This was Amitabhs return attempt to Bollywood to the the #1 after his several flops in mid 1980s for several years between 1984 and 1990 (practically every movie flopped except Shahenshah in 1988)
Toofan, Ganga Jamuna Saraswati and Jaadugar iirc around 1989 but they all massively flopped to the point everyone thought Amitabh was done. But then came Agneepath and rest is history as Amitabh had string of hits again from Hum, Khuda Gawah etc. He still had flops too but people saw that Amitabh was here to stay.
Then his ABCL lawsuit bankrupting him and then Kaun Banega Millionaire to other movies in early 2000s and he's a Phoenix now. Keeps rising from his own ashes. Today, he's still a legend and while son has been a doofus always, something magical about Amitabh has him become legendary. He used to be my favorite actor as a kid and now I still see his movie decades later. Dude is simply something else and has had the career of like 5 people. Unbelievable aura around him and life.

Its better to know the facts before saying something. Shahenshah was hit & second highest grossing movie in 1988. It shattered all records of advance booking. In a theatre in Delhi, 20000 people gathered for first show. Khuda Gawah was 3rd highest grossing movie in 1992.

Even bollywood hungama calls it a semi hit, as fas as Khuda Gawah is concerned, it calls it average.
I am a great fan of Amitabh but these films are not in the same league as Coolie, Sharabi, Namak Haram, Inquilab, Mard etc where it just bulldozed its way through.

In your earlier comment, you called both the movies as flop. Now you are saying semi-hit/average etc. You are contradicting yourself. As for reviews or verdicts by different news reporters/papers, everyone ha his own opinion. But the fact is, both the movies have earned at least 3 to 4 times the budget. So both are hit.
We were kids those days. Aj bhi bachchan k kuch scene jahan me hai. Jaise ki shahenshah ki entry. It was craze that time. Fir tuffan ka entries in storm. Jadugar was also a flop movie but we loved it as a kids. bachchan was our Krish those days. Aur ha Ajooba bhi sahi movie thi for 90s kids.

Mahesh Anand always had a great sense of humor inspite of his macho looks he had displayed great ease with comedy throughout his career as illustrated in this scene from the movie toofan. Mahesh once shared an interesting story to one of his friend about the shooting of this scene. In those days he was working 2 - 3 shifts daily, sometimes barely sleeping between shots. He was usually came to the set on time but during the shooting of this scene he came to the set later than expected. Big B apparently teased him affectionately for showing up after him. The crew even played a prank on him.
