Overnight Thunderstorm - Manchester, UK - 19 July 2014

  • This was quite a powerful thunderstorm that hit Greater Manchester at about 03:00 on a Saturday morning because of a Spanish plume. At the beginning, the storm was quite distant. Later on however, it was more or less directly overhead. The time delays between the lightning and the thunder were shortened a bit too, for some strikes. This is so that you're not staring at a black screen for too long.

I could hear this storm rumbling away from my home in Bolton, and I just knew you'd be out recording it! Great thunderstorm!
That lightning strike at 7:40 scared the shit out of me, I can't imagine what it did to you!

I remember this storm very well. I'm a mancunian myself and was living in Hyde at the time when it occured. One of my favourite storms I can remember. Good stuff.

This was probably one of the coolest thunderstorms we've had in Manchester, it'd be awesome if we actually had more storms like this, amazing to watch, I'm in Stockport and some of the strikes that night were very close to where I live, basically sounded like a gun or an explosion as soon as you saw the flash! Loved it

Wow, that's so beautiful. It has been same here in Western Finland for almost two weeks in a row. Every single night thunder's coming from the sea. I can't get footage of it because it'll strike so far that you'll see the flash but don't hear the rumble of it and secondly it'll strike only few times in 10 minutes because of 10 degree Celsius weather.

For a UK thunderstorm, this was great. The audio was super too - those thunders were rich and deep sounding. Really good on headphones.
On the NW England coast where I am, there was no thunder or lightning at all during the past week of hot weather (although we got 2 minor spells of lightning/thunder during the afternoon on 10th June).

Not all weekend no. There was a distant thunderstorm that came on Saturday evening, but that was really it. Sunday was quite a calm and settled day.

Well unfortunately Britain isn't in Tornado Alley, I'm afraid, so you'll just have to make do with this. I personally think this was an excellent storm.

Jordan Steele You American's just cannot help yourselves, you always have to be-little other countries, you will never change. Remember, the USA is part of a continental landmass, so obviously temperature differentials makes your country more prone to (super-cells), we rarely get the intense convection here in the UK, as we are a tiny little island. There is no need for you to be offensive, you will only make yourself look like an even bigger fool. I am sure that there is plenty of American storm footage on youtube. I suggest that you go and watch that. Thank you.

this is more reason for us to repent. turn from your sins and cry out to God-the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit for forgiveness of your sins. Have ever lied, stolen, used God's name in vain, looked with lust (Jesus said this is adultery), hated in your heart (this is murder), dishonoured your parents etc. the love of Jesus Christ that the Lord God and Saviour Jesus showed on the cross for you and me and the world.
He not only created us, but He loved us before anyone did and He died for you and me and the world for our sins. Jesus loves you so much-call on Him-there is no point going to hell fire forever and ever. The devil wants to torment you because he wants you to burn and melt in the lake of fire forever. you will be crying and asking for forgiveness to God-but it will be too late. This is why we are warning you out of love-not hate. we care for you-God does exist. He loves you remember that. But do you love Him-Jesus said in John 14:15-He loves Me, will keep My commandments.
Look at the food you eat, the flowers, animals, creation, your conscience etc. So think about it. your view may still not change but I have warned. Jesus is real-call on Him before its too late. Jesus can save you from sin and death- Jesus will break the sin and death of you. You will be born again with the spirit of God-humble yourself. 10/10 people die-where will you spend eternity?

Yes we should repent because we messed up the weather by taking mother nature for granted, we wreaked the system and balances for our own profit and comfort. Mother earth will be fine but we will cause our own end all by ourselves.
