I sure hope Enho can make the necessary adjustments and return to Makuuchi. March was starting to resemble his top division time compressed into one tournament where he was throwing men off easily because they weren’t ready for his style, but adjusted as time went on leaving him looking like he didn’t have answers for more patient opponents who wouldn’t make it easy for him. Keeping his chest free of thrusts is an excellent piece of advice from Chris. Let’s hope Enho and his coaches find a way to train him for that.
How did I find myself here, and boy, am I glad i came. How can you not be inspired by seeing someone so large being hoisted by a smaller fighter. We are very inspired.
I really sympathise with Enho because I weight just 47 kg myself. Well, not only that: I watched his practice videos and he has a lot of stamina and determination. I believe he can return to the top division!
@@mysterymaster180 I’m 43 and weigh 56 kilos. Some of us have high metabolisms. I have even worked out religiously..5 to 6 hours a day. I got to the point that I could lift more than 120 kilos above my head. I can eat everything in your kitchen and the neighbor’s as well.🤣🤣🤣🤣 it SUUUCKS.
@@mikehuff9793 If you're working out 5 to 6 hours a day then you're doing intense cardio which becomes catabolic. Regardless of your metablism speed (which research has shown to only differ marginally outside of disease states) the issue is that you're not eating enough and working out TOO much in the wrong ways. If you want to gain mass the eat more, lift heavier for fewer reps, and plan out recovery times.
Fantastic commentary. Really helpful in how it drew my eye, within the visual chaos, to what was being attempted. Also appreciated the contextual throughline of how some opponents seem to have learned from mistakes made by the previous ones.
It is not surprising when a person is dedicated and does something that they like, it surprises locals and strangers, but it is an example to follow because despite being a sport dominated by very tall people and with a very high weight, this character stands out for his excellent skills I have nothing left to say applause 👏
Enho seems to slow down in the last week of tournaments as wear and tear builds up, meaning he's just a small guy standing in front of bigger rikishi by the end. So if he's going to get a kachikoshi, he needs to get 7-8 wins wins out of his first 10-11 matches.
He is slowly coming back. This shows how much an injury can hinder the ability to use full potential. One day he will make an outstanding coach, and many will benefit from it.
I actually think that a second basho in division 2 will actually do him good. 15 more bouts to fine-tool his sumo before going against the men in division 1. I'm always looking forward to enho's sumo, but I'm really looking forward to his July basho.
I absolutely love his sense of sportsmanship. A guy with honor. Note how he is concerned for his opponent when he throws them out of the ring.. other wrestlers keep going and going almost as a point of just bullying.
I like how this really showed the evolution in gameplay across a series of matches, where they study the technique between rounds and adapt. They all begin using techniques to defend against hip throws specifically because they suddenly know this guy has amazing hip throws, and because of that he will be inclined to use it, so strategies that mitigate the capacity to gain leverage from your opponent become very important.
It's nice to see how sportsmanlike everybody is. Holding on to each other outside the ring to make sure the other doesn't tumble over and gets hurt, too much.
He really needs to gain a good balanced 10-15 kg to help offset and absorb some of the lower quality thrusters. It'll also help him with his pushouts as well. It really won't effect his speed advantage as everyone would still be that much bigger than him.
When he broke out in Makuuchi he himself said that whenever he got on the 100 or heavier his speed just decreased too much. Around 97-98 is his ideal weight, any more than that is just detrimental for his style. He is not Terutsuyoshi or Ura.
In the animal kingdom size is practically the only factor that decides the outcome of a fight. Now in combat sports there are a lot of other factors coming into play, but size is still such an important part. That's why there are weight classes in other sports and why men don't fight women. What enho does is simply remarkable and he is one of the most interesting rikishi in the sport.
It's not true that size is only factor in animal kingdom and if you think that size is the only reason why women don't fight men, then you are clearly ignorant of human anatomy.
I can't help but think just a little more weight, into the Tobizaru level, would just give him that bit more groundedness and still retain his speed. But it looks like he's learning, and let's face it, he's still young enough to go up and down the divisions. Just look at Akiseyama for longevity.
I'm in 2 minds about this, he is just SO small framed for a top division Rikishi, and agility is key to his style. I agree he could really use more weight but not to the point where it slows him him down. I seem to recall from an interview somewhere that he has trouble with eating enough for weight gain.
It is good to see enho embracing his own building strength more instead of being a sort of 2-trick pony in Speed and Skill. Having a more rounded approach and the ability to properly shove opponents around who are too cautious of his wily movements forces those opponents to fall into the tricks his speed and techniques have always allowed him to use. A good example of this more well-rounded wrestling is in the "lift" against akua. I think it's clear to most everyone that enho didn't do all that lifting himself... but in his sideways motion, akua's failed trip and enho's position clearly made him want to jump slightly to regain his balance and sidestep back into facing enho more directly instead of allowing the smaller man to grab his leg and shove him as we had seen in other times... and in doing so, he pushed he more or less unintentionally jumped right as enho began shoving. I look forward to seeing more from Enho and hoping that he continues to improve and find ways around what the upper divison opponents used to deal with him, and as there is never an opponent without weaknesses, hope he finds good ways of minimizing his own while exploiting more of his opponents.
At the end of the day all grappling is the same , I see hip throws single legs , ankle picks and arm drags , it’s just the rule set that makes you use different things
