The video doesn't do it justice. It doesn't even look real when you see it.

That doesn't seem too high for a private tour. Sure, remember seeing Monument Valley in tons of westerns.

I think it just happened that way
If more people had been there it would still be the same price. Good think the money, goes to the tribe

As a member of The Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma, but have mostly Dineh friends and knowledge. I could tell you some stories that outsiders never get to hear. The Truth about Chaco Canyon and the Anasazi and Dineh interactions. I caught this video by accident. So if you've been to Chaco. Just know, what the Parks Dept. tells you. Isn't the truth. A 3rd generation storyteller and medicine man relayed this info. He worked there for awhile and taught in the Navajo schools and wrote some books. He said the Parks Dept. would not let him tell the real history of the place, that he had to "stick to the narrative". Sad really. Although, if you knew the truth. lol. It's not just the cannibalism that took place, but much much deeper and darker. Very Old Testament.
I'm sure you are aware, that the money you spent does help the tribe out. They are not a rich tribe. Gov. keeps denying them fresh water rights and so much more. The average Navajo member gets about $500/mnth. Let's live on that shall we? We can't. They have too, plus whatever else they can scrape in. $200 these days, is really going to help out whoever gets it. Most likely your guide, and their family. They will eat well for awhile. I guess lol. SO thank you.
They do not teach anything about how the country was founded, in most public schools these days. Many have no idea of the misery, death and destruction that took place. Us older folks tho, we all know. History is more interesting when you get older it seems lol. I digress. I'm not trying to make anyone feel bad. That's NOT my intention. It's history. I am lucky, in that our Reservation is open. Anyone can live here. My husband is an Irishman, so there. lol. He has close fam. in N Carolina I believe.
I REALLY REALLY SUPER DUPER appreciate you paying the fee. I would in a heartbeat and will, when I get that way. I appreciate you putting this online!
You are walking on thousands of yrs of indigenous ppls home and if you see piles of liftable stones. Graves of those who came before. They tried to hide them in the troubled times, before and after The Long Walk. (outsiders would dig them up for the scalps to sell) so you have to really look, but there are literally thousands out there. I'm hoping your guide was talkative lol, and didn't hold back info. from you. There is a tendency to establish a narrative for the tourist. I'm guessing tho...you were there for the views, and not so much the history. It's beautiful! Absolutely AMAZING. I still cannot thank you enough. IT WAS WORTH THE MONEY!!! In a months time, you'll never notice the missing $200 lol. But I bet they will still be utilizing that income!

I asked where does the money go, to the tribe. Or the federal government he told me the tribe period I told him then I don't mind at all. I will be glad to pay. He gave us a lot of information and did tell us a lot. Even how They had to haul water in buckets to the few homes that were in monument valley . Having Lakota in my and my wife, having Cherokee Ancestry has made me want to learn the truth and it ugly. I am very aware. Of the raw deal that the real americans got. Especially the government schools
