If you ever get the chance, go to Ocala, and go to Don Garlits museum of drag racing. Be prepared to spend a whole day in there. It's Unbelievable! God Bless Don👍
i introduced my 2nd wife to drag racing in early 2004 at sydney international race way, she took an instant like to what we call group 1 racing , several years later we saved enough for a holiday in the states , her dream was to ride the rocky mountaineer, mine was see big daddies museum, 1 i had since i was a teen, we did the train trip, attended a mellow yellow event , went on to the museum, spent the whole day there, she spent a lot of time in bigs little video room watching don's clips, amazingly to me she said she rated the museum as the best part of our trip, anyone out there who loves drag racing put the museum on your bucket list, you will not be disappointed
@@kurtbyars766 He shook my young hand back in the 60s as he signed an autograph for me. He actually took time to talk. I saw him race many times. Someone stole that autographed post card off my bookshelf when I had a party. That was in the 80s and I still am sore about it.
ooh yeah, he practically invented the sport, and by the time the 1980's rolled around, he was being called the old man by some of his opponents and TV broadcasters. Today it is 2024, Don Garlits is 92 yrs old, has outlived the many name callers now, and still advocates for drag racing. A cool dude indeed.
@@supertubr There are two versions. The one I rented at Blockbuster all those years ago was longer than the one on RUclips and on dvd from Don's store. It was on YT about 10 years ago, and I've been looking for it ever sinse.
There is still a close calls on you tube not sure if it is the version you are after though mate , I had the original vhs also and it seems to be the correct length of 54 odd minutes

DANG! BIG DADDY/SWAMP RAT/ TAMPA DON. Can't believe the man is still trying to set records to this day.
THX for posting.
If anyone, ANY ONE, deserves the legend badge, it is him!
thanks for sharing supertubr👍👍👍
Never really liked Garlits, but there's no denying what he did as a racer and how he advanced the sport. He's a legend for sure.
Not sure why someone wouldn't like Big but some just aren't real bright.
