Loved going to the cabin. I've only been there 7 or 8 times, but Bob was always in good spirit. He always valued his French heritage, but told me "I'm french at heart, Québécois forever, but I know the people of Hamilton made me who I am today." So he was a man who loved being in both world. Respect to my Cousin.. Be well in what ever music afterlife exist and be with Ron.. Much love brother.
I loved watching this so much. Bob has been a great influence on me through the Southern Ontario music atmosphere where I grew up. There's an adventurous spirit here that originated out of that Grant Avenue Studio that has been the soundtrack of my musical life and education starting with Baby Beluga that Dan Lanois recorded and that I used to listen to round and round on my older brother's hand-me-down portable record player as a child. These days, I dream of living in a shack like Bob and just making records and inventing sounds at the service of what the day asks for without any distractions. Thank you Bob for your work and your magic spirit. Peace to all who were close to Bob Lanois.
Bob’s album is hard to find on streaming services. Bob was my neighbour on Snake Road and gave my brother and I music lessons growing up. What an amazing documentary. I'm from Hamilton, still live here. Huge fan of Daniel and Bob Lanois and Music History in regards to Music Production here in Hamilton. This documentary hits home in many ways. What a creative, talented human. I hope to one be like him as I approach midlife. Gage Park, to the escarpment. The Steel Mills to the side of the road to Lake Ontario. Snake Road. This documentary left me feeling enigmatic. It's deep, bare to the soul, enlightening but sad with loss and the feeling of grief. This encapsulates, allowing someone to strive in hope to one day have such creativity, to have that cooperative correspondence for creativity, to one day it to parish like everything does. There are many points I can relate to. Location. The Music, Music History of the area, The Artists and Musicians, Being a caregiver for 10 years; the path and what it does to you. Giving it all, to the best of your ability. The social and emotional intelligence it takes to flourish in the moment of situation in relation to life and death. Everything engrossing but giving, and sometimes forgiving. Thank you for the documentary, this is something I've needed for a long time. I wish I could have crossed paths with Bob. Though, I may have a couple times, seeing Daniel Lanois play 4 times locally. Of all people in this world, Bob and Daniel are probably the two people that give me the inspiration for creativity everyday. Whether it's digital works, sound production or playing guitar and drums, or photography. May you Rest in Peace Bob. Your memory will always live on. Stay strong Daniel.Stay Creative. If I say the documentary didn't bring me to tears, I would be lying. Mostly because of the grief and loss and encompassing relation to the surrounding area.

A terrific documentary that needed to be made. Well done! Bob was a fantastic human being, generous, thoughtful, a spiritually minded artist. As Glen Marshall put so well, Bob was a multi-talented renaissance man. I first met Bob over 22 years ago and we made a couple of live off the floor music videos for a band in Hess Village that featured the incomparable Brian Griffith on guitar. Though we didn't stay in touch enough over the years, which I regret, he had a profound effect and influence personally on my own visual art journey at that time into photography and video filmmaking. I am grateful for that burst of creative enlightenment he expounded upon me. He had great style and wisdom. Bob helped open my eyes at a time when my eyes needed to be opened - to trust my own instincts and heart. When words are impossible to find, I shall focus on making pictures to tell stories, one frame narrative at a time. Thanks Bob.
This is a completely amazing documentary for a first time film maker. Incredible research, great questions and rapport with his subjects way beyond his experience. I met Bob during a session with the Original Sloth Band, of which my brother was a member. I was just a kid with no idea of what was going on but I knew magic was happening. 635 4789 was recorded that day. Many of my my early musical influences came from those very artists that were part of the Canadian folk music scene of the 70's. Great job, Dave. Oh, by the way, this is totally unbiased even though Dave is my nephew! So proud of you.

Thanks Dave for doing this documentary. I always wondered about the legend he had become and now can understand what a creative soul he was. You did such a fantastic job of putting this together with all the musicians included. The insert were he had light painted the church studio just blew me away. It's obvious to me that he had done a fair bit of light painting to get a result like that. I'm interested in finding more about his work as a photographer now. Especially his light painting.
Being local, and being invited to a studio session with The Buck Brothers a band based in The UK. Dan Achen gave me an invitation the night prior while The Buck Brothers played at The Underground in Hamilton to do photography. Catherine North is such a beautiful place. Not only for the building, but the destination where bands, musicians, artists, and technicians do their thing. Prior days before the gig and invitation. Unsure, and mostly forget how long it was. But I remember talking with Andy in digital forum, listing venues locally, getting phone numbers(for the band) and figuring out some informatics to get them a show locally. To this day, I have no idea if Dan Achen just organically showed up at the place scouting talent to record. Or if was a scheduled recording time the next day. I've always liked that awe-inspiring photo. Never knew Bob Lanois did it. And my jaw dropped when I seen it with the given explanation. I had to pause the video and be receptive to what I had just heard.
@@JustinC905 I'm a light painter myself so it certainly struck me but I seen some of the band photo Bob took early in the video and noticed that he was light painting many of the shots.
Dave this is an incredible detail of a prominent person in the Hamilton music scene. Very well done for your first documentary. My husband lived maybe 5-10 minute walk from this place and had no idea that this place had this background. The story telling and reminising is always wonderful to listen to. RIP Bob Lanois.
