This is one of those movies that I saw bits & pieces of late one night while half asleep, & for years I thought I'd hallucinated this or something lol.
I know I’m like six years too late, but this literally just happened to me. Smoking some good bud and was in and out of sleep while it was on. Caught the name and looked it up.
I saw this trailer on a movie my dad rented from blockbusters, I was about 6 years old and it was the most epic trailer I had ever seen in my short life, for years since I thought I had imagined it because I never heard of it again until I saw it appear on Netflix. Here lays the dilemma; my inner child tells me “this could possibly be the greatest movie of all time”, my adult brain tells me “watching this movie will kill all your little naïve childhood dreams.”
You know what the best part of this movie is? How often can you tell somebody that you just watched a movie about a giant robot with spider legs and a chainsaw penis? It's an awesome conversation to have.
I showed this film to my nephew(9 years old) He think it's much cooler than Pacific Rim))) Personally I love them both equally. p.s We need more cool mech movies.
i was young probably just a teenager when i saw this video at the local video rental ,and i thought the box cover looked pretty good,so i thought i would give it a try. i got laughed at when i rented it but i still liked it. still holds up till this day.
"Im Gonna Kick Your ASS" thats what he says, the last fight in here was so cool, they go to outer space and then back to earth and then carry on fighting it was a true end of battle stuff.
OMG I was looking for this movie for so fucking long. I watched a VHS tape of this a long time ago, and I started doing a hunt of all the things I watched as a child and out of all of them this was the hardest, FUCK YEAH.
Robot Jox was the shit I remember watching this when I was 10 or 11, great stuff, I bought it on DVD recently, its cheesy as hell now, but in away that makes it great still, plus the fx back then were great, plus it started my love for giant robots which rule!!
this movie is so good! MECHWARRIOR FTW!!! wont be long till we have mechs in real combat we already got remote control drones and computer controlled machine gun turrets lets up the anti to some assault chassis... u cant drive tanks over mountains but you can sure as hell jumpjet mechs over them.
You know I have vague memories of such a film, I thought it was just my imagination, but now i see someone else mention it, I know it must be real, will have to go look for it now.
I have a theory: Maybe Robot Jox is set in the future of Pacific Rim where they no longer need the Jaegers to fight the Kaiju (since there aren't any left) and over time they use them to fight each other. MIND=BLOWN.
"Alexander I yield.....I YIELD!!!"*Alexander "hahahaha footstomp" 'ACHILLES!!! I Already KEEL U RITE HERE" Just two of the very quoteable lines from this movie its cheesy now days, but like army darkness its become a cult hit for mech/robot fans, if you dont take it seriously (who would take giant robots seriously?) then its quite an enjoyable movie, either way I loved it.
not to mention there's zero giant monsters in Robot Jox :P but still...I did think of it (much more fondly than PR) when I saw the Pacific Rim trailer.
They definitely need to recreate this movie or at least give Mechwarrior a chance to tell its story in the big screens cus that would be a blockbuster!
Certain elements in Pacific Rim were drawn from Robot Jox, yes, but the new movie is largely based on TV series such as Kamen Rider and Super Sentai, which feature kaiju. Also, Robot Jox was only robot vs. robot fighting, not robot vs. monsters.
So THIS is where G Gundam got its inspiration. (remember both G Gundam and Robot Jox feature super atheletes who pilot mechs and get into fights to determine the supremacy of each nation. However G Gundam came out later than Robot Jox did)
Pacific Rim feels like a mix of Robot Jox ( the giant robots and how they are controlled), a Godzilla movie (the giant monsters) and Super Robot Mach Baron (giant robots fighting giant robots/monsters which were sent by aliens who have thei base underwater). The scene were Otachi and Gypsy Danger fly to space feel like direct references to the space fight scenes from Robot Jox and Gamera Guardian Of The Universe.
Why is everyone stating RJ and PR are rip offs, just cause it has Mechs does not make it a rip off, it is more like inspiration. It is like saying He-Man is a rip off of Robin Hood just because they both use swords.
I don't know, but is 'goofy' a fair characterization? Is all science fiction goofy? I've seen some real crap on the sci fi channel, this was pretty good. I rented this, and my son, who was five at the time, and I, had a great time watching it. He referenced it in conversations for years afterward. Dude, It was entertaining. I mean, what else do you want from a sci-fi movie? We don't really have giant robot fighting machines. Thanks for posting it, though. I had forgotten all about this flick.
@travisbrummett Mobile Suit Gundam (AKA Gundam 0079): 1979 Robot Jox: 1990 Unless you're suggesting Tomino (creator of Gundam) had time-traveling technology back in 1979.
The reason why both of these movies are so great is because they appeal to that little kid inside of us... I mean come on, giant robots fighting giant monsters! its a kid's dream come true and with all those new effects... well they had me there, I don't care what the plot of pacific rim or robot jox is, what's important is giant robots, giant monsters (in the case of pcific rim) biff whack and kapow!
This is one of those movies that I saw bits & pieces of late one night while half asleep, & for years I thought I'd hallucinated this or something lol.
chris green Philly Honestly, that film is that terrible. And not the good terrible either.
chris green Philly good god I went to the movies to see this... I did not remember the crappy stopmotion and chroma key
I know I’m like six years too late, but this literally just happened to me. Smoking some good bud and was in and out of sleep while it was on. Caught the name and looked it up.
Duuuuuude I've been trying to find out what this movie was called for years! Thank you!
I love this movie. The old-school, stop motion robot effects were very well done. They don't make'em like this anymore!
This was my favorite movie as a kid. The memories :')
I'm glad that my childhood was full of pure gold movies.
This movie kicked so much ass!
thank you for this video. i knew this movie existed, but the memory was so vague. robot jox. so satisfying.
Jordan Miedema it is, until you watch it again.
Wow! The memories. What an awesome movie. I cant believe that there hasn't been a remake already.

MY FAVORITE MOVIE OF CHILDHOOD
One of, if not the best giant mech robot movie ever made.
Theres something about massive stop motion robots that just makes me feel all warm inside :D this movie looks pretty awesome
How many Oscars did this classic win? I hope it didn't get robbed of the Award for Best Picture of ALL TIME cuz it damn well deserved it!
Best movie in all of human era ever
The greatest giant robots movie ever is robot jox they should do a remake of robot jox
I showed this film to my nephew(9 years old) He think it's much cooler than Pacific Rim))) Personally I love them both equally. p.s We need more cool mech movies.
Why the hell wasn't this ever aired in the Netherlands. GODDAMNIT!
I used to love this movie when I was a kid.
i was young probably just a teenager when i saw this video at the local video rental ,and i thought the box cover looked pretty good,so i thought i would give it a try. i got laughed at when i rented it but i still liked it. still holds up till this day.
hmm wonder if Pacific Rim got any ideas from this movie! Loved this when I was a kid, woo!
+Jazzer caster They all got ideas from Gundam - transformers too.
+Swarovski Memories um. The Kaiju and Mecha movies existed long before the 1980s.
Loved this movie when I was little. Watched it recently and mainly just find it laughable but I still love it.
They really should actually re-make this one...
West Coast Beer Geek I believe it's called "Pacific Rim", they just added a bunch of new stuffs
now the robots need to fight each other, maybe Pacific Rim 2?
@@westcoastbeergeek7154 This comment has aged well. Good job!
One of my favorite movies as a kid!
Mine to for some odd reason!
These 20th century movie trailer are so cheesy I love it. It has the iconic voice narrator
Boy I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought of Robot Jox when I saw that trailer.
"Im Gonna Kick Your ASS" thats what he says, the last fight in here was so cool, they go to outer space and then back to earth and then carry on fighting it was a true end of battle stuff.
must of watched this movie a 100 times when it came out, I would rent it so often at the video store, they stopped charging me lol.
I seeing the movie right now, damn! its become my favorite movie >O
classy movie, very oldschool - if you like Battletech etc. you're gonna have a field day with this one :P
True, everything from Gundam to Mech Warrior. It's(Robots) been a diverse game and fiction genre for quite some time now...
Robot Jox was inspired initially by the Transformers toyline. The exact idea was "Let's do that for real."
OMG I was looking for this movie for so fucking long. I watched a VHS tape of this a long time ago, and I started doing a hunt of all the things I watched as a child and out of all of them this was the hardest, FUCK YEAH.

Core memory unlocked here 😃
This was our pacific rim back in the days😆
When I was 16, I paid money to see this in the theater.
That look awesome
the 80's make great movies
This looks better than pacific rim
This actually looks pretty cool, i should rent this.
You know I have vague memories of such a film, I thought it was just my imagination, but now i see someone else mention it, I know it must be real, will have to go look for it now.
Pacific Rim trailer drove me here. I remember thinking when this first came out...."The future."
true that. soon as i saw that pacific rim trailer, i immediately thought of robot jox. need a remake ASAP.
Mechs, you love em. Don't deny it
Great stuff!
Yeah this was the start of my mecha love!! I've been looking to get a copy of this full movie somewhere. The search continues...
awwwww reminds me of the old days!! ne one else seen 'crash and burn' and 'arena'???
0:24 In the Pacific Rim trailer, it shows one of the Jaeger pilots make this very same gesture.
I have a theory: Maybe Robot Jox is set in the future of Pacific Rim where they no longer need the Jaegers to fight the Kaiju (since there aren't any left) and over time they use them to fight each other. MIND=BLOWN.
gonnna find this one and watch it for sure, was awesome the first time I saw it!
When I saw trailer for pacific rim, I instantly thought of this movie, it even has the punch fist into hand scene!
Thanks for bringing me here, /f/.
Best Mech movie ever!@# nothing will ever top it unless Uwe Boll partners with M. Night Shyamalan to remake Robot Jox!
-grin-
0:37 I'm sorry sir could you repeat that I couldn't quite hear you over that explosion
LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!! :D
"Alexander I yield.....I YIELD!!!"*Alexander "hahahaha footstomp"

loved it. Man...1990 awesome
brilliant movie back in the day.
not to mention there's zero giant monsters in Robot Jox :P
but still...I did think of it (much more fondly than PR) when I saw the Pacific Rim trailer.
I actually thought of this movie when Reel Steel came out. Thought of Voltron when I saw Pacific Rim.
with this film i fall in love of mecha!!! 1992!!!
They definitely need to recreate this movie or at least give Mechwarrior a chance to tell its story in the big screens cus that would be a blockbuster!
They made Pacific Rim. We need Robot Jox remake ;3
I wish they would show this on the EL REY NETWORK!!!
Certain elements in Pacific Rim were drawn from Robot Jox, yes, but the new movie is largely based on TV series such as Kamen Rider and Super Sentai, which feature kaiju. Also, Robot Jox was only robot vs. robot fighting, not robot vs. monsters.
this was my movie when I was a kid
I loved this when i was a kid, and like this even now (im 23). Anyone knows more movies like this? Old ones? ;>
>that epic movie trailer voice over
I miss that guy
I think the director of PR is a fan of EVA. You know robots, vs monsters.
Robot Jox - The Power Ranger of the 90's
the soundtrack in this trailer is better than the one in the actual movie
YOU TOUCHED ME!!!
wow the guy who announces these movies has been around for awhile.
This movie is epic!
i need to buy this...on vhs no less.
Omg! Nice movie!
EDGAR FROESE OF "TANGERINE DREAM" PERFORMS THIS SOUNDTRACK.
So THIS is where G Gundam got its inspiration. (remember both G Gundam and Robot Jox feature super atheletes who pilot mechs and get into fights to determine the supremacy of each nation. However G Gundam came out later than Robot Jox did)

@uriel30 Indeed. I have a lot of great memories of some great B-movies back between 1990 and 1993. This was definitely near the top of the list!
Awesome movie.
It would be awesome if the Flophouse reviewed Robot Jox
yeah he was. he was inspired entirely by japanese animation and old monster movies he saw as a child
Well, Guillermo stated that he took cues from an anime of his time, Tetsujin 28-go.
@SmokingSpoon respect for mentioning chrono trigger. Good game that.
Ohhh the memories!
I still love it now when I am 20

Mobile Suit Gundam (AKA Gundam 0079): 1979
Robot Jox: 1990
Unless you're suggesting Tomino (creator of Gundam) had time-traveling technology back in 1979.
Oh yes good old Robot Jox.
That awkward moment when you realize that Pacific rim is just a fancy modern clone of this movie
Awesome movies are awesome, regardless of the time we live in.
The reason why both of these movies are so great is because they appeal to that little kid inside of us... True! XD
That could have been an homage to RJ; maybe Del Toro is a fan of the movie.
I loved this movie as a kid. Alexander and his DICKSAW kicked ass.
@JMDNelson Not sure, but I do know that Jeffrey Combs (Dr. West) is in the movie as a civilian spectator during the first fight.
A rotary saw cock-why Real Steel will never be as cool as this movie.
Trailer guy sounds like he is promoting it for straight to tv movie.
I think Michael Bay made a couple of movies with big fighting robots in, can't think what they were called right now though =S
So... Pacific Rim from the 80s!
this is 1990
@@TheZombieCurryKid1989, 1990, same difference.
