- "We have a whole new year ahead of us - and wouldn't it be wonderful if we could all be a little more gentle with each other - and a little more loving - have a little more empathy - and maybe next year at this time we'd like each other a little bit more." - JUDY GARLAND
Judy Garland sings "Through the Years" on Episode #11 of "The Judy Garland Show." The show was taped on October 18, 1963, and broadcast on Sunday, January 5, 1964.
Judy had privately stated that "Through The Years" was her favorite song although publicly she would say that "Over the Rainbow" was her favorite so as not to disappoint her public.
Judy's performance here is nothing short of amazing.
I watch this every New Year's Eve.
Someone please like this so I can keep coming back.
At the time of her television show, it was considered a flop because of ratings. The TV western Bonanza, filmed in color, was the blockbuster. 61 years later, her extraordinary performances week after week are timeless in their emotion and artistry. Judy Garland has no peer.
"I'll come to you, smiling through the years." These words are inscribed on Judy's gravestone.
Yeah, her new one at Hollywood Forever. She's home at last now.
❤️
@@lanway13 Not exactly home. She was actually born in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
Judy Judy Judy!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Truly one of her beautifully haunting ballads. Yes, Judy is smiling at us through the years.
More than 50 years after her passing and she is still smiling at us through the years!
This is my absolute favorite Judy Garland live performance. It literally brings me to tears just about every time I watch. The words are so beautiful and the way she sings them is pure magic. Her voice was so big and her physical frame so small, you can literally see it bursting out of her as she tries to contain it. I love her so much. We miss you everyday, Judy. You’re never forgotten. And never will be.
What a talent! What a voice! What a storyteller! Judy Garland will be a divine human being. We didn’t even con-exist ...
empathy, that's what the world really needs. truly a beautiful woman with a beautiful soul!
She was the personification of love and empathy! A lovely lady who will never be forgotten! She was one of a kind! 50 years after her passing and will love you still the very end!
Never be another like her. We love and miss you, Joots.
That voice....speechless!
No one can compare with the great Judy Garland! She was one of her kind!
I LOVE JUDY GARLAND!!!!!!! I love this song and performance. It's so dramatic and she holds that note near the end so long!!! Judy's been my favorite singer since I was 12 years old. I'm 62 now. That's 50 years!!!!! This year on June 22nd she will have been dead 50 years!!! I remember the day she died. i was 13. There never was or WILL BE a better singer.
Me at 13...I'm 15. Just kidding, I'm 46.
You’re right about that. There will never be another quite like Judy Garland.
You can put all the Beyonces, Rihannas, Gagas etc together and they would still never equal one Judy. Everysong is sung with feeling and emotion which is missing nowadays.
Nobody compares with the great Judy Garland! Absolute nobody!
ABSOLUTELY
JUDY WAS AND STILL IS
THE GREATEST ENTERTAINER OF ALL TIME !!

Happy birthday, Judy. Never to be forgotten.
“We have a whole new year ahead of us. And wouldn’t it be wonderful if, if we could all be a little more gentle with each other, and a little more loving, have a little more empathy. And maybe, next year at this time, we’d like each other a little bit more.”
The world needs to act upon these words. Thank you for being you Judy. May you Rest In Peace.
Her voice had such a lightness, so fresh and youthful, and at the same time, strong and full and heard in the last row. What a talent 🏆👏
She knocks it right out of the park!!
That's what we need now. With everyone being so damn sensitive
Judy said that this was her favorite song of all, not Over the Rainbow as one might expect. The words are even on her crypt in California.
I’ve also heard a number of times that ‘Little Drops Of Rain’ was her favorite. I’m more inclined to believe that ‘Through The Years’ was really the one as it is inscribed under her name and the years she lived on her own grave. Even if it wasn’t her favorite, those words - “I’ll come to you, smiling through the years” - I find to be the best words to describe how Judy’s voice and smiling face always comes back to me on and on, no matter the fact that she died a decade before I was born. She lives still, thrives really, in all our hearts.
Outstanding as always Judy. ❤️
Incredible! More than 50 years after her demise and still can bring me into tears! Absolutely breathtaking!
Sang at our wedding 57 years ago....❤❤
Absolutely breath taking performance...chilling...
Only Judy Garland could deliver so an outstanding performance! She was one of a kind!
Who could be greater. 🙌💐
I'd like to think she was speaking directly to those SOBs at CBS who treated her so badly!
❤️
Absolutely and that manager who ran off with every cent she had
A magical being. The best female singer who will ever walk this earth. Thank you for everything you gave of yourself.
True words but for the "female" part, for Judy is the greatest singer regardless of gender the world has or probably will ever know.
@@wildsmiley Absolutely true! Well said!
I love what she had to say!
Such a great talent! 🏆.💖. 🌟. She gave so much to so many! She wanted and needed to be LOVED! 💔. Weep no more my Lady! RIP 🎵, 🕊 🕊 🕊
She gets me every time!💪🏿💪🏿❤️❤️
2:36 those words are marked on her grave. We miss you judy 💔
Judy forever. So amazing, vulnerable, strong...she makes me tear up...so there
So emotional! I think she was thinking of her father. You can see she tears up at the end, he was her biggest supporter and she really missed him! Fitting it's on her crypt!
0 dislikes. That says a lot.
Queen may you rest easy in peace🙏🏼🕊 I wish I can go back in time and just be there in the environment and just being the ambience of her presence✨
Her look down before the beginning of her singing…
Through the years,
I'll take my place beside you,
Smiling through the years.
Through the years,
I'll keep my place beside you;
Smiling through your tears.
I'll be near,
No matter when or where;
Remember,
What is mine,
I'll always share
Through the night,
I'll be a star to guide you
Shining Bright,
Though a cloud may come and hide you.
Through the years,
till love is gone
and time first disappears
I'll come to you
Smiling through the years....
