It was great on RC's Navigator of the Seas but almost impossible on Carnival Splendor.
@@entoncesminnesota I used wifi calling from my iPhone, through my telco provider. There was a slight delay but it worked well enough. I also used FaceTime audio and that was likewise pretty decent. I didn’t try FaceTime audio/visual.
Not quite an apples/apples comparison there. Quantum wins for its more contemporary design and tech/fun features like dodgem cars and indoor skydiving but comes at expense of a lot of people onboard which can cause chaos at tender ports, plus USD currency onboard adds to the expense. Encounter and Luminosa win for AUD onboard. Luminosa beats Encounter for inclusions onboard especially around food, plus has bigger cabins. Encounter wins for general onboard ambience and design. Hard to say. Have a look through my channel - I have a Pacific Adventure Review from March this year, a Luminosa review from earlier in the year and an Ovation review (super music cruise) from November last year but as a sister ship to Quantum, you'll get the picture. Happy researching.

Outstanding photography, good sir! But unrelated . . . why do SOME British/Aussies not pronounce a final "R" of their words? An example is the word "bar" pronounced as "baah."
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the tour. I believe what you're referring to is an accent. It's interesting to note that people around the world have accents that differ, even when speaking the same language. I suppose it's all part of the joy of sharing the planet with so many different people 😁
What do you mean by “different levels”? I have a balcony and interior cabin tour on my channel in a separate video - here: ruclips.net/video/DLMOIPKKRvY/видео.html
Medication is the best bet for serious sea sickness - there are natural alternatives which can help too. Things like wrist bands, ginger tablets, green apples, fresh air.
We book midship and as low as possible to minimise the rocking sensation. My wife suffers from it. She takes 1 Dramamine tablet daily and she’s fine even in rough seas.
• No walk around promenade deck, rather the rear 25% is blocked off, the front 25% is blocked off and thus only a small portion of the deck is available for use • The top deck, floodlights are inwards focused, right into one’s eyes, i could not see the stars, skyline or ocean at night, was annoying. • The rear pool deck has large lounge beds taking up the entire rail space and thus the majority cannot use the rails as the area is essentially off limits other than to lounge bed users
I don't recall exactly, but from memory it opened at either 6 or 7am and went through to quite late, maybe 10pm. Hopefully someone who reads your comment can confirm.
It is a bit strange. The main Carnival Corp reciprocity loyalty system in Aus is P&O Australia cruises contributing to status with Princess' Captain's Circle.
We just took a seven-day cruise with Luminosa sailing from Seattle to Alaska, in Aug 2024 . The ship is old, the furniture has tattered ripped pieces falling off and the food is not very tasty. This video must be old because the experience we had was horrible. There was only one show the entire week and the rest was raunchy comedy. We arrived in Victoia BC at 830 pm, too late to visit the downtown or take a tour Never again will I sail with CARNIVAL LUMINOSA
This video is from early 2023 soon after Luminosa first arrived in Brisbane. The furnishings then looked sort of tired as well, but then again, the overall design is rather chaotic lol.
its beyond me why carnival keep sending us old broken down ships theyd never make anyone cruise on these ships in the US , they took our best 2 ships from us and gave this rubbish to us to put up with , its bad food cuts as well on both ships , cruising before covid was the very best on carnival , now i will never cruise again with them again , until they go back to the way cruising was before . they have nothing to do during the day and the shows are so outdated they are really bad . carnival said ttey were taking spirit class ships away but liok what we have now spirit class costa rejects , they constantly have problems , floods , pool shut , roof stuck shut , the floors in the corridores are not even straight they have hills in them , they have humming in the walls in the cabins
How annoying. All I wanted to see was what the toddler pools and what things for kids looked like as we’ve never been on a cruise. Instead I got a run down of every single place you can get smashed on board and where I can go gamble. I don’t care for dropping off my child like he’s some sort of hinderance to my life so I can go enjoy sErEnItY aDuLt only dRiNkS 🤨🤨 Where were the pools, the slides, the kids activities. Next time maybe include that. I watched 20 mins of talking for absolutely nothing. 😂
You’re just a peach aren’t you 😂 I covered ALL of the pools, actually. And here’s a little bit of info that you might find useful ☺️☺️☺️ there are no slides onboard! Uh oh 😰 Don’t lament the 20 minutes you “wasted”, but rather understand that what you watched was a true representation and description of the ship and its facilities - i.e. a “ship tour”.
Thanks Les. It actually somehow came out better on camera than I recall it in person... so that's a worry 🤣
Loved the review, it looks easy to get lost. What currancy was used onboard? AUD or USD?
Thanks Neil! It’s AUD while in Australia and they’ll transition back to USD when she repositions to North America.
Worked for 7 contact on that ship
Amazing 😄
I did indeed hit that suggested "subscribe" button, but I think I busted my monitor... and my fist.
I'm kidding but I would like to give the Luminosa a try if she comes to Sydney when I get some time off from work.
😂 love it
It doesn’t look like Luminosa is scheduled to visit Sydney anytime soon, but you never know!
Thanks for sharing your experience and sorry to hear that it was not all smooth sailing!
Lol!! Punctuation is your friend
Reckon the internal designers were on the Kava 😊😜😳🤪
🤣
After being on the Panoroama, this ship looks small, and dated. I was considering it for the cruise from Brisbane to to Seattle, but 29 days on this ship could yield cabin fever.
I think that’s a fair comment, especially if you’re used to something bigger with more in the way of attractions and features. Luminosa is quite traditional in terms of her onboard experience.
I’m on this ship right now until Thursday July 21
Hope you're enjoying your time onboard!
@@TheCruiseandTravelGuyI am
Great tour I’m super excited. I was trying to figure out how will they keep under age people out of serenity when the bbq is in the same area.
Thanks Tracy. There are crew around that keep an eye on things and I have a feeling the adults in the area will do a little self-policing as well haha.
@@TheCruiseandTravelGuy I’m booked to sail on the Christmas sailing I’m so excited.
Only one small pool? I’ve never been on a cruise.. is this the norm?
It’s not the norm per se. A lot of other ships have more pools. Have a look at my Grand Princess and Pacific Encounter ship tours and Ovation of the Seas tour. They all have a few more and are quite different.
Decorations is too busy not sure if my eyes will handle those bright multicoloured interior specially in resto may be am getting old. Lol
It is very busy lol. It’s not my taste either, and has dated quite poorly compared to new products from other cruise lines and even Carnival itself.
Is there a drinks price list?
I don’t have a recent one, but if you google or check out cruisecritic you should be able to find one.
@@TheCruiseandTravelGuy thank you
you can see how similar the layout is to the Carnival Legend.
Were there alot of children on the cruise and did you find the food was of high standard?
Hi Sharon - here's a link to my actual review of that cruise experience: ruclips.net/video/k_28UmFkym0/видео.html
Typically, Carnival cruises will attract a lot of children, even outside of school holiday periods. The line doesn't have a cap on the number of children that can be onboard so that's worth keeping in mind.
thank you great video...as we are Brisbane based however the choices are very little@@TheCruiseandTravelGuy
What restaurants are included free for lunch?
The Lido Marketplace, which includes crew served food station plus the burger bar, taco bar, pizzeria and Deli, and BBQ.
Brunch is also served from 8:30am to 12pm in the main dining room.
Does this cruise have vegetarian food options?
Yes, all cruises are very good at catering for varying dietary requirements and vegetarians are definitely well-catered for onboard. You should make sure you record your dietary needs when you make the booking and once onboard, speak to the restaurant manager/maitre'd to make sure they're aware.
Do you know whether the Luminosa has the new (faster, better) Starlink wifi?
@@TheCruiseandTravelGuy Thanks so much for all that information!
Adrain, Luminosa, Encounter or Quantum of the Seas? Adults and late teens.
We were going to book Buut heard the food wasnt flash?? can anyone thats done a trip on her comment???
this Vid would of been great if it went into the 3 Base cabins?? inside, OV and Balc..

I suppose it's all part of the joy of sharing the planet with so many different people 😁
What about the cabins and the different levels
What do you mean by “different levels”?
I have a balcony and interior cabin tour on my channel in a separate video - here: ruclips.net/video/DLMOIPKKRvY/видео.html
@@TheCruiseandTravelGuyshe means the different decks I believe
@@Timlba63Jonesy thanks - I think I covered all of the different public decks in the tour.
@@TheCruiseandTravelGuyI’m on this ship right now
@@Timlba63Jonesy enjoy!
The only thing that I don’t cruise is my fear of seasickness, any tips people?
Medication is the best bet for serious sea sickness - there are natural alternatives which can help too. Things like wrist bands, ginger tablets, green apples, fresh air.
Lower levels, being Dramamine, sea bands
I find the ocean is rougher in colder months…so there you can narrow down the chance.
We book midship and as low as possible to minimise the rocking sensation. My wife suffers from it. She takes 1 Dramamine tablet daily and she’s fine even in rough seas.
I take travel calm ( original one) .. use the wrist bands and seems to work fine
• No walk around promenade deck, rather the rear 25% is blocked off, the front 25% is blocked off and thus only a small portion of the deck is available for use
• The top deck, floodlights are inwards focused, right into one’s eyes, i could not see the stars, skyline or ocean at night, was annoying.
• The rear pool deck has large lounge beds taking up the entire rail space and thus the majority cannot use the rails as the area is essentially off limits other than to lounge bed users
Why do cruise lines insist on making the pools so difficult to get out of
Great question
Is there a guys and a cherry on top on here
No, Luminosa doesn’t have either
Looks like they couldn’t get the Costa out of this ship..
lol I don't think they tried very much to be honest
What hours is the fitness center open?
I don't recall exactly, but from memory it opened at either 6 or 7am and went through to quite late, maybe 10pm. Hopefully someone who reads your comment can confirm.
😮😮
Carnival Dosen't recognise Princess cruise loyalty programs so I won't sail with them just Dosen't make sense to me
It is a bit strange. The main Carnival Corp reciprocity loyalty system in Aus is P&O Australia cruises contributing to status with Princess' Captain's Circle.
Even if they did have more washing stations, people still wouldn’t wash their hands.
You’re probably not wrong, but I still want the option because I actually will wash mine 😆
I don’t like this ship
She has good bones, but her decor is definitely not to my liking.
its beyond me why carnival keep sending us old broken down ships theyd never make anyone cruise on these ships in the US , they took our best 2 ships from us and gave this rubbish to us to put up with , its bad food cuts as well on both ships , cruising before covid was the very best on carnival , now i will never cruise again with them again , until they go back to the way cruising was before . they have nothing to do during the day and the shows are so outdated they are really bad . carnival said ttey were taking spirit class ships away but liok what we have now spirit class costa rejects , they constantly have problems , floods , pool shut , roof stuck shut , the floors in the corridores are not even straight they have hills in them , they have humming in the walls in the cabins
Hopefully within the next few years, Australia will get one of the newer Carnival ships to enjoy locally.
looks tacky
Can’t say I think much about the design, but a nice ship otherwise.
How annoying. All I wanted to see was what the toddler pools and what things for kids looked like as we’ve never been on a cruise. Instead I got a run down of every single place you can get smashed on board and where I can go gamble.
I don’t care for dropping off my child like he’s some sort of hinderance to my life so I can go enjoy sErEnItY aDuLt only dRiNkS 🤨🤨
Where were the pools, the slides, the kids activities.
Uh oh 😰
Don’t lament the 20 minutes you “wasted”, but rather understand that what you watched was a true representation and description of the ship and its facilities - i.e. a “ship tour”.
For kids club information and activities, head to the Carnival website.
Have a PeACHy day!
