Real Tool Reviews tested this impact wrench and it actually produces 326 ft lbs when tightening and 321 ft lbs loosening. The HF numbers are fairly conservative. I've had mine a year and have used & abused it on cars, trucks, and my boat trailer and it has never failed to bust loose a lug nut, suspension nut or bolt, etc. Best $35 I've ever spent.
I wished I had bought any impact wrench when I was 18 and had my first car
I've had mine since 2010 😮
I have had this impact for 6 years and do my own brake work on three cars and a pick up. I liked it so much. I bought another 3 years after I bought the first one. The new one is still untouched in the box. My first one is still going strong. Buy them when they are good.
@@karkule5919 lift a car? With an impact wrench?
@@karkule5919 I have no doubt it will, with power to spare.
i’ve watched a lot of videos on this impact wrench/driver. I would needed to buy an electric one because I have an air impact that I’ve had for about 25 years. But I just recently put a 50 foot long hose on my compressor so I can reach all the way out in my driveway or I do all my work because my garage is full of motorcycles. Because of the long hose, mike Aragon would not remove the Lugnuts on my ram pick up when I needed to inspect my brakes. So I went out today, September 21 2024, to Harbor freight to buy one of this model, the Chicago, half inch corded electric impact gun. It was $24.95 on a closeout sale. They are dropping this line of impact guns made by Chicago. There was a 15% off coupon available online which I used and got my impact gun for a little over $21 today…
I bought this gun today because of this video. This is the one that convinced me that this was good enough.
Thanks my friend for your review of electric impact wrench Chicago !!!! I just buy one today !!!! 👍👍👍👍
Cool review! That's exactly what I need an impact drill for, to remove the front end of my jeep wrangler. Man oh man!! I'm excited to go grab tomorrow morning!! I appreciate your work making this video !!
When I was stationed in the Philippines 1989-92 I ordered one from Harbor Freight. Used originally to remove front sprocket on belt drive 1983 Harley Davidson. Worked good. Still working now.
Did you fuk a lot of pinays?
So I just bought one of these tonight. It was on the discontinued shelf at harbor freight fo 26 buks. I haven't even tried it. I would be satisfied if it handles lug nuts. An axle nut? Holy crap. I will sleep better now, thank you. I'm pretty confident it will also help with the oxygen sensor. We will see. Thanks for this content. Cheers.
Still using mine and it’s working great 👍
I bought an East Volt 1/2 inch impact gun off Amazon that's around the same size as this gun. Harbor Freight discontinued this gun unfortunately and the new Bauer gun is huge for my needs. The East Volt actually has variable forward and reverse and works really well for the price.
You should see about doing a comparison video.
5:36 You might want to tighten the screws holding the tool together.
Another owner of this tool suggested to tighten them with Loc-Tite and you're good to go for years.
I'll agree with the comment that this impact wrench can put out over 300 ft lbs of force (don't go by break away force marketing of many models). Using a penetrating oil (Liquid Wrench) on rusted bolts and sometimes a heat gun will make it even easier and cut down the chance of stripping the bolt. If you use the impact wrench to put the bolts back on, use torque limiting extension bars to prevent over torquing the bolts or use HF 1/2" torque wrench ($20, sometimes on sale for $10). Good job on the video, it shows that you good tools without spending a lot.
2:40 Never use a regular socket on an impact wrench. They can do nasty things when they explode.
Mine is about 8 years old, not an everyday tool for me but it does get used for car and large lag screw wood jobs. It's got a lot of torque as evidenced by undoing really torqued service garage nuts on my RV. One thing though, I would put a little bit of duct tap across the brush access hole - mine brushes have popped out in dirt by unscrewing themselves.
Maybe by using a shorter socket and a short extension cord with at least a 12awg would make it perform better? Or is the gun just pretty weak? I have one and it struggles to remove 80 lb/ft lugnuts in my car with a 16awg 30ft extension, that's why I'm suggesting this.
Just bought this guy for $25 at HF. They have a clearance on it. Just got home. Grab it if you're thinking about it
@@leveragelifestyle8581 Thanks for the heads up 👍
Same here!
"Little bit of struggle but it got it off." I'll settle for that for now! I'd still want to use a torque wrench for the final installation bit.
thank you. great review
Good video, thanks.
Although it can handle lugnuts on a sedan, it failed to remove the CV axle nut on a 2005 Toyota Sienna.
That is exactly what I was wondering if it was powerful enough to do.. thank you for the video
Definitely I'm going to buy it 👍👍
I am doing the same 😉
Holy shit @ that axle nut. I'm buying one for sure.
nooooooooooo
This shit is trash man
I bought it when it was $39.99 with a 20% off coupon 15 years ago.
It is now $59.99 now. I used it once to remove tire in order to change brake pads and one time when I need to unscrew water heater anode rod. It works like a champ. Because it is corded, I normally unscrew tire nuts with breaker bar and use my M12 cordless tools to do the rest. It really help when I used it on changing Anode rod on water heater because with breaker bar with extension. That stupid won't move a bit until I used this impact wrench. By the way,
please make sure you use impact sockets.
I got mine for $34.99 about 15 years ago. They have a Bauer model now that is $79. It is about 70% more powerful BUT ...I never needed one that powerful.
@@HanstheTraffer Last year I almost need to use it because the Toyota Dealership tighten my oil filter canister so tight that with 1.5 feet extension bar still won't move; however, I was scared that I bring that plastic canister; therefore, I bought it back to dealer to unscrew it.
Just got my a$$ kicked by an axle nut today tryn to take off a steering knuckle with a breaker bar. The nut is still on the axle😖 I'll throw a few bucks at Harbor Freight on this one. Thanks for the review👊
Life With Blood,Sweat & Gears Motorsports good luck man👍
me any you both buddy ;( im next XD
did it work ??? going through pain with my axle nut aswell
Had one and it worked just as good as the DeWalt one I had till I left them both in the sand wash and they both got washed and burried in sand for several months .
Bought today July 23, 2024 on clearance with an additional 40%. $14.98 out the door Lol
Good impact just got one
Struggling to get that axle nut off on my 2012 Civic. The breaker bar just wasn't cutting it. Was looking for reviews of this impact to see if it had enough juice to get the job done, so thanks a bunch for the demo! I'll give it a shot.
Justin Pate if your axle nut is seized on you may have to hit it with penetrating oil first, let it sink in for a few minutes first.
Buy the Bauer this might not be enough
Did it work
I bought this cheapo Kawasaki one, and it is useless, it can tighten stuff up, but I can’t loosen anything. So I’m gonna get this one.
I’ve used this one for a couple years with no complaints
I bought one used it on my lug nuts, and it didn't tighten them tight enough I actually had to use a breaker bar which works a lot better than this
Don't trust this when tightening.. but takes off my lug nuts and all pretty well
I wish I would have tried it on my 1999 Honda Civic Crank pully nut. I had to stand on a 26" breaker bar with a 5 ft extension and still it wouldn't come loose, I had to jump on it.
How you get it out? I tried this tool and it didn't work
@@jtjimenez05 If you are referring to a 99 Civic crank bolt, as I said I had to jump on a breaker bar with a pipe on the end.
They're $59.99 now... Inflation?
49.99 now
@@Kendrickshayesjr $44.99 as of now, "regular price."
Just an update: Current price has increased to $44.99. Inflation!
Good weight to it! It’s heavy
Going to a junkyard to remove a tire off, you think it will work with a portable power station ( Stanley power supply).
It should
Got new tires over the summer and the tire shop must have over torqued my lug nuts. Couldn't get the lug nuts off with either a breaker bar or with this tool. How long do you have to hit it with this tool to get a lug nut to loosen? Looked pretty easy to me. Nice review but should have used a HF torque wrench to get those wheels back on.
I’ve never had problems removing lug nuts or other bolts and nuts. Try a long breaker bar or let the impact wrench work on it for about 30-60 secs
Difficult getting harbor freight sockets off due to that O ring type top in it. Anyone else take that off?
I could not take my harbor freight lug nut impact socket off too, were you able to finally take yours off? if yes please how did you do it? Thanks
@@ajilili3132 pry with screw driver. Once it's off, a little grease.
I gotta get one
Just help me out they show me you can take off a axle Bolt that's all I needed to know because because I'm doing an. Front axle job on a Grand Cherokee
I’ve taken off a few axle bolts with Impact with minimal effort, however, some people claim they had no luck. I’m satisfied
@@PhillipsVision Please do you know how to take off the the harbor freight lug nut impact socket off this impact wrench top, because I am having problem doing that after use
@@ajilili3132 mine just pull right off by hand. You may have jammed something for it to be stuck
@@PhillipsVision Ok Thanks, witt try it again
For now I just need help tightening down the 3/4" nut on my old school Nut Splitter to cut a frozen nut off. I can't safely turn it much at all. I'm thinking this should easily handle that, right? In my older years I find I have lost arm strength so this seems perfect.
It should work, but keep in mind it only has 230 ft/lbs of max torque
Doesn't come with any sockets I presume? I just need it twice a year to change out snow wheel/tires. So I need to buy 1/2" socket set? Seems obvious but any info for that? Going to the store tomorrow..
Does not come with any sockets, but if you only need one or two sizes Autozone or Advance Auto sells them. If you need various sizes, there are good deals on impact socket sets online.
@@PhillipsVision ah perfect. There's an Autozone real close to Harbor freight! Thanks! 👍
@@ZDUTCH1 check Harbor Freight first since they are cheaper, just make sure they are impact sockets and not chrome
I used it yesterday. On a Honda 80 torque. It could not remove it 🤔🤔🤔
The lugs on my truck are torqued to 140 ft lbs and it gets them done. If the studs and/or lugs are rusty it will struggle, though.
I have been trying to install a 3/8” self tapping screw n the frame of my Jeep. I already drilled the hole. Tap and die didn’t work. Metal too hard. Drill isn’t powerful enough. Will this drive that that screw in?
Carol Carpenter I think it should, it was powerful enough to break the bond of an axle nut. If it’s not Harbor Freight should exchange it and you can get a more powerful one by Bauer for about $30 more.
@@PhillipsVision Thanks
@@PhillipsVision Thank you.
i got one a few years back and it DID NOT work for me. I got mines for this same reason. To make changing a tire a lot easier but got nothing but disappointment instead
That's my issue as well...
How long has it been holding up
Randy Ledford I’ve had it for over 5 yrs. I don’t use it constantly but every time I do use it, it works great. For the price you can’t beat it.
I couldn't get off my lug nuts ... I bought one today and tryed it big fail..97 f250 ... Maybe I could use it to drive in a screw or something .. smh
Are you not going to put a dimple in that axle nut? How are you going to keep it from spinning off while you're driving?
This vehicle’s axle nut does not have a dimple or cotter pin like some vehicles. It is torqued tight and will not come off.
Never had one back off that I know of. Never. I’ve removed and replaced hundreds
Dude you need new ball joints on that thing
How can you tell?
Can you get to caliper and bracket bolts, looks a bit large for tight spots?
Yes, but you may need an extension
Anyone consistently have success using one of these HF drivers on Honda crank bolts? They are notorious for being stuck on real tight!
They sell a specialized socket online for the honda crank bolt. It is a thick walled socket so it had more heft to it.
@@Mixwell1983 But that helps with any 1/2in impact driver. The question was how good are the HF drivers with or without the special socket. This YT'er has an opinion: ruclips.net/video/exSqtZ6j2CY/видео.html
Hola amigos estoynpor compra una pistola chicago son buenas me las recomiendan
@Gary McDonald Español friend!
Mine is the same one and it isn’t strong enough to take off my lug nuts
FWIW In checking reviews it seems like using more substantial sockets seemed to add enough oomph to finish some jobs. The additional mass is the secret.
La acabo de comprar me costó 1000 pesos mexicanos funciona al 100
Estan a 30 dolares ya en los angeles. Voy por 2
can it work on the exhaust system flang bolts too?
I’ve never tried this impact wrench with those, but I don’t see why not
I have a issue with my car can u help
nabpreet butter what’s the problem?
@@PhillipsVision i have 2001 xterra 3.3,on sat when i came home i saw a huge pool of coolant. I saw a hose from heater core is leaking so i replaced that hose. Then when i started my car it stated to overheat. I took to a mechanic he replaced thermostat then it started to overheat while driving but stays good at idle. My radiator upper hose is warm but lower hose stays cold. So i bought raditor bleeder funnel. For 10 mins car run good with small air bubbles but after suddenly there is big air pockets and lot of coolant start to come out. Then again it stops then again after 10 mins there is a big air bubble. I remember putting head gasket maker in radiator. Do u think it happening because radiator is clooged. While driving if it overheats i pull over and park it and give gas then the temp drops which shows that the thermostat is working
@@PhillipsVision and 1 more thing since few months there is no heat through vents when idel only have warm air while driving
nabpreet butter do you know where the coolant is coming out from? Is it under your radiator, coolant reservoir or near your belts?
@@PhillipsVision it comes out from the radiator cap when we try to bleed air out using funnel
That tool sucked balls could not loosen the lug nuts on my car
This piece of crap wouldn't even break my lug nuts loose do not buy
