- We're back with Back in the Studio!
This time we're checking out 2 of Donny's finest drum computers, and his newfound use of acoustic drums in his recordings. Please enjoy yourself!
USA/Canada - be sure to catch Donny live with his band this Feb/March
You can grab all of Donny's albums, merch and show dates at donnybenet.com
Filmed and Directed by Tim Harland
This is what happens when you put all your points into charisma and creativity.
Donny is definitely running a min-max build and I love it.
😂😂😂😂😂
A man with a bald pate mullet and a mustache is scoring style points. Maybe not of the preferred kind but scoring nonetheless lol
😂 👍🏽
I just found donny a week ago, 7 days later ive heard every song he wrote and about everything else. I play in a punk ska band, but this is refreshing
This is beautiful Donny. Of course it helps having legendary drum machines, but being able to bring the magic out of them is what makes your music special. Really classy drum playing too! I definitely hear the Gadd!
I can't wait for some new tunes. Bring on the heat!
Looking sharp Donny. Cracking setup there.
You're definitely the rightful custodian because you know to call it the LinnDrum and not the LM-2. 😜
It's the _other_ synth pop maestro!
Your content is GOLD. Keep it coming. The world needs more of THE DON!
I work at the Crocodile cafe in Seattle, this amazing guy is going to perform there on the 14th of March, I took the night off so I can fully appreciate and enjoy the show,
Huge fan now💯💯💯💯💯
I'll see you there! Loved the solo show last year. Cant wait for the full band next week!
Saw you and your brothers in Dallas last Friday. Your brother is indeed a great drummer with an excellent sounding kit. He made the entire show look effortless.
"it's important to please yourself" Thanks, Don!
Thanks for being vulnerable and sharing your journey back to the set! How did you mic it for this video? Is it just overheads? If so it sounds incredible!
I never knew that Carl Sagan and Bob Ross had a son
Always a treat taking a trip into Donny’s studio
Le Piano - like others said, awesome EP!!! In regards to drums - I never thought that you can play drums that good! I always thought that the bass and synth/drum-machine is your thing, but damn, drums as a other weapon of your musical armamend, your're just epic! Waiting to hear your new sounds! Regards from Poland!
Wait. The band you have on this current tour are you real life brothers? San Antonio show was amazing.
Yes they are! Dan Waples on sax and James Waples on drums. I went to the show in Washington DC on Tuesday night and they were all amazing!
Le Piano was fantastic! ❤ I loved, that all songs were instrumentals…in so many variations.
OK that's it I'm going to ebay to search for drum machines and probably not find anything good or affordable and then go and do something else
cant wait. gonna steal all your beats so you hire me as the drummer next tour
nvm you're a better drummer than I am. shit
As a huge prince fan this was amazing! Your a cool dude Donny 😎👍
Donny hit us with something nice and fresh!
Don't you dare stop making music Donny, keep at it!
Amazing list of inspiring drummers… just needs Bernard ‘pretty’ Purdie 😊
Your drumming groove is killer!
Love the Harvey Mason namecheck. He's the best.
stumbled upon you randomly and your groove is sticky and insane mate
I'm pretty sure Donny can improvise an entire song from scratch in a live show ! Just like Marc Rebillet
You make HAPPYness. Bless you for taking the time to share this. Much love ✌️
JESUS. Only 525 Linn LM-1's were made. It's wild that you have one.
According to some, the LinnDrum sounds were sampled from real drums played specifically for the machine by Los Angeles drummer Art Wood, a friend of Linn, who played with Linn and musicians including Peter Frampton, Gary Wright, Cher, Tina Turner, Bette Midler and James Brown.
The drum samples are not by Steve Gadd as some people think!
Greetings from Germany
Donny, I’m commenting on RUclips for you. That’s it, it’s beautiful. Jupiter, pesto, probably basketball, snare after, but that’s cool, a little básil, and of course some high hats, I think it sounds great, kielbasa, soft kielbasa, keep it simple, add a kick. Number one. Beef it up a bit. And of course
They used to call Gin, panty remover. Now that's what they call Donny Benet albums!
The way you make the beat on that first drum machine is enthralling. Very nonchalant, but there is a lot of skill behind it.
Everything She Wants by Wham… that’s what I hear from the drum machine
why are you the best Donny for ever
I've only just discovered you recently, but I'm sure glad I did! I think I'm going to have to see you live when you hit the UK.
And I am deeply envious of the fact you have both the LM-1 AND the Linndrum!
My only question is when will Donny release a complete, 12 volume instructional series on vhs?
I love your last album. I've been spreading the word in Argentina. You'll soon become a celebrity here also Donny
Getting strong Bernard Purdie vibes out of your playing
A vid with your musical influences, please!
You are having way too much fun with the Linn. I love it! I’m looking forward to grooving to your latest creations.
Donny I pre ordered your album via Amazon and it :(. Super sad
"When Doves Cry", and "Erotic City", are fantastic, for the programed percussion, and were used, to great impact.
Have you heard Prince, just exploring ideas on piano, during rehearsals? It's so inspiring. We lament the passing, of Prince Rogers Nelson, but his genius lives on, through the art he left behind. May his continuing journey, be a blessed one.
I was today old when I learnt Princes sound was from a machine
Holy cow, Donny, is that an LM-1? Jealoussss
Throw away that LinnDrum. You have the DonnyDrum.
Is there anything this man can’t do! 👑
he play the synthh
he play the drumm
but most of all
on bass he strumm
@donnybenet when are you coming back to the UK?
donny please make more 80s your a fricking legend
We're coming to see you on Sunday in MTL!!! So excited to see you live! XOXOXO
why can't they re-release a new version of the linn? it's well overdue
Sooo tasty, always loved the deep grooves of your songs!
The "we don't deserve dogs" meme should be "we don't deserve Donny"
I'm in the same boat as Donny, I always dabbled with drums but didn't start to take them seriously until the covid lockdown. I used my stimulus money to buy myself a Roland TD-11 and have been having a blast ever since.
thank you! is the model in the video still for hire?
Also: for some reason, I can somehow smell that room and it smells amazing.
Donny all day
I just saw Donny, his brothers and Well Well Well in Boston. My girlfriend and I had an amazing time! Thank you Mr. Experience! 🎉🎉🎉
That first beat has some really good groove man.
Just saw you live last night in Montreal! Had a blast! Thank you so much for coming to my hometown. I can't wait to see you again!
would LOVE to see more content on your Linn/LM machines. I can't believe you have both!
Your brother's cymbals sound great. Love the work!
How much is an lm-1 worth today?
That's some groove you got there, mofo!
i am the worlds biggest donny fan
What an enjoyable man.
I love these videos so much. Fascinating piece of history you have there... who owned it previously indeed. Thanks for this!
Donnie, you fucking beast!
Other Gunshot.
fuckin talent like whoa
A few Gadd-isms there mate, V nice
Please do a feature on the ARP 2600 😆
Why do I feel like a Donny Benet x Delicate Steve collab would blow the fucken world away.
Delicate Steve? I like it.
@@wigglyworm1203 should check him out, it's pretty relaxing. 😄
Donny B and the velvet glove
YOU'RE RAD DONNY BENET
I want to be Donny
who brings the funk
That ride does sound great. Good job lil bro Benet
I already love this video
You're as good as Pug now! His cymbals sound thin and slowly manufactured. The most difficult, in my opinion, is to play buzz rolls starting from L R L R L R triplets on the snare drum. I managed to play them a few months ago 🥁🪘🥁👌
Boca Juniors in the drums!
See you tonight Donny ❤
fuck i love you donny
7:10 I feel the same way about my body
A man of many talents!
Austin matthews !
SO DAMN FUNKY!
Nice rig run down.
I love those handmade cymbals.
You gotta come down and play the Southeastern United States...specifically Asheville, NC. You would KILL there!!! Myself and a lot of people would love to see you!!!
Duuude! That's totally also *my* plan for this year! Getting back into drumming after not having done it for a couple of decades and *also* in favour of drum machines and sequencers, along with bass and guitar! 😀 Good on ya, and your drumming is superb! 🤩👍 Great Yamaha kit, too! 😊 Cheers from NZ! 😀 PS: Ooh! Is that an ARP2600 in the back? 😃
Donny, please come to Berlin, Germany sometime. In terms of CO₂ footprint, it's much more environmentally friendly to have you and the band come here instead of the crowd coming to the USA or Canada. Looking forward to Mr. Experience!
Thanks so much Donny! Loved seeing you in Philadelphia 2 nights ago! You rocked just like I knew you would. Your tutorial videos are the best and you came out with one RIGHT after I thanked you for them. Thanks so much for being a champ and taking some pictures with my wife. You made some funny faces as well! We will never forget that moment, Donny, you're the best. Thanks so much!
love it !! Keep on rocking Brother !!
Your younger brother- heard about him through an Aussie that I landed a job with in South Korea - Luke Doyle - who said he knew you boys as brilliant musos. Anyway it was funny to me, as i was just shlwing him A national treasure he might have not known after being in Korea for 15 years - national treasure being Donny Benet!
I had no idea Prince used the LM1 Donny! I’m diving right back into my old sample library now! X
Donny in the pocket
2:05 classic quotes: "I'm still fairly average, but hey, that's what Beat Detective is for."
Jeff Porcaro my absolute favourite drummer! Aim high Donny reach for those 🤩🤩
"And that's important, to please yourself..." - Donny Benet
Love ur drumming don
The legend! Love these videos!
Nice drumming, very inspiring. Its not about the fancy chops, its about the groove, the timing
