I wish Joe would spend more time reuniting with The James Gang than with The Eagles. It might not be as financially lucrative but it would rock 1,000 times more.
I was happy Joe got to experience great success with the Eagles but it mellowed and countryfied him too much for my taste . THE JAMES GANG ROCKS !! Long live Joe .....
8/29/1971 James Gang @ the Ohio State Fair. My 1st rock concert and I've been a huge Joe Walsh fan ever since. That show was essentially the same setlist as "Live From Carnegie Hall" and set the compass for my taste in rock n roll. God bless Joe Walsh😇
Dude! Please- Wake up or go to sleep. The Eagles are all testosterone. 100 percent man, No sissies in that band. Joe just brought in another mother load of testosterone. I can't even handle the Eagles hotness. And Don and Glenn are perfect in every way. Don Felder was among the rocking hottest guitarists (that took amazing testosterone) very special. If you really believe the Eagles weren't super manly, you might need a few shots of what really builds testosterone, yourself as you obviously don't get what makes the best music there ever will be.
I'm not quite sure about the "Best Band Ever" designation, but James Gang is certainly a worthy contender for the moniker. We caught them live at UTK WAY Back In The Day, and were not disappointed. I am of the considered opinion that Joe Walsh is as good as anyone on guitar (and he's no slouch on keyboards), with the possible exception of Hendrix. As a fellow (albeit, former) ham radio geek, I find it satisfying that proficiency at music and Morse Code have a correlation.
Good to see this great bunch of old farts playing. You can't beat Jimi Fox on the drums...he still has it, so does Joe. Awesome post! I used to see them in Sheffiled Ohio at pool just about every week-end as a teen, also at a place called Holibaloo in North Ridgeville (not sure of spelling on that) Love the James Gang!
My all time dream concert since 3rd grade in the early 70s has been to see Joe Walsh & the James Gang livethanks for sharing Brother! At the Hell Freezes Over tour the crowd went truly berserk when he did several originals half way through the show. Glenn Frey had fun introducing him too just really hamming it up! Dark, spot light on Joe, drum roll: "Ladies & Gentleman! Boys'n girls of all ages! The master of disaster-the master of the stratocaster! SMOKING-JOE-WALSH! Cue the frenzy! Too fun!
Joe has shown in the past year he can do just as well with the Eagles or without. His solo tour did great and his first solo album in 20 years did VERY, VERY well on the charts. I think people on here need to check out Joes bio, his "Analog Man" CD, J.W. on Guitar Center Sessions & his solo concert clips on RUclips before saying Joe Walsh never wrote any songs and needs the Eagles to be able to perform. Love this Vid.
Almost 30 years ago and Joe Walsh and Jim Fox were beginning to look old back then. That would put them both in their 70s now and I'd be willing to venture they both could still kick ass on stage for a couple sets in concert. Dale Peters (bass) always looked much younger than Fox or Walsh, and while he wasn't their original commercial version bass player (that would be Tom Kriss) was-IMO-the best fit. I saw the Fox/Walsh/Kriss version many times as well as Joe's first commercial band venture-The Measles-back in late 1960s Kent, Ohio.
You're right the hell on Wayne. Totally different kind of sound. I'm a huge Eagles fan. Plus they saved his life literally when they started their reunion tour. He clearly gives them credit for making him seek help or he couldn't come back. Way to go Mr Elliott.
How many musicians have had a successful solo career and been successful with two bands as well? Not to mention all the other musicians he wrote songs with or played guitar for? Joe is incredible and is still down to earth and a great guy.
I saw Joe Walsh at the Beacon and the Ritz in NYC in the late 80's. I met him before each show being at the right place at the right time upon his arrival. He was cool and gracious both times before heading in to rock-out the place. And for those who didn't know, he talked Jimmy Page into buying his Les Paul from him, which became Page's now infamous Guitar.
My sentiments exactly Bruce,Joe has had a great career and is equally regarded as an Eagle and as a solo artist. He buys into what the Eagles do and at the same time can strut his own stuff.I like all of the stuff Joe plays but to say one is better is like comparing apples and oranges, they're two different fruit.I think Joe would take offense at some of these comments here, but that's just my opinion,I'm sure he at least put a few things in perspective.
@tripjet999 I stand corrected. But, Chuck gets the credit, not Jeff, was my point, I guess. Thanks for the correction. I have a copy of this thing, somewhere. I have about 2000 old 45's and a few hundred LP's.
@gibsongold1970 Saw them in Boston in the early 70's ( Live @ Carnegy Hall - period ) . 3 men making that "full" of a sound. Joe doing keyboards and guitar. The JAM in the middle of STOP was in the same HIGH ALTITUDE as Clapton,Bruce,&Baker on the live version of CROSSROADS ! Then TEND MY GARDEN floated you away. WOW.Joe is "in" my playing even now I have a L/H 1994 Gibson LesPaul Standard and a nice little Mesa Boogie. Thanks Joe !!!
I have been a big James gang/Joe Walsh fan since the early 70s. I watched Joe in the beginning of the Video, just before launching into Funk 49, he makes the sign of the cross. Maybe he's a closet Catholic? Anyway, he makes the best rock with a Les Paul ever. Hard rock without being cheesy heavy metal.
What an odd remark. "Closet Catholic". Lol. So in your mind he either needs to be out in front pushing his faith to not be your ridiculously labled "Closet Catholic" or hiding in the shadows secretly crossing himself means he is a "Closet Catholic". He did neither. Something tells me Walsh is not the type who feels the need to hide much of anything. Apparently in your mind Catholicism is something to be concealed. I sense a newly crafted appellation may apply to you- "Woke Bigot"
I mostly agree Brother-esp. about James Gang! But I saw a great interview with Henley, he was very blunt & saying that it was 100% Frey cutting Felder loose-which was too bad since IMO Walsh/Felder were the best guitar duo among many great ones rock has produced! Anyway Henley says the Eagles name is fully in Frey's name & he has the last word on all business decisions. Peace out!
The Eagles are legends upto Hotel California. Ask any Walsh fan and they will tell you that Joe wasted his career with the Eagles. He was at his best with the James Gang and Barnstorm.
Yeah the eagles were O.K........but the James Gang were 1960's Rockn' roll legends.....that funk 49 riff is right up there with purple haze, blackdog, or brown sugar.
I sat in one time with them and "I" was a bit too funky. I was playing more contemporary stuff at the time. Everyone was shocked (Cleveland players) when he was invited to join the Eagles. We were like "HUH" ...HUH??" the Eagles? Joe was noted for doing whatever he wanted playing-wise on stage. The Eagles were noted for being what's called a "Note 4 Note" as recorded band, still are!! To this day, I can't believe it was a match made in rock heaven! Stranger things have happened I guess...JV
Interesting to hear them doing Jeff Beck's 'Jeff's Boogie' from his Yardbirds' days. Stevie Ray Vaughan was another who grew up playing that tune, and eventually got to play it with Jeff when they toured together.
I played the Hullabaloo's and the Agora Circut the same time Joe and the boys were playing. They used to do a lot of gigs with a band called "I Don't Care" I still hate that bads' sound guy. Gave us NO MONITORS!!!!!!! NONE. OUR sound guy went and talked to the Gangs' sound guy and then threatened him (the other sound guy) to turn on the monitors or he was going to dance on his face. Joe was always an OK guy, kind of spaced but these gigs weren't taped so no biggie at the time. James Gang was OK
For those clowns here running down the Eagles, you must remember that Walsh wanted to join the Eagles. He played with them heaps prior to joining. His contribution led to what many regard as the greatest guitar solo of all time(Hotel California)Lets talk facts, nothing this band did will ever top Hotel California. Obviously a hard pill to swallow for some here judging by their comments but it is no less true.
That bass line is INfuckingCredible!!!!1
+Tom Smith Bugsy Peters ROCKS!
I wish Joe would spend more time reuniting with The James Gang than with The Eagles. It might not be as financially lucrative but it would rock 1,000 times more.
You said it, brother and I agreed to the power of 10!
Thats a fellow engineer reply if i ever saw one lol!
And i agree to the power of 10
I was happy Joe got to experience great success with the Eagles but it mellowed and countryfied him too much for my taste . THE JAMES GANG ROCKS !! Long live Joe .....
Absolutely! It would've been soooo much better.
I was there too...
@@dennis-ul5ht Damn!!! My first live concert as well!!! I was a sophmore in highschool.
WOW!!!!...that bass is way out front in the mix!!!!!..That guy was a MONSTER bassist!!!!!
And still is.
He may have been a monster but he had very little taste. I know he knows where the volume control is.
Shavian1 he is playing what he recorded on the original. It fits the three piece format. Listen again....
Might it be the location of the microphone for the video?
Yes. I almost forgot about this one. I was on the local crew and on on stage. I handed Dale his bass. Wow
Terry Hatcher Dale's bass is sounding AWESOME here!!!!!!!!!
Believe it or not, Dale is my great uncle, thank you for handing him his bass.
Oh my god in heaven---listen to that NASTY BASS!
If it weren't for Joe Walsh, there wouldn't have been one single drop of testosterone in The Eagles.
FUNNY! because it's true...
Before Joe Walsh, if you were at An Eagles concert, you might as well bring a cot and go to sleep. Joe Walsh is the man.
ReinhardtHendrix As we used to say in the '60's "TELL IT"!!!
perfect
I was 2 years-old when these guys came out but I've always loved 'em.
Truly one of the most overlooked rock bands in history.
They weren't overlooked in my house, James Gang was my first big concert in 1970 or 71. I've been a Joe Walsh fan eversince.
overlooked is much more approriate than overrated, right guys??
I'm not quite sure about the "Best Band Ever" designation, but James Gang is certainly a worthy contender for the moniker. We caught them live at UTK WAY Back In The Day, and were not disappointed. As a fellow (albeit, former) ham radio geek, I find it satisfying that proficiency at music and Morse Code have a correlation.
The James Gang and Michael Stanley. You Clevelanders had no idea how good you had it.
Good to see this great bunch of old farts playing. You can't beat Jimi Fox on the drums...he still has it, so does Joe. Awesome post!
I used to see them in Sheffiled Ohio at pool just about every week-end as a teen, also at a place called Holibaloo in North Ridgeville (not sure of spelling on that)
Love the James Gang!
Rick Shaw I could barely hear the drums! Is there any recent recordings with Jimmy Fox on drums....of higher quality? I'd love to see/hear it!
the bass sounds good...great playing!!
OMG that bass. Fucking nails.
That is one monster bass sound!
Thank you for putting me on stage with Joe & the gang (the literal gang!) Among my favorites, riding again!
My all time dream concert since 3rd grade in the early 70s has been to see Joe Walsh & the James Gang livethanks for sharing Brother! redfishradical, come to Columbus, Ohio on November 13, 2022. It is being billed as the last ride for this classic James Gang lineup.
my favorite Walsh record: the primarily acoustic "Barnstorm". Wonderful songs especially "Mother Says"
I kinda agree with 3bar. Joe didn't need to play the Eagles music. The Eagles were good, but Joe's music is way better!
was there..dont remember much though
I saw them live in Phoenix, Az way back in 70 or 71. Like Moon the Loon, I just love Joe Walsh
I can listen to Joe Walsh all day!!
Joe Walsh Rocks, Always.
Joe has shown in the past year he can do just as well with the Eagles or without. His solo tour did great and his first solo album in 20 years did VERY, VERY well on the charts. For me, this was a iong awaited reunion!!! M.O'B
DALE PETERS' bass guitar sound as great as the 1970s. Thank goodness for that classic sound.
love that bass tone
I would like to see Joe reunite The Measles and go back to play The Dome in Kent. The cover charge was 50 cents. Now those were the days my friends.
Almost 30 years ago and Joe Walsh and Jim Fox were beginning to look old back then. That would put them both in their 70s now and I'd be willing to venture they both could still kick ass on stage for a couple sets in concert. Great bass player
This is so much fun saw this tour in Phx and the first thing Joe said wasLOOKS LIKE YOU DIDNT VOTE FOR ME AGAIN. What a gas!
When rumor came out Walsh was an Eagle I called BS. Wrong again. He made em famous.
How many musicians have had a successful solo career and been successful with two bands as well? Not to mention all the other musicians he wrote songs with or played guitar for? Joe is incredible and is still down to earth and a great guy.
Paul McCartney, Ritchie Blackmore, Ozzy Osbourne, George Harrison
trv411 Yes. the list is small!
+trv411
Robert Plant for one.
Zep, Honey Drippers, Solo career, Alison Krauss, Band of Joy..... etc.
sal economos Yes the list is small!
sal economos Eric, for another,5 bands and a solo career.

I have a few vinyls of theirs. they still got it.
That was too cool! thank you for posting!
@funkster007
Jeff's boogie was an instrumental originally titled "Chuck's Boogie" by Chuck Berry, believe it or not!!
Too bad The Glass Harp wasn't there to open for them.
+Charles Seper Glass Harp. Good knowledge.
Charles Seper Phil of the missing finger.
Youngstown's finest...
Thanks Brother, appreciate the response.
@tripjet999
I stand corrected. But, Chuck gets the credit, not Jeff, was my point, I guess. Thanks for the correction. I have a copy of this thing, somewhere. I have about 2000 old 45's and a few hundred LP's.
Check out blank pages by Frank James and peacock alley by Damion angel 2 really fine albums
@gibsongold1970 Saw them in Boston in the early 70's ( Live @ Carnegy Hall - period ) . 3 men making that "full" of a sound. Joe doing keyboards and guitar. Cleveland? Ohio? Yes? Damn RIGHT!
u rock she rocked the gangs still rocking
Yes, we like Joe🎉
I had seen them whenever they played near Detroit in early 70s . A flawless band .
Fucking epic. Joe Walsh is a shining example of what a rock star should be.
I have been a big James gang/Joe Walsh fan since the early 70s. I watched Joe in the beginning of the Video, just before launching into Funk 49, he makes the sign of the cross. Anyway Henley says the Eagles name is fully in Frey's name & he has the last word on all business decisions. Peace out!
Well, RIP FRYE, but Henley didn’t invite Felder back on reunion
Dale Peters brought his modified 50's P-bass, Joe Walsh should've used his old Les Paul standard.
from the james gang to the eagles and a awesome solo lp/cd output one thing stands clear.......joe walsh rocks!!!!!!
talk about jam bands--i saw them 1 night and the show was 2 hours and they played 4 songs
I gotta have MORE COW BELL!!
Bringing back the good times
Knee-high mud boots~!~!
You *ROCK,* Joe......lol
I saw Joe at Nautica in '97. He is the best!
Great to see the James Gang... smile :-)
The Eagles are legends upto Hotel California. Ask any Walsh fan and they will tell you that Joe wasted his career with the Eagles. He was at his best with the James Gang and Barnstorm.
what's really weird is all these people that believe that Joe Walsh was an original member of the Eagles. He was NOT.
Fantastic.
@realitymister
great bass man. i cant use a pick myself!..slightly high in the mix tho!
Now *that's* what I call Take Your Children To Work Day!
super muzika
@EvanQuinn07 GOOD EAR!... Joe notices too, and motions to the stage crew at 2:09 to turn the drums up!...doesn't seem to ever happen tho...
Having a Who version from back in the day(Pete's a big fan)would have been sweet, but at least we have these.
Yeah the eagles were O.K........but the James Gang were 1960's Rockn' roll legends.....that funk 49 riff is right up there with purple haze, blackdog, or brown sugar.
Playing this song on a Strat is like bringing a knife to a gun fight :). Still would have been awesome to see this though!
with his Les Paul.
@3bar you are so right!
joe walsh in a tribe jersey. hell yes!
One of my top 5 fav ,rock on Joe! FRANK JAMES
Cleveland rocks! WMMS rules!
better than ever
I sat in one time with them and "I" was a bit too funky. I was playing more contemporary stuff at the time. Everyone was shocked (Cleveland players) when he was invited to join the Eagles. Damn I'm sure Joe Walsh calls this a nightmarish sound trainwreck
Really Rockin'
Wow, Jeff's Boogie. Sweet!
With a quote from the She's a Woman!
awesome
What about Tom Criss?
Interesting to hear them doing Jeff Beck's 'Jeff's Boogie' from his Yardbirds' days. Stevie Ray Vaughan was another who grew up playing that tune, and eventually got to play it with Jeff when they toured together.
Where is Glenn Schwartz? (original lead guitarist) if HE were there - now THAT would be a reunion!
made me smile....yea!
This is AWESOME !
Bass is too heavy in the mix, but its well worth it to see this video shot from such a cool angle THANKS!!
@blairzel right, no hatchet here...maybe you're thinking Grand Funk...bigass hatchet over there!
OF COURSE NICKS WAS THERE, NOT SO MUCH TO SEE RELATIVES, BUT TO SEE WALSH.
Hard to imagine Joe Walsh as an Eagle~
JW should transmit Asshtonpark on his short wave all over the world.
I played the Hullabaloo's and the Agora Circut the same time Joe and the boys were playing. They used to do a lot of gigs with a band called "I Don't Care" I still hate that bads' sound guy. Very cool one of my fav bands growing up in Indiana. Poor quality video, but It's great anyway..
Joe Walsh just may be the coolest guy in rock 'n roll.
Who are the young dudes playing percussion? Not bad.
This I never Knew existed
I wonder what contest those kids won?
"killer boots man"
-Lloyd Christmas-
hell yeah
Saw them 3 times in Toronto.Maple Leaf Gardens twice and Massey Theater(old one) and it sounded a LOT better than this noise.
The bass player still looks like he is twenty..
oh hell, yeah!
So the James Gang had a reunion, and this is the best video production they could come up with?
